Shebi Fulanis are Nigerians? There are lots of foreigners in Nigeria milking the cow.

I know but Fulani are not indigenous Nigerians, they have no village that is originally theirs. You're right about foreigners invasion into the country. The man complaining is 30 years!. He's still hoping to travel out and make it big in an 'instant' but in reality it might take 5 to 10 years. Somebody that should already be aware of the realities of life anywhere is still talking like a 17 years old teen. When people give reason of light to be their major inspiration to travel out it's funny grin travel cost can be as high as 5 million or more depending on country, isn't it enough to set up a working solar system in a house? whoever wants to travel has my 100% blessing if needed but come up with good reasons so that others can learn a bit from you. Very emotional post from the OP perhaps he's just depressed with the way his life is turning out and directs his entire problems on the country whereas it might be from his village people grin

I'm planning a West African road tour for late 2021 and my research proves what you said about Fulanis not being indigenous Nigerians. My return trip from Senegal will put me in the northern corridor of lower West Africa. Fulanis are all over that area outside Nigeria.

For someone even serious there's no reason to come online and start ranting about leaving Nigeria or how Nigeria is bad. He should just go get a visa and leave already. No one is holding any one back, it's not as if Nigeria is like North Korea where the government forbids people from leaving.

Regarding solar, my 5KVA system cost only N1.5M and I have 24/7 light. Return ticket to USA/Canada alone is more than that.

The reason why I'm very vocal on this threads is that I don't want the ones that are planning to leave to make the ones that are staying, or can't afford to travel, to be dismayed or depressed. Nigeria is good, very good. She's also bad, very bad. But I look for the good in things.

Nigeria problem is simply the people that infested her. If you switch the population of Nigeria with that of California then Nigeria will be better than California under 5 years. And California will be in complete ruin within that 5 years too.

But what do I know. I've put in my tour of duty and just watch the next generation of leaders grin

See this one o. I am the op in question and yes I am 30 years old, and yes I do know the realities of life probably more than you. You see, I never said to make it in an instant, you are just the one mouthing it, and you think I don't know the cost of travel? Maybe you are highly mistaken o as I have travelled abroad severally, so I know all the expenditure and peculiarities involved. Again, stop presuming, I am certainly not depressed or anything, to the contrary, I am in the Nigerian sense living very good, I have a very good paying job, I have my own manageable ride etc but you see, I am not delusional. I can clearly with my own two eyes see that this country is disgusting and disfunctional. You talked about using 5million to setup solar power in my house instead of travelling with it, what then is the use of the government if I will have to provide electricity by myself? Also you thinking as a typical Nigerian will conveniently not think of the rest of the people. If I am able to provide electricity for myself, what about the remaining citizens of this country? you see where the Nigerian mentality is so messed up right? And if you were exposed enough, you will realize that it's not only about electricity. What about health? should I also build a hospital for myself too? what about quality education? what about security? water supply? Maybe I should sink my own borehole right? if I will have to do all these by myself, what then is the benefits of being a Nigerian? and again, if I can afford to provide all these to myself, what about more than 90% of Nigerians that can't afford such? I will live you with this, it's not a matter of how much you will spend to immigrate, or whatever, it's about dignity of life, future prospects for your children, comfort of life and so many more. Nigeria has failed it's citizens woefully

According to Omoyele Sowore, many Nigerians have already
mentally seceded from Nigeria. I agree. I count myself as one of those Nigerians. Mental secession is for self-protection, self-insulation, and self-preservation. We have been in an abusive relationship with Nigeria for far too long, and the emotional and mental toll is weighing us down. If they will not allow physical secession by groups or restructure the country to allow room for justice, equity, meritocracy, and better accountability, then Nigerians have a right, as individuals, to take mental leave of this abusive country.

