I get your point, i think you were asked to present a permit “at” the school because they assumed that you will be physically present which the “normal” scenario. A study permit allows one to study “in” a country, if you are studying online you are not in the country for that period abi? Anyway let me not over-flog this issue, i am sure our schools will provide guidance.

I believe this page from U or R will help you understand

The explanation I got from my school is that since my course is not ordinarily available as an online program, I will need to show a study permit to commence first semester online, because subsequent semesters will be face to face.

Of what use is the first semester if I cant continue with the class and other semesters are not available online?

This requirement is not compulsory for courses that ordinarily have online option.

all that one na just sweet talk, they want you to get a study permit....simple as that lol

Pls are we to print and sign the IMM forms before scanning and uploading? Or i can fill, save and upload without signing?

Hello Pee2Jay9,

You don't have to sign it. You can leave it blank. On the other hand, you can decide to print out and sign then upload before submitting. Either way is good but the first option is totally fine.

Hello Iloveutd,

Facilitate the funds to be transferred/refunded to your friend, only if you completely trust this friend. This will drastically reduce the administrative cost or charged commission for inter-border transfer. Thereafter, you can sort it out with your friend. This road-map shouldn't be taken if this person isn't well-known.

N.B: if you have requested for refund beyond the stipulated time frame to do so, you may lose some good amount from both administrative cost from the college and transfer commission/charges.

Thanks @Luckymama
I’m grateful for this piece.
For the study progression, I’d get a refund of the fees paid and reapply for a masters or PGD that relates to my previous degree.
And as for the funds, I’d do as you’ve rightly said.
As for the employment, I got out of a job last Dec as it was the end of the contract employment as a graduate intern in an consulting (accounting) firm which I included in my LOE but didn’t submit any evidence such as employment letter to proof as I felt it wasn’t strong enough and moreover I was out of the job before submitting the application. Tho I just got anoda with Zenith but I’m not sure if I’m to upload that as the job description doesn’t align with my previous degree and current professional exam (ACCA).
Lucky-mama:
@sterling1122, to the best of my knowledge, applying for a post secondary certificate after a B.Sc is what earned you a “purpose of visit” denial. From what I have learnt there needs to be study progression, so you need to apply for a course that is linked to either your work experience or previous degree.

As for funds, it may be better to wait until the entire estate (your mum’s) is liquidated so you have the entire 11 million at your disposal. At the same time I don’t know if that money will suffice for the both of you at the same time. Though with these people sef one can never tell because even when you apply with more than enough funds they still deny.

To give yourselves the best chance, get another admission that shows study progression- perhaps a masters or at the very least a post graduate diploma. Then one of you should choose to apply while the other supports.

You also did not indicate if you work as I noticed you had a refusal for current employment situation. If you work include evidence of this - especially if it’s a good job.

All the best

Good morning sirs and madams.
Please, I need your help
My wife just got admission for a Master’s Program for fall 2020 (A two years program). We live in one of the Asian countries. My sister’s husband in Nigeria is the main sponsor. I as the husband, want to be a co-sponsor (because I think it responsible as the husband to be a sponsor even though my sister will sponsor tuition and boarding), but I do not have enough money in my account here. I am writing in my sponsorship letter that I will be using my land in Nigeria to take a loan from my sister to be a co-sponsor even though, my sister is taking full responsibility for the studies with about 40 million naira (Tuition and boarding is about 9 million naira for one year). Please does it make sense?

Thanks

5. The doc is the Letter of Administration from the high court.
B. The full balance on the statement of account is 11m but the PFA chose to write 5m (which was wat the court wrote on the LOA) because of the Nigeria factor of for instance, Lawyers wanting to get their share of the money coz of the huge amount involved, court demanding some percentage and all that

lol chill, you have lots of options.
There are many factors involved in getting denied.
you could do a masters in a related field, doing a PGD when you already got a masters seems rather far fetched lol, just do a run through of a good uni with low tuition. that should help.
A Phd would look good too tho, since you already working.like I said you have options don't fret.

Let's know your decision when you pick any..so we know how to proceed from there

Hello Meek127,

Undeniably, your advice is valid and spot on. I will just contribute my quota to support Chocolateblessi's query. There are two perspectives to academic/education progression;

1. Conventionally (Academics): an educational progression should always go upward in terms of academic qualification(s) which you have well stated.

2. Unconventionally (Professional): an educational progression which doesn't follow a linear academic qualification(s) but rather follows progressive trends of/in the labour market or making a switch when a previous academic qualification seems obsolete/irrelevant at a given period of time in the labour market.

The above mentioned is duly recognized and always acknowledged by the VO if well stated/presented with outright/peculiar reason(s). This reason(s) must be properly spelt out to outline any relevant experience, voluntary work/services, internship, membership organization, online studies etc and demonstrate how its relevance prior to completion can attain self-development or professional/career advancement.

There are huge numbers of Masters students who utterly have no intention of going for a Ph.D. some do it just to be pair with their peers and for several other reasons in the societal sphere. These are the ones who don't see themselves as academias or academicians.

The essences of all these sayings is in support of the fact that after a Master, one can still do a PGD/C or any other professional programs (esp if the attained Master degree was a Research/Thesis-based) to be a big cat that can easily be spotted in the wildlife called LABOUR MARKET in actual reality. This isn't a red flag. But however, it becomes so if not properly demonstrated or being able to create a pathway to enable the VO easily walk through the reasons or intentions for taking such academic pathway.

