GiS is good. Infact, a laid off Geologist previously (worked for Schlumberger, Calgary) had to retrain at SAIT by taking the BAPT program. I no longer remember where he works after the BAPT program..
Thanks for the reply, the thing is i plan on going for my masters in Canada and i plan to stay after, I've got a BTech in remote sensing and GIS, now I'm actually undecided about the Msc graduate program i should go for amongst integrated petroleum geosciences, computer science and Geoscience information system, spatial analysis, masters in remote sensing and GIS and the likes. I actually prefer petroleum geosciences but i feel I'll be limited only to the oil and gas industry, and you said the oil and gas industry has not been doing so great past years, GIS is wide you with various fields in the agricultural sector, urban and regional planning, engineering and so on. I'd like you to advise me please.

I do not have an in-depth knowledge of the GIS field. I am just an end user. If I were you, I would go with the bolded.

Yes GIS is wide and important in Canada. I work in the Electrical industry and the application/use of GIS is an important aspect of my job. I use it for route selection, design, environmental screening of project routes, satellite imagery etc.

Nowadays, you can't even call yourself an expert in GIS if your programming/database skills are not on point. Hence, the reason why I will choose the option with computer science over others.

Hello All,

Do you know anyone who's renting a 1-bedroom apartment/flat in Calgary (SW or NW)? Shared accommodation is also being searched for presently.

Please let me know. Thank you!!

Of course. You can check indeed.ca to check out who's hiring. Post covid, libraries would open their doors again.

Thank you so much. Since i have a bachelor's degree in mechanical from Nigeria, would a master's degree from oil and gas engineering still limit me to o&g?
What course did you study?

Hello good people. So I submitted my passport say 1st week in March. This was before the escalation in Ghana and Nigeria. As it stands, there’s no feedback from VFS or IRCC and I can’t even track the passport online. I am so so worried. Is it possible for them not to issue the PR at this stage? Am I just worrying for nothing? Epp me plis grin angry cry cry
Haba! it’s not possible, pls put your mind at ease , i’m sure it’s because of the covid situation.

Why is a petition necessary when IRCC has laid out specific guidelines for COPR holders to follow to indicate their inability to travel because of the pandemic?

This is my Testimony…It can only be God

Timeline (6 months post AOR)
CIC Account created – 20th March 2018
IELTS 5 attempt: LRWS – 8.0,7,7.5,8.5
ECA: WES -BSC and Masters
Score: 464
ITA: 5th September 2018
AOR: 15th October 2018
Biometrics: 14 November 2019
MEP: 9 January 2019
PPR: 10 April 2019
COPR: 25 April 2019
Landed in Canada: 11 June 2019
First Job- 12th August 2019
VO: Ottawa
Single Applicant.

I began to take the Canada hustle serious when senior colleague I really admire immigrated to Australia and Canada.

So, I had to do IELTS and WES simultaneously, registered for WES and I paid the prescribed fee which was to cover both my B.Sc from LASU and Masters from Unilag - I discovered the difference in fee between doing just B,Sc evaluation and both B.Sc and Masters is considerably low- I needed to establish contact in both schools to make the process easy, WES took about 3 months and finally concluded on 30 October, 2017. IELTS ridiculed me for my ignorance and lack of time as a banking professional, I think I wrote this exam about five 5 times, 2 of the times I missed the speaking test and finally here was my LRWS (8, 7, 7.5,8.5), armed with both WES and IELTS I applied and got my ITA on 5th September 2018

Am a bit meticulous, so I had gathered my initial documents even before acing my IELTS, documents gathering was straight forward as I was a single applicant even though I was in a serious relationship to the woman I eventually got married to.

So perhaps the most challenging after POF was my medical as I have a history of TB 13 years ago, after further checks and extra medicals I was cleared in January, 2019, medical cost about #100,000 for me, other process was going by the side, did my biometric in record time.

The Golden mail dropped around 11:30pm on April 10, 2019, I screamed 7 halleluyah and give God the glory, the first thing the next day was to go submit the passport at VFS and I received my COPR within 20days.

I booked my flight through Ethiopian airline, I almost confused Ottawa (YOW) for Toronto (YYZ), thank God for this will have been a major mistake. My flight experience was sweet, I had good in-flight entertainment and overall experience.