You've said it all grin when I mentioned to him that he can actually get constant solar for less than a million, he became enraged that I'm a typical selfish Nigerian grin. What stops him from also supplying to other neighboring homes since he's selfless? he said it's government duty, a well traveled man doesn't know that people live OFF grid all over the world to cut cost? if you pick one thing they will counter you and twist your words. Am I paying his ticket money? I just tried to tune his mind a bit, if light is your problem you can get 24/7 if you want pending when you move, that was a reason to call me selfish. He spoke about health care and I laughed, covid 19 is still on going, all the top countries with good health care are simply clueless now. I see what you're trying to do and I commend your effort. Whoever wants to make decisions based on someone ranting online is free to in my opinion. My penny isn't being used to pay their ticket fare grin

In response, I want to pose a few questions to you. I know people live off grid, and I know I too can set up solar power in my house for less than a million naira. My question is why should I have to? And if everyone would have to live off grid, why then do we have a government? Why do we also have a country? The need to live off grid only arises when you actually have a disfunctional country that can't provide those basic services to it's people. And I don't even know why you are only fixated on electricity issues, what about health care? Or have you ever seen anyone who lives off grid when it comes to health? Why not?

Lol i left for Canada last December. My salary at my suit and tie job back in Naij ( i won't call it home) was just under N200k per month.

I just calculated the income i received this month after taxes. Your boy netted N1,700,000 (6,200 CAD). I'm not even doing a professional job. I don't have a boss. I sleep and wake up when i want. I go to work when i want. I can take a month off ( not any time soon tho wink ) and return and still continue making money.

One caveat tho is that i worked every single day to make this. Day and Night. But i enjoy the job so it's nothing to me. Plus making good money is so addicting. I don't anticipate i'll clear this much after tax going forward but i can still net over 1 mill a month if i choose to.

The West is truly the land of opportunity. Dream come true.
Oboy! Na this Canada sure pass.

Just keep an open mind for the future because you’ll get it then when you’re at sunset like me. Many of us are back and some have made very significant investments here that’s paying off handsomely.

This is not to discourage you or anyone from traveling out. It’s not up to me.

My self assigned task on here is to balance out the equation for those that don’t want to or cannot afford to travel out. Nigeria is not all that bad.

I’ve seen both sides of the equation and I can report authoritatively.

If Nigeria can solve two things, electricity and security then you’ll see an influx of returnees and foreigners that’ll be unbelievable.

Nigeria is good... yet you have several distinct advantages over everyone here...

1. You have a US passport and I will venture to say you will NEVER renounce it or give it up. Why not? That passport allows you to leave to any major country whenever, without the indignity of applying for visas, an opportunity not open to others.

2. That passport effectively allows you to be first to be repatriated by the US government if Nigeria ever descends into full chaos. What recourse do others here have?

3. You likely enjoy social security payments constantly. That means regardless of how well your Nigerian investments perform, you will always have a monthly income that far outstrips your cost of living in Nigeria. The others here?

4. Your children are all in the US, enjoying a good government safety net. That reduces your expenses in that regard. Many here still have children to support.

It’s easy to see the good in Nigeria, while clinging to all the benefits of being a US citizen.

I have 10 close friends in the USA, Bossom buddies. 8 of them are living completely off grid. 5 of them are multi millionaires.

The world is getting off grid. I’m off grid in Ibadan.

Healthcare wise, live good, eat good. Register at a private clinic. Do preventative checkups. Don’t drive like a slowpoke or take unnecessary risks. Minimize your exposure. The government can’t take care of everything.

Many people in the USA don’t have health insurance and can’t go to hospital and use emergency room as their primary care.

I've been in the US 15 years and i would never recommend anyone to stay in Nigeria if there is a way to leave. You are "enjoying your own perspective" safe in the knowledge that if anything happens, you can always come back to the US and take advantage of social security and medicare. These are not available to the people you are misleading here.

