So assuming charges are 10%, you buy a stock, you are charged and when you sell, you are charged 10% bringing your full cycle transaction charges to up to 20%!

This is part of the reason we need more patience unlike our US based counterparts who enjoy fairer brokerage charges.

Well said. Transaction costs are parasitic for frequent traders so people need to avoid frequent trading as much as possible. I think it's more like 1% of transaction value for the Nigerian apps trading US equities?

I actually downloaded the e-dividend mandate form, completed with a passport photograph, first took it to my bank (also GTB) for confirmation of banker's signature before proceeding to Data Max Registrars on the same day. It was because I know emails do not work with most backward Nigerian organisations that made me go in person, and I was proved right. I have been investing in the NSE for over 15 years, so I know how manual and slow the processes can be.

It was at their desk that I was informed that despite all these, I still need to visit my stockbrokers to sign some specimen signatures again, who will then take it to CSCS for another confirmation. Then bring it back. They did not even give me an option of sending by email. There is a big notice in their office that if they do not have your signature in their file, you have to do the above. And when I asked why they don't have my signature on file, I was told that it was because I bought from the secondary market. Is that not where most normal people buy stocks from?

This happened in the 3rd week of March, 2020, just before the lockdown, so it is very recent history. If you noticed, the SEC link was dated 2016. Apparently, the registrars are not following SEC's instruction, and I see it as nothing short of robbing people of their money.

Maybe I will go to SEC and CSCS social media pages to complain, until they enforce their own rules.

I realised some brokers can be very difficult.

I suggest another way that has yielded meaningful results in cases like this:
Gather your papers, scan them and do them an email expressing your displeasure and frustration about how they have handled this issue after so many years.
And then add the straw that breaks their back by copying SEC in your email.
Watch how they hustle to sort your matter out of fear of the regulator.

The answer to your question is very subjective. Every one comes into the market with the aim of 'buying low and selling high' but ofcourse not everyone manages to do this for various, unpredictable reasons. For a start, no one knows how low is low. Your entry price is the sellers exit price. I'd suggest that you need more than this singular strategy if you want to succeed in any market. I cannot tell you which one is 'better', this is always a personal decision that takes into consideration all your circumstances. There is no 'one cap fits all' in the market.

I wont advice anyone to guy Gilead or any vaccine company except for short term... I believe the vaccine will become a political tool.. Moreover we could see over 200 types of vaccine that will saturate the market...

When buying stocks base on value I advice we look into the prices in terms of percentage decrease/increase...So much good stocks to pick from now if you have enough money with you.

Investors don't like been told they won't make money and Also they hate uncertainty.
Despite Apple beating revenue projections for the last quarter, Investors are not happy because apple said they can't tell them what they will make in next quarter.

Amazon said they will spend their last quarter profit of 4bn dollars on fighting covid-19 Amazon is down by 6%. Still a good buy, people are staying home and making orders now.

It's an opportunity to buy some stocks cheap but just know that this coming months, May , June, July won't be a smooth ride.

Be vigilant so you don't lose all your gains. Better to sell with your gains and re buy at a cheaper rate.

Yes, that is what I just did. Copied CSCS, SEC and my stockbroker. Also left message on SEC social media page with all in copy. CSCS reached out to me that they will contact my stockbroker to get the forms signed and sent to registrar after lockdown. All I know is that I will not visit anybody's office again. I will give them a little more time before harassing them further.

Yes , you can invest 10k Naira, just know that the return will be very small. If you make 10%, you will get 1000 naira profit, you just have to be patience to make that 10%.

You will have to download both apps, registered with them and see what they offer and you make your decision on which one you will prefer. I don't use any of them, so I can't tell you their differences.

As a novice, it's generally advisable to buy from the popular big companies that are stable, like apple , Amazon, Google ( Alphabet) etc. When you check the apps you will get more info.

Buying a stock is like buying gold, when the value of gold increase over time, your money will Increase, and vice versa

This just a high level summary, you will need to ask questions and read more on how the stock market operates and how to get the best out of it