So, I arrived in Canada on June 11, 2019 and was welcomed to Canada with little haste, I only brought USD4,000 into Canada and spent USD1,000.00 before getting my first Job to the Glory of God and support of my friend became brother.

I started applying for jobs from Nigeria and I did my first interview on telephone though when I reached Canada the Job was gone but through friend referral, I did Job test same week I arrived in Canada- I had to choose between two(2) offers, yea, LinkedIn helped in Job search and so is personal referral (Personal referral is actually the best and can be established using LinkedIn).

Today is April 18th and I have already spent 10months of great experience in Canada...I needed to share this because I promised God to give this testimony on this platform

IRCC does not suggest a reopening of the application except the COPR holder allows their COPR to expire before contacting them. They have advised that all COPR holders should let them know if they are unable to travel which you should do before the expiry date. If you fail to do so and it expires, then they will reopen your application. It is a case of people ensuring they do what they need to do at the right time.

Congratulations man! May the land continue to favour you.

Your recommendation re:job search is spot on. My partner also got a dream IT job not long after landing in Toronto by doing exactly this - he narrowed down jobs he wanted to apply for, then used his LinkedIn connections to get current employees to refer him internally.

Sp for anyone job hunting, don't just submit online applications, you stand a better chance applying through a referral. Explore and exploit LinkedIn to the max.

I forgot to mention EgyptAir doesn’t serve wine on board like Ethiopian air when I flew with them 2 weeks ago to Dubai. The food on EgyptAir was somewhat better,,, during the second trip my small box which was a hand luggage was checked in. So I picked all three bags at Toronto Pearson Airport.

Landing gist.
I got to Canada on march 8. It has not been easy to put down a landing story, but here I am.
We ( a family of 4) got to the MMIA, Lagos by 2pm on march 7 for a 11pm flight by Air France. We got there that early cos we travelled from another state far from Lagos, and there was no where we could stay.
It was my 1st time traveling so I had no idea of anything. The check in for air France began at 5pm, but before then we met a man who told us he was going to help us with the check in, and truly truly, the man helped us, we were the 1st to be checked, our bags were not weighed and they were not opened but my mum paid the man ( I don't know how much she paid). But the hand luggage were screened, my hand sanitizer was seized.
After few hours, we got into the airplane, it's really a big one, the seat was very comfortable. The inflight entertainment was dope. There were more than enough movies to watch, music, games and so on.
The food was on point. We were served 3 times, I can't really remember all I ate cos it was many. There was joll of rice with chicken, wine, chocolate, muffins, sweet, coke, cheese, and so on. There was free wifi there also. We were on air for about 6 hours. We stopped at Paris.
The airport at Paris is very big, we had to walk for a long time before we got to our boarding gate. We had 8hrs stopover at Paris.
After then, we flew with air France again for like 7hrs to Toronto. The inflight entertainment was dope as usual, the food was really good. There was free WiFi
We got to Toronto Pearson airport at about 5pm. We did self check in, we used a computer, where we were asked if we had been to China in the past 14 days, if we had meat or diary products and so on, the machine took a picture of us also, from there we went to the immigration section where we submitted our copr, we were asked the same question written on the landing papers, we were told to sit, after about 10 mins, the officer gave us back our papers and told us to sign, he took the ones with our passport photograph.
We then went to claim our baggages. We went for our connecting flight to Edmonton. Our flight was with west jet, it was delayed for one hour. The plane was small, there was no inflight entertainment, no WiFi, no blanket, but were served twice, cookies and any drink one wants.
We got to Edmonton international airport about 11 pm, we went to pick our bags and then a family member came to pick us up.

if your hand sanitizer is gel/ liquid and over 100ml it will be seized if in ur hand luggage

Hand sanitizer: You can easily to one yourself

Very slow for now..Slump in oil price and covid pandemic has made O&G very slow.

However hope you know you dont get internship opportunity at Memorial Uni? Experience gotten during internship will later prove highly valuable when you commence job search after graduating..Why not try Sait/Nait/UofA or other schools where you are sure of getting internship opportunities.Cheers

Because of the expenses. I am going for a coursework. Would coursework not expose me more to practicals? MUN is cheaper than the other options.
