This is the most selfish suggestion I have ever seen, opening schools at this point will be the craziest thing to do, that will be madness, take for instance my school, UNN, where students come from Lagos, Abuja, Kano, Kadunna, etc, if we should resume, it will surely prompt interstate travels, students with the virus but are asymptomatic will travel too, spreading the virus along the way, this means putting both the school, the students, and the entire Enugu state in danger........what of our lecture halls? With about 800 sitting capacity but school just find a way to jam-pack over a thousand students into an 800 capacity lecture hall, which means no social distancing, what about restaurants? Ofcourse students will eat, and with a COVID-19 patient(yet to know his/her status) as the waiter, men, everyone eating there are TOAST.......what about hostels? Or do you not realise that a lot of people with this virus do not develop the symptoms early but can still transmit it? The man is thinking from his pocket, he should use his head........no well meaning parents Will agree to risk their wards in the name of resuming schools.

Is this not a way of promoting self interest, and putting the lives of our children at risk all in the name of profit. And moreover all the protocols he mentioned refers to private tertiary institutions.
The other school levels from secondary to nursery whether private or public should stay at home.If any move is made to open either the secondary/ nursery levels it means endangering the lives of Nigerian youths.

He has offered a solution. What is yours. Remain at home twiddling your thumbs awaiting the influenza virus to die off.

Good news. Influenza viruses donot die off. Covid 19 will remain in circulation for years to come. Stay at home till then and see what happens to your life, your community, your country, if there is any left.

You better start thinking seriously of the consequences of the total destruction of the economy of which the education sector is critical amongst many others. Has goverment not proven enough to you that they simply cannot take care of you.

If schools are closed for the next ten years you think it will affect top goverment officials with kids abroad. They will still use your money to send their kids to school while you bicker and fight yourselves here.

You better start thinking and find a way out of this mess instead of flooring every idea that comes your way.
Why are you stacking the young man, I didn't see anything wrong with what he typed.
Or are schools free of charge.
Don't worry too much, in six months, vaccine will be out, students will go back to school, business will resume in full, till then, stay safe !

Afe Babalola has joined the league of people exposed by this COVID19, obviously he wants his university to open but FG has since warned him.

We know Education is important, but can you please take a walk out of your imagination and let's face reality?? The truth is, opening schools now, (no matter the protocol procured) will be what I will love to describe as "SUICIDE" am a student and I know how student coexist in schools, even if we divide the population in every lecture hall into 20, and each sect attend lectures just 3 days a week, plus all the hand washing stuffs and all, someone in the school reatruant will disobey one simple rule and that will put the lives of many at risk, one student somewhere who might be asymptomatic might cook and share the food to his roomies, the roomies share the toilet with the entire hostel series, who will end up mixing with people from other series, and finally the entire school, the markets, and the entire town........we can't play luck with our lives, there must be a known cure before we can start school

His suggestions sounds good but the Nigerian factor would ruin it in a matter of minutes.....

Case study is the easing of lockdown and interstate travel ban.. There will always be stubborn goats and saboteurs that will mess everything up....

Let them stick to e-learning for the time being.

What of students coming from other states? Have u forgotten that there is no interstate movement? Baba don't be selfish, we can't risk the lives of our children because of school

This is when we should realised that most African countries have not really improved on what/how the colonial master left.

We can't rule ourselves successfully with reasonable progress.

The question is, if Coronavirus remain with us till next year December, will school still remain closed?!

What if its stays more for 2years, school will still remain closed?

Coronavirus has really open our yansh very well. cool That's why people are dying like chicken in the North, on what they would usually run to foreign lands to treat.

The world will leave Africans behind if our government fail to put on their thinking cap and justify the unreasonable fat salaries they receive and embezzled.

They should find effective way of managing this situation.

In respect to what Chief Afe Babalola has said.....we tend to repidly forget the fact that some things can't work yet in Nigeria.Maybe because we are used to hard life,i can't say .I don't know if what Chief said is in the interest of school owners or of the people ....Now those who are close to doctor's will get permit at no expense and then come back to school....Before we know it all...it is all over .Even the western world that we look up to are not resuming earliar than september so why the rush? But my opinion though.

How many public schools from university down to primary schools can afford these bearing in mind the poor infrastructural development of our public institutions.

As good as these suggestions seem or sound, only private schools would be able to keep up, so what happens to students in public schools? Even FG and States Government can do those mentioned solutions up there because they dont love the masses. Lets all keep waiting, till the total lockdown is over
Re: Afe Babalola: How FG Can Reopen Schools, Universities Within Four Weeks by Arcbox(m): 1:38pm On May 12, 2020
that man is just after money and collection of school fees without considering people's health. He is not a public health professional to give advice in that regards. The virus originated from China. As I speak, all schools in China are shut down after 5 months even when the virus is nonexistent in some province. The government should not listen to his advice until a concrete framework on prevention, control and possible cure is sorted out. Everybody are giving selfish advice. Give the the power and he will perform worst after all, it's their generation that put us were we are today.

what baffle me is the technology we lack,if schools were to be at home they should switch to online learning immediately and students who are writing exams should write it online, have took exams and interview online ,i know how smooth it is.

Hmm

Not as if the private education entrepreneurs love education as such, they are just so concerned about the amount they are losing from the nonpayment of school fees by the school closure.

Na the parents of the students go still carry the burden of the cost of the mentioned preventive measures, not the school. It will eventually be added to their fees
you are so on point
