But because Akintola and his fellow betrayers couldn't handle Awolowo, they then went and join Nnamdi Azikiwe, Aminu Kano, Tafawa Balewa and others to fight Awolowo.

They succeeded in jailing Awolowo but they paid with their lives. Only Nnamdi Azikiwe lived beyond the betrayal period but his people have continued to pay for it till today.