P.S: this is not an attack nor correction but just a contribution.

One love!

This does not make sense to me, Why would one need a visa to attend online classes? I believe the purpose of the visa is to allow entry into the country, if you will be studying online then i think it makes sense that proof of payment of fees should be sufficient for now until one needs to be physically present. It is like saying people who do online degrees need a visa? You might as well be taking an online degree at the school, does that mean one needs a visa to take online courses?
Taken your courses online for the time being is not compulsory, but if you insist on not taking it then you can defer your admission to next available session for your course. They suggested the online thing due to the Corona virus thing so students who have secured TRV don't loose time.
Once there's free movement the students can move to Canada to continue.
NB: There's a high possibility that the airports will be opened before the end of the semester

Yes you can. As at today, international students who have visas before March 18 are viewed as essential workers and can travel to Canada. Provided this doesn’t change, you can travel as soon as the travel restrictions in Nigeria is lifted.
If you don’t wish to travel, you can start in Nigeria pending when things will normalize.

The world is evolving and there are new learnings everyday about study Visa application. While each application is unique, Applicants must learn to submit straight forward documents in a way that document A will relate well with B without doubts..

Sometimes the SOP is where all the flaws in one's application comes out, I know Frank (very good man) has helped vetted alot of SOPs here, but let us all make sure that what we are saying in our SOPs correlate with the documents we are submitting.

Back in the 2017, I am not sure we submitted the kind of documents been submitted now (maybe I am being bais). But please never give up on your dreams cz of bad news or rejections.

You are spot on.

Yes I understand that, it makes sense. My point is why are folks saying you need a visa to attend online classes? if the school is providing that alternative for now due to covid is it not because they are aware you cannot be physically present? Is visa requirement for online classes a directive from the school or embassy or just a wrong assumption?
What happens if someone without the visa register for the semester and later got denied TRV and the travel restriction is lifted? Will the student be said to have failed that semester?
I don't get your point

Good morning sirs and mas.
Please, I need your help

My younger sister and I both applied for study permit March 19 this year, did our biometrics and got a correspondence letter as regards the biometrics April 23. Only to get a refusal letter May 11.

Below were my (same reasons stated for sis) refusal grounds:

Thank you for your interest in studying in Canada. After careful review of your study permit application and supporting documentation, I have determined that your application does not meet the requirements of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA) and Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations (IRPR). I am refusing your application on the following grounds:
• I am not satisfied that you will leave Canada at the end of your stay, as stipulated in subsection 216(1) of the IRPR, based on your family ties in Canada and in your country of residence.
• I am not satisfied that you will leave Canada at the end of your stay, as stipulated in subsection 216(1) of the IRPR, based on the purpose of your visit.
• I am not satisfied that you will leave Canada at the end of your stay, as stipulated in subsection 216(1) of the IRPR, based on the limited employment prospects in your country of residence.
• I am not satisfied that you will leave Canada at the end of your stay, as stipulated in subsection 216(1) of the IRPR, based on your current employment situation.
• I am not satisfied that you will leave Canada at the end of your stay, as stipulated in subsection 216(1) of the IRPR, based on your personal assets and financial status.

Hello Sterling1122,

The profile seems good. My curiosity is who was the sponsor for both of you and how was the financial strength of this sponsor? Also, are you earning in the labout market and how did you demonstrate this, do show your BS? How long is the duration of your program? It will be better if you go for a PGD/C than a Post-Secondary Diploma, only if you don't have clear reasons for the choice program and/or if you can't demonstrate the significance of such program towards a progressional career path.

Be as it may be, try to inquire if your prospect DLI offer a PGD/C in your desired course or something related. Don't rush to seek for refund or take certain decisions in regards to your application without proper inward assessment.

However, not notarizing documents for Canada SP is optional except if the situation of a document calls for it. This is not the case as most applicants whether successful or delayed didn't notarized.

Lastly, even if the GCMS notes is now often generic, request for it before refiring. It may just come different with answers.

BTW this response is also applicable to your sister.

All the best

@sterling
Luckymama has said most of the good stuff lol
The only tricky part is the family ties(home ties).. since you got a job now, that should help a lot. Just construct the SOP in a good way that shows relationship between your previous degree, your present job and what you intend studying.
You just started the job,i hope Zenith will let you take a leave at this point.. anyways get the necessary doc from the bank to support home ties.

Please and please, whatever you state in your SOP,make sure you have evidence for it
You should have included that voluntary work you did...it helps... just try get evidence

your hubby has 6mil for sponsorship, your living expense and all is closely around 7mil. Only option is to liquidate that asset.

How many years is your intended course btw?

Pls,ensure to state strong reason(s) in your SOP as to why you didn't include employment status earlier..cuz the VO will wonder haha

P.S...Funds won't be enough for you and your sis

Good day house and all the gurus, I’m writing my SOP right now, is it advisable to talk about a school that you paid the acceptance fee then turned down because of another school in order to like show how much you care about this particular school and their program?

Thank you for your responses.

Hello Cflow10,

Ideally, there won't be need. Logically, there MAY be need especially if you intend to demonstrate the significance of the course in that particular institution against others that offers similar institution.

N.B: there is no one rules to writing a Letter and different ways of presenting narrarives. This is what makes it unique. What is felt to be irrelevant might just be what is consider to be the dealmaker to a successful application. Being able to demonstrate onself as a genuine student doesn't only entails major factors but minor factors as your query.
