Aaronsrod:What?? Riding a bike is not a black or white thing, neither is it a status or wealth thing. Everyone can ride a bike. It is a means of transportation abroad. I can’t believe I had to explain this |

Seun:If you enable larger uploads. Hmm, I don't even know how you are hosting this site? But you will also have to consider storage, which is not cheap. Why not have an algorithm implemented at your backend that resizes the picture to a specific size without degrading the image, and then the frontend can fetch the final result. And the pictures should not be aligned one after the other, it makes it unusable for mobile users, you can create a folder type of handler to hold all pictures and users can decide to click on it to view or ignore. This shouldn't be so hard for you na Oga Seun. Secondly, the security guarding how to post is crap. if you fix this, it will help reduce the scam/spammers on your site. How do you solve this issue? Assign a minimum number of characters to be accepted, it should not be less than 100, this engages your users to write good content and not just gibberish or posting memes. Thirdly, you can actually revamp this site and still maintain this same usability. Finally, please, do no take this thread to the front page. ABEG!! |

Danielhouston:I have lived in Germany now for 6 years now, came for masters, finished and stayed, Germany is not home and not where a migrant should call a home. As a black man in Germany there is a chain they place on the leg already that even the children they born here in Germany cannot be able to achieve an enviable height due to the fact that the child will be pulled down before he or she reach a university level except if the child is extra ordinarily brilliant. Then I have built a duplex in my village and trying another one for renting. I live in a shared apartment to achieve all this. Germany or Abroad is not anyone home. Even if you have resident permit or citizenship in Germany or any Europe, one day you will be remainded that you are a foreigner just as they did to Ozil the footballer.Ozil have return back his citizenship and went back to turkey with his family. The reason why Nigerians and other Africans is holding tight in Germany despite been subjugated as nonentities is because Nigeria is a shithole country of no hope. So a Nigeria Lady will prefer to waste all her life in Germany as single mom collecting monthly stipend than to go home while the men counterpart will be rooming about looking for white lady to pregnant. No matter how you try, as a black man you are not accepted in Germany. I am yet to see a black police man or woman in Germany. So investing back home is good if you want to return home in the future while your children remain in Germany and be visiting home ones in a while. It is not good for a person to migrate and forget his root back home. To me as an Igbo man it is a taboo and sacrilege for one to dumb his root and continue his generation in a foreign land. Which mean after the father and mother die the children will continue to live in that country like black Americans in America. That is an abomination of highest order. Germany as a country is rich, lot of energy sapping shitty jobs for foreigners, well organized but a hostile place to foreigners. The other EU migrants is even more hostile and racist than Germans. 90% of foreign student leave Germany in the long lawn after their studies and never stay back while in UK the reverse is the case. |

Danielhouston:Excellent and refreshing thread here. In my opinion, I think most people in the diaspora have a misconception on what the definition of ''home'' is. My ''home'' isn't where I was born and raised (Nigeria), but rather, it is where I can live a good life, raise a family and have peace of mind with the knowledge that every penny of tax I pay is being used for what I pay it for. Nigeria is where I was born and raised, the UK is my adopted ''home'' and where I would be buried. A ''home'' shouldn't necessarily be the country of your birth, it should be the place where you and your family are currently comfortable and living a good life. We live in a global village. I'm Nigerian by birth, British by passport, Kenyan by marriage. On a side note, this thread shouldn't be moved to front page. It will get invaded by dodgy characters from politics section etc. ![]() |

Odingo1:So why go to Germany at the first place, why can't you stay back in Nigeria and build the mansion, you see ehn we humans are terrible in one way, now staying in Germany is now abomination because of racism.. At the end, we are just stranger on this earth, the day we die there is nothing like German passport or Nigerian passport again. We only live once, make the best out of it and stop the hate.. |
| Re: Being Black In Berlin/germany by Odingo1: 11:07pm On May 06, 2020 |
rs172:You are misunderstanding it. First I went to Germany to better my life since Nigeria is not working but that is not an excuse for me to dump my root and continue my generation in Germany, that is what I refer to as an abomination. When one die there is something like Nigeria passport because God will ask you of that. Why did God return the children of Israel to the promise land.No matter what there is no place like home. Anytime I enter Nigeria I feel entitled and I hate no one. |

