Why did the early authors even the British always refer to Yorubaland as West: That is because this is were Yorubaland us situated. Western flankof Nigeria. It does fall in anywhere south.

Even when Nigeria was in their right sense of geography Mid-west was even carved from west and still not south.

There is no justification to show that Yorubaland falls anywhere south but simply west. If early writers and even your father insist it is west, you now want to change it by political rubbish.

The British still saw Nigeria as two regions till they gave Nigeria independence.

The Eastern region, Western region and Northern region were political entities created for political purpose. The entities became the political framework in which Nigeria was governed for years.

Igbos have often claimed there is a South South, South East which is another politically convenient term to show those are the regions in the real southern part of Nigeria but flare up when others remind them that a South west also exist.
