Dear House,

I’m looking to buying an inverter (2.5kva). I want advice on the best brand in the market currently that will serve me very well without any problem.

I also want advise on the best deep cycle battery that will be very rugged and durable.

I’ve never used an inverter before so I’ll need your practical experiences as this will go a long way in helping me make a choice.

Thank you.

2.3kva is 2,300watts
KVA X 0.8=KW. To get the KW equivalent of KVA you multiply the KVA value by the power factor 0.8

I have an illuminose 3.5kva inverter with four battery and 800w solar panel and a 600w wind turbine system i have been using it since 2013 and it give me 24hrs light all round blive nothing compares to it. But i say u have to manage it prudently as it hate been over loaded.
hi, about your wind turbine, is it a VAWT or HAWT? Also what is the starting wind speed. Do you have an idea of the average wind speed in the area you mounted it. ?

Please house I need your help. I got a 1.5kva genius inverter last year August with a Luminous Battery 200AH/12V. I got it from Simba Den. My problem is I had a mini gen before and mistakenly put it on without removing the inverter. This caused a little spark in my inverter like something burnt. Ever since then my inverter that would last for more than12hours doesn't last past 4 hours.

I'm looking to replace the inverter this month because I feel the battery is still top notch. Any recommendations please? A good durable brand.

For a suoer inverter, what is the implication/effect aside the humming noise on appliances?

If it’s something like that you are getting; the main issue I saw with it is that, the discharge cut of voltage is too low; and can in the long run destroy your battery I think about 9.5v for a 12v battery

And it seem to over charge for some battery ratings, up to 14.6v or 15v thereabout

How true is this statement?
A new inverter sealed lead acid battery of 200ah will carry a constant load of 12amps(140w) for 10hours at 60%dod.

Hi, Yes it’s true

@ 60%DoD, your battery is typically 120AH
140watts = 12 x I
I=11.6667A
120Ah/11.67A
10hrs and some minutes

60% dod is 120ah
Therefore 120ahx12vx0.8=1152watt hour
Then to get the number of hours =1152/140= 8.2hrs
Note: the 0.8 i inserted is cos of energy loss and electrical inaccuracies. U can only get 8hours of 140watts energy bro.

Hello sir, your 0.8 pf for battery conversion may not be necessary here, the battery surely as it’s dod, which serves as the state of efficiency; coming up with a 0.8 loss may be misleading how about if the pf is 0.7? Or 0.9? Only the manufacturers can provide you with an efficiency which is called DoD or you can get that from the Inverter manufacturers as pf 0.6/0.8, so for a good battery your 0.8 may not be required, if there must be Losses like I said 0.8 is way too much to insert by ourselves; except it’s adviced by the particular battery or Inverter brand

Efficiency of a battery is Dod not pf and that’s why from 200ah you got 140ah at 60% dod of efficiency

You think so? Well I would have said the same few weeks ago until I saw my inverter pulling a loss of over 100w and another inverter pulling just above 20w under the same load condition so yes 0.8 can't be applied to all set-up but it's not necessarily "too high" a figure for planning.

Ok, I get your point, I was particular about the battery performance level, and not necessarily the type of Inverter, in my post I spoke of the case where you can get to know it’s pf for that particular Inverter.” Like a typical mercury 2.4kva Inverter runs on a 0.6pf, some inverters May be more above that, so for an ideal situation the battery should last as long as that, but the case of efficiency is now dependent on the Inverter make or brand, and how many of its power is lost. Truly due to losses there certainly can be variations in time. I agree with that.