Your reasons and their reasons for going off grid are two completely different things. Going off grid for them is a choice, a hobby, an interest to go green etc not that the service is not available. I can bet any amount that less than 1% of americans are off grid. You on the other hand went off grid in ibadan because you have no choice. If you didn't, you simply wouldn't have any other options of enjoying 24/7 electricity. In Nigeria, the electricity simply isn't there in this 21st century. by the way, if you can excuse the government failure on electricity by insinuating that we should all go offgrid, as if it is not shameful that citizens of a country will have to resort to off grid methods in order to Meet electricity needs, because to you it seems ok that since obasanjo's time up to this administration, literally billions of dollars have been signed and allocated for power projects yet we still have very dismal electricity supply . that is as good as not being there at all.
If you can defend the government on this, should we also excuse them for failure to provide running water to homes by saying we ought to go off grid by digging our own individual boreholes?
I hope you will agree with me that our security architecture has failed miserably too. By going off grid, we should all start our own armies then?
You have no basis to defend this government and country at all. What the hell do you even benefit from Nigeria, as a Nigerian sef in this 2020? Be honest to yourself. we were all locked down for more than two weeks because of the virus, did you receive a dime from the government to support yourself? yet a senator earns 32million naira a month in this same country. Nigeria really is a laughable case

(If you don't know stuff, you have a choice to ask and be educated on it. I and my friends are "Preppers" and are all off grid as are millions all over the world because of various reasons such as saving the environment, saving money, removing dependency, etc)

(I benefit tremendously. Your definition and mine are obviously different. And this is okay.)

Be honest to yourself. we were all locked down for more than two weeks because of the virus, did you receive a dime from the government to support yourself?

(I don't judge how good a country is based upon temporary hand out. Not every American got a handout. I didn't.)

yet a senator earns 32million naira a month in this same country.

(That does not affect me personally. It doesn't affect a lot of Nigerians who are making things happen. Do you think Dangote fafs around thinking about senatorial salaries?)

Nigeria really is a laughable case

Answers are embedded in the original post in bold. Though we disagree, I have to complement you on getting your points across in an unusual non infantile manner for this thread grin

So you spend the money in naira? That's assuming you make that much.

Sounds like a scammer

I see how you rationalize things.

You filter and silo people that have a differing viewpoints into cutsie little containers like “ignorance”.

Okay got it cool

Petrol at N123.50/125.00 is the cheapest in any country that I’ve driven in. Heck of a fantastic deal.

Petrol sells at 212 naira in the USA

sells at 123 naira here in Nigeria.

And you say it's costlier in the USA with all your exposure and knowledge of economics sir?

300 naira can give you a hair cut in Nigeria

How much can give same in the USA ?

How much is bottled water in the USA and Nigeria?

I have 10 close friends in the USA, Bossom buddies. 8 of them are living completely off grid. 5 of them are multi millionaires.

The world is getting off grid. I’m off grid in Ibadan.

Healthcare wise, live good, eat good. Register at a private clinic. Do preventative checkups. Don’t drive like a slowpoke or take unnecessary risks. Minimize your exposure. The government can’t take care of everything.

Many people in the USA don’t have health insurance and can’t go to hospital and use emergency room as their primary care.

Stop scoffing food cooked with palm oil, stop buying fruits from aboki that stored it in gutter.

is palm oil bad?

I can see that reading for comprehension is not your thing. And I never sold myself to you as anything than EgunMogaji2. Who are you exactly that I need to impress?

For astutes in the thread, here is exactly what I posted:

In my own opinion, yes it’s pretty bad. Based on my own personal and individual research. To live successfully in Nigeria I made a list of must haves and mustn’t haves.

I cook with vegetable oil, but preferably with Canola or Corn oil. I consider myself as my primary care giver, not the government.

Watch the analogy I gave.

It's clear you don't even have a smattering of economics.
Its pure infradig engaging you on that subject as people don't automatically become repositories of knowledge by being old.

I stand by my post. Stand by yours. Petrol is cheaper for me in Nigeria.

By the way, you don’t have the monopoly on using curse words. I’ll just rather stand by and watch you demonstrate your heritage grin
