After so much troubleshooting using different spare from the same model of vehicle to test it without any success. I was referred to a technician in Osogbo here. The said he would need to fix the wirings and then scan the vehicle to know what to do. Then he got back to me with the news of the brain box being faulty.
Okay. Means sense. My candid advise is this, make an arrangement with him to get the Brainbox. If the fault is not Brainbox, then it should be returned.

I demand explanation from moderator marpol.

I have been trying to write about my ordeal on this thread but it seemed I could not post anything on this section. It was glaring that I was banned from the section.
I also saw that my last comment on this thread was hidden.

What is the issue here please?

I have been busy with life generally.

My car has been down for about 4 weeks now.

The technician (the guy that was recommended) (Atere in Osogbo) has informed me that the brainbox is faulty and we need to get another one.

He claimed the first guy that worked on the car must have destroyed the brainbox due to negligence/incompetence. huh

At first, when the car was towed to his workshop, he said he would need to work on the wirings before he can be able to read the brainbox. After a week, he has gotten back to me with this bad news.

I cannot but wonder how a small issue could have escalated to such a humongous brouhaha. grin

Worse still, it is claimed that the brainbox is scarce in the market.

I'm at my wits end.

Car is

I have used that corolla before 2004 model, it's a very durable car.
You have mentioned before that the engine has been swapped and brain box. One thing I need to let you know regards toyota, I had same issue where a mechanic just went to buy a Toyota oxygen sensor instead of the exact part number oxygen sensor of my particular Toyota.

The things mechanics do, best bet is to do independent research on your vehicle before meeting with any mechanic. I am going to recommend two mechanics for you in Lagos who I know have fixed more than 1,000 of this your car and if push comes to shove they may have parts to use sparingly in troubleshooting the car since they have many in their workshops.

Odefemi workshop, I will get back to you with the address
Ayoola workshop, this I believe is still at Bode Thomas Surulere. And I believe once you pay them they will give you guarantee and you could always go back if you have any problem.

Let me know if you need more info,

The problem is I'm not in Lagos. I am in Osogbo. Well, moving the car down to Lag is an option.

Thanks

I'm surprised to be mentioned on this thread after 2 long years.

Well, a lot has happened between then and now.
I sold the car in November 2017 for N450k or thereabout. That was just few months after the brainbox issue was resolved.
And this was for reasons other than the car itself. I needed money to complete a much important project.

I am sure I have learnt some lessons from my mistakes. Are you thinking of buying same model of car?

That car is actually good. You bought a badly abused one.
Your first mistake was to go for inspection without a competent mechanic. It would have set you back by 10-20k initially but it would have saved you all these needless trouble.
I admire you courage and upbeat spirit. Next time kindly go with a good technician. If you need suggestions, i can recommend a few here

To your question, yes, I am thinking of buying the same model of car. I stumbled on your thread while looking for reviews.

Thank you for the update. smiley

there's no way of installing a new engine ecu if the current connection is not functional. You will require extensive. Diagnosis on the electrical harness first to figure out why there is no communication. After fixing communication issues, then scan vehicle, pull codes post here and we can continue.
Hello Mr GAZZUZZ, I need a counsel in your expertise please. I am planning on buying a Toyota Corolla 2006 Nigerian used for 1.5m. Everything seems OK however the mileage says 212000km. Also needs some changers like Tie rod and brake pad. Please advice me if the mileage is good or should I be worried and also if I should proceed with this deal.

As long as those are the only issues, it is a good deal.

In the last 4 weeks I have been battling with clutch issues.
I have changed my clutch disk and plates about three times.
I am already counting my losses in terms of finance and precious time.

Here are the symptoms:
- It vibrates very vigorously in reverse gear. (This is the most annoying)
- Sometimes the gears will not function. It will be as if the gear is stuck in neutral. No acceleration possible.
- The last one (yesterday) the clutch was not functioning. I had to drive about 30km without the clutch function. huh

My new mechanic said the flywheel on the engine is damaged. He said he'll be talking it to the welder. I'm just confused here huh

Gurus in the house. Kindly help.

#GodBlessNigeria