@Danielhouston, weldone once again. I've been following this thread right from the first page and I've learnt more a lot more about Deutschlaand. I don't mean to derail this thread with this post, but I would like to share a post I found while rummaging through past German Student Visa threads here on nairaland. I think it will be helpful for some people, though you've chimed in on most of those issues here. The post is by @Immafrank and I think the moniker is still active Oct 16, 2019 |

A lot of people seem to expect so much from a country that is not theirs. Yes, Germany is not molded for black people and foreigners in general to prosper. We’ve said that endlessly. Germany is not Hollywood either where dreams come true. Not even for German citizens. The Germans are living comfortably, working, renting a flat, paying bills, going on vacations, getting married and growing old. They’re not striving to be Bill Gates or Oprah. Foreigners also get that comfortability, except that it comes at a higher price and with a cross to carry. If you want to achieve more, find somewhere that can give you more. Let’s leave racism and history now. Germany offers asylum to people, gives them money from the job center for rent, transportation, food, pays their health insurance and money for pleasure. They also get to enroll in a language school free of charge, which the German government pays for to help them integrate. They can also take up training or education at the government’s expense, get a job, after 6 years they can apply for a German passport. Germany offers free education to foreigners without taking their money, even the blocked account money is for you. You can get a German degree which is world class, for free and migrate to another country to work. They won’t stop you. Yet you’re cursing them. Talk about menial jobs, somebody has to do it. It’s the same in USA with Mexicans and other foreigners doing the jobs Americans won’t do. People from EU countries also do menial jobs in Germany. So it’s not only black people. Sure, there is racism attached to it but it’s also a sacrifice in a country that is not ours. I have done 4 surgeries which was covered by health insurance, if I was in Nigeria I would have posted my picture on Facebook for Nigerians to donate money so I won’t die. There are also foreigners here getting regular treatment like people living with HIV, those with cancer and other diseases. Which they would suffer to get in Nigeria. During Coronavirus crisis, Germany offered money to everyone who lost their job or business, through the job center. They gave €5000 to artists, both Germans and immigrants, gave out free food and provided housing to those in need. Meanwhile, Nigerian finance house is burning down and Nigerians were on lockdown without food for 2 weeks. Germany is safer than Nigeria. I was arrested last year when I visited Nigeria because police said I looked like a yahoo boy. They almost killed me for nothing. In Germany, I can wear whatever I want and do whatever hair I want, nobody will care. In case of emergency, police is a phone call away, so is ambulance. If you get a German residence permit, whether as a student or refugee, you can travel around other Schengen countries as you like, without visa. You can get a 2 year US visa in 3 days without stress, they send it to your house. 6 month UK visa in one or two weeks. Students also enjoy free transportation and other benefits. Racism is everywhere. It is worse in the US, blacks in the UK also suffer from it. See what they did to us in China, they are selling us in Arab countries, they also hate us in Latin America. You are black and no matter where you go, you will NEVER be seen as equal. Stop acting like Germany is the most racist country on earth and they’re holding your breakthrough. What Germany lacks is representation. Unlike USA and UK, Germany never had a strong black community. The Turkish people are to Germany what blacks are to USA (minus slavery). That’s why there are Turkish police officers, doctors, other jobs but almost no blacks. There is no representation of black people in Germany. Plus, we are not many over here compared to UK or USA. Before a company offers a job, they have to offer it to a German, then an EU citizen, then an immigrant. Is it fair? No. But it’s their country. Maybe if Nigeria did the same, we won’t have many Nigerians being gatemen and security guards for white people in Lagos. So please, stop whining. You can complain about racism and discrimination, I support that, but don’t come here demonizing Germany like it is hell fire. If you hated it so much, why don’t you leave? Stop discouraging people who want to come here and change their lives, from coming. We need more black people here. That’s how we create representation. Since more black Americans have been coming here, things have been changing because important topics are now being discussed to promote inclusion. Bye. |

claremont:I strongly disagree with you on this, a home is where you are born which is connected to the tribe in which you are born into.(Your father’s root). If you travel abroad and make money, it is your duty to bring the money home to develop your root. A foreign land no matter how peaceful or beautiful it may be cannot replace ones fathers homeland. Why is it that the tribe you went to their country cannot leave their place and come and learn your own language and live in your own original country and abandon his own. |
| Re: Being Black In Berlin/germany by Odingo1: 11:37pm On May 06, 2020 |
Danielhouston:All this thing you write now is the why people are coming to Europe and me also. You are the one asking the importance of investing back home like building houses and we are reminding you the reason why and the reality on ground why people take their money home. If Germany is not doing all this things you mention who will spend money or die in the sea trying to enter Europe to Germany. Who is dying to enter Iraq or Afghanistan. |

