It is a decade on since the ill-timed passing of budding indigenous rap sensation, Oladapo Olaitan Olaonipekun, popular by his stage name Dagrin.

In honor of the musical fallen hero on the anniversary of his demise, as have become habitual of his fans and colleagues, they are once again paying tributes and taking to social media to mime their favorite lyrics from the body of work of the self acclaimed ‘Lyrical were’.

However, in lending credence to the commemoration of the departed, Esteemed Media Personality and Publisher of MetroNewsNg, Otunba Femi Davies decided to give love action by paying a courtesy visit to the mother of the late singer, in the shanty suburb of Agbado Crossing area of Lagos.

On the visit, the veteran publisher was accompanied by MetroNewsNg team members, and representatives from Otunba Rotimi Ajanaku Foundation.

The late singers death anniversary coincides with the prevailing covid-19 lockdown in the state, and the visiting team donated food items, and an undisclosed amount of cash gift to the family.

In a statement made public, Otunba Davies describes the reception they received from Dagris’s family as warm.

“10years ago, we lost a promising young talent Dagrin. It was not easy tracking the mother in a suburb called Jankara, located around Agbado crossing, Dagrin’s sibling were there too. The reception was warm,” he said.

The visiting team also leveraged their chanced courtesy call to impart indigent households within the Agbado Crossing environs by giving their host family more relief materials in form of food stuffs to distribute within the community.

“We gave her (Dagrin’s mother) food items to share and a token of our love. It was emotional but worth the trip.

Thanks to those who supported us,” he concluded.

The MetroNews team and her collaborators have been going round different Lagos suburbs to donate relief materials to indigent households within the lockdown.

Some of the communities visited recently were Egbeda, Idimu, Shasha Akowonjo, Ikorodu, Ketu, Ogba and Fagba.

Others were Ojodu Abiodun, Ojuelegba, Oke Popo, Opebi, Lagos Island and Obawole.

Just about when I started liking the guy's musical even though I didn't understand his Yoruba lyrics, following week he died. RIP Dagrin... Kpon kpon kpoooon nnn le nu mi, make una no laugh me oo, na the only thing wey I hear from the chorus of that popular gehtto rap be that.

If Da grin were to be alive today, he'd be among the top 3 Greatest naija rappers of all time.
