Osun to prosecute 17 Chinese, traditional chief, 9 locals for illegal mining

17 Chinese nationals, a traditional chief and 9 locals have been arrested by Osun State Joint Task Force (JTF),

They were arrested following a coordinated sting operation around Ilesa and Ife axis of the State.

Speaking on the development, the Deputy Chief of Staff to the State Governor, Abdullahi Binuyo, noted that no responsible government will fold its arms and watch its land being degraded by unauthorised persons.

He noted that aside the economic leakages, the illegal miners had also polluted the Osun River with poisonous metals, thereby making it unsafe for human consumption and irrigation.

Binuyo was, however, quick to add that apart from ensuring that those arrested are prosecuted, they will also be made to pay compensation.

“As part of the government’s economic reforms, solid mineral is a major sector we are looking to explore . For these reforms to work, it has become imperative to stop illegal mining and step up enforcement activities. The result is what we are witnessing today.

“The people you see here neither have genuine mining licences nor are they registered with the government. What they claim to have is Exploration Licences, which does not allow them to mine, the way they are doing. So we will be prosecuting them and make them pay damages.

“Apart from flouting government’s Covid-19 Order, by refusing to stay at home, they have created environmental disaster for us, by poisoning our River which is a major public health concern for us,” Binuyo added.

Earlier, one of those arrested, May Zam, who was the only one that could speak passable English among the Chinese, disclosed that she was not aware they were engaged in illegal mining.

She said she worked for different companies, and she believed they should have mining licences, adding that the current company she works for, which she failed to name, has a Nigerian sponsor.

Well.did.you hear.any other language.. the yourbas are like.the proverbial.ostrich.. despite all this just wait come 2023 their god from ikoyi will bring out his bullion van give them 500 naira and one indomie each and they will start clapping for him again.. dumb and cowardly mofos.. they never learn.. at least the average uneducated igbo youth has trade and self pride .. and so does the Aboki.. at least they push carts, sell tomatoes and swallow their pride to do the dirty jobs most others find disgusting just to earn
a living.. the average uneducated yoruba youth is either a criminal or a criminal in training with only few exceptions who seem to be swimming against a massive tide as thier illetrate cult people will not let them rest. Most of their Men lazy around and wait for their women to feed them .. They have no land to farm.cos their fathers sold everything , they have no industries to work cos their politicians steal seamlessly..and only build empty highrise offices in ikoyi. They have no markets to trade in cos they are too impatient and greedy they will eat their capital and profit and sell their shops to others.. and collect owoile.. the yorubas have an emergency on their hands but like the ostrich they will bury their head in the sand and claim thier house is in order. They will come here and abuse me and claim to know it all ..sad just sad

Wonderful cock and bull story by the Osun state government

So na now day just break for them

For years, various Newspaper publications across Nigeria have exposed the rate of illegal mining going on in Osun state to no avail.

They should tell us the mining companies refused to pay someone somewhere, hence their dilemma.

I wonder what the immigration status of these chinkos are.
I mean do they have legal documents of entry into the country, and in what capacity if they do..
Are they immigrants, refugees, experts, Chinese secret service agents or even fake humans.

these chinese have so raped this country!

they come here mine precious metals and minerals that are very expensive in the international market for free and take it to their country!

government just kept quiet and hide their face and allow this exploitation and impunity to be going on!

go to nasarawa, benue, kaduna. kogi, taraba, bauch and plateau and you will cry for this country!

they go to the inner villages, give their chiefs stipend and still use their youths to carry out these mining for a very cheap pay.

These chinese thieves mine, gold, mica, assorted gem stones, fluoride, rocks and various other products in large quantity and ship it to china - no customs intervention, no questions from ministry of mines and power, no questions from immigration nor any government agency.

these minerals are worth far much more than oil but we just fixate our attention on oil while foreigners are exploiting what should make us very rich as a nation!

This country matter eh! sometimes e dey make person wan cry!

They do.
It's our brothers in the govt that sold the mining right to them.

And they invite their brothers to help out.

It's not only miners.
Go to Abuja and see quarrying companies.

The one in my area was given free to Turkish people by bala Mohammed and the chief is paid every month.
We took them to court and the federal govt have been protecting them since.
People's houses are cracking due to rock blasting.

As the time I knew last, we are seriously making headway as that area no be any how people dey there.
They will pay dumorage before they go.