Danielhouston:Daniel you said nothing but the undiluted truth. All it will take is time for black community to grow and things to change in germany concerning blacks. See how blacks esp Nigerians and jamaicans are almost dominating England. I have this feeling that this computer era will change the perception the whites have about blacks especially those in areas that haven't come across us bfore. And as for the hollywood dream/lifestyle do u think it is only probable in usa or is it realistic ib other European countries besides Germany? Because its in the black mans dna to strive for the best and live a life of show off not just a comfortable mundane life like in germany. |

It’s exciting to see so much life in Berlin! Street singers and people walking in groups as friends I’m sure. Can never ever happen in Cold rich lonely workaholic grumpy uptight Munich! People only come here to make quick money and leave. all Danielhouston has said is the truth! I have never even been to an African shop and it will take the grace of satan to take me there. I barely talk with the Nigerians in my school. The conversation is always Shittu. They talk about irrelevant stupid stuffs. The conversation is always different with the white community, and even their style of hanging out or fun activities. Cycling, puzzles, charade, coffee, exercise. |

We all have different perspectives to this “home” thing. For me, I don’t think i can ever be comfortable in this country until I retire back home in 25/30 years. Reading about what happened to ahmaud is so disastrous. Hope everyone is staying safe. Jah bless. |

Odingo1:I don't see the basics of these accusation to the German state that allowed you to work and make earnings for you to live. Our home is Nigeria but see what it has turned to, is a place that do not encourage growth except you steal (tagged as smartness). Our objective for travelling out is to get educated and a living standard, you can not make that place your home except the inhabitants designed it so, let's strive to go to Germany, get education - which is cheap compared to other western countries; and build our investment in Nigeria. Lets' appreciate the German state for giving us these opportunities because our land has not giving us any, whatever insult we receive, lets take it with joy and pain, knowing that our Fathers has failed us. If we continue to look at racism and break our mental strength, we will fail our children. |

claremont:You said nothing but the truth. No matter the passport, study permit and permanent resident, deep down, you are still a foreigner in another man’s country. Each time I enter Naija I feel the atmosphere differently like a real home. Yes its dirty, no light, bad roads, no security but always remind me of my root and where I come from. Those Akata in America are still pained for not knowing their roots, some came all the way down to other African countries tracing their roots. I curse our leaders for making us living as second class citizen in other countries in the name of greener pastures each time I visit home. Why would you put all your investments in foreign country, example was the man that violated law ignorantly and got deported. Yes, he got what he deserved but that’s a remainder for us that this isn’t home, anything can happen, law can be changed. Be wise invest home. As soon as I clock a certain age, I’m moving back home and yes real HOME. Everyone to his own opinion. |

I’m a silent follower and i must commend the op on the wonderful job he’s doing. I’m sorry if you see this as a derailment but i have to ask please For we that don’t have funds for block account(I’m from the core North my family will never release funds for me to go to the west cos they still believe Nigeria will get better with prayers)but i can source for little funds on my own do you see chances of someone getting to Germany from Austria because there tuitions are relatively low (i saw schools with $1600/yr) and with so much possibilities of getting tuition wavers As i said forgive my ignorance I couldn’t locate an austrian thread and I promise never to ask about further information About Austria once I’m able to get a candid answer to this THANK YOU Hadampson Danielhouston Munichlover |

Danielhouston:I just stumbled over this now and that explains why my question was snubbed and some idiots started insulting me. IT jobs are the only jobs I'm sure one can get in Germany without speaking German, unless you are lucky to get a job in a big multinational where English is the primary language of communication. It will be very difficult for say a civil engineer to get a job without high proficiency in German language. If you must move to Germany to study and secure a job after school, pay attention to the field you are getting into!! OP knows this already ![]() |
