My Experience In Yaba And Lagos Island by Chrisbella24(f): 8:43am On May 19, 2020 |
So yesterday, my client asked me to source some wears from the popular Yaba and Idumota Market. I got to the bus stop by 8:30 am and waited for over 1hr because there was no bus. I couldn't wait any longer so I had to trek to yaba Market. I got to Yaba Phase 1 and I was like What!? I wasn't really expecting a few people on the road but the crowd I saw ehn? Wait! I was expecting a little bit of social distancing but where is it? I'm sorry but I didn't find any Social distancing. Zero facemasks! I only saw Jaw mask Lol! Looked like everyone was protecting their Jaw. People hugging and shaking hands everywhere. Close contact while talking to each other with the mask under their Jaw. Got to the Main Yaba market and it was Times 2 of the normal market crowd. People dragging wears, hustlers dragging you to buy from them. Again, Zero social distancing! I couldn't do much there because the crowd was excess. Where people sef see money dey buy Cloth? I went back to Phase 1 again and the crowd waiting for a bus was terrifying. I'm sure you thought BRT are carrying 1person per seat? Snap out of it! 2per seat plus small standing. God knows I Laughed so hard when I saw this. Corona will be laughing at Us so hard too.. People were rushing the available BRT and Danfo and Heaven knows I was trying in my own way to observe Social distance so No, I didn't rush any BRT. Guess the price from Yaba to Idumota? 200 naira with two per sit. On a normal day, it is 50naira. YABA In pictures... I'll share Lagos Island soon. 1 Like

I'm so sorry but I ended up dragging a bus because there was no time on my side. I got to Idumota Market and it looks like Christmas Season During Christmas Season, Idumota looks to Congested. That's exactly what it looked like yesterday and I couldn't take pictures due to the crowd Left Idumota Market to Balogun Market and OMG! Where are women getting money to buy clothes? Where are they wearing all this Asoebi too? The hair section was crazily Crowded! No money, no money people still dey buy human hair. Hmm, Money dey where e dey oo. Finished shopping by 2:44 pm I was about to leave the market before the closing period but my Customer called and said he needed 100pcs pieces of particular slippers . As an Igbo girl, I can't miss this money and I can't wait till Wednesday . I had to run from Balogun to the Idumota slippers section ( anyone that knows this market knows how far I ran). The Taskforce was already ringing the bell and packing people's goods. Everyone was running and packing their goods hurriedly.. Social distancing? NO! Facemask? I'm sorry No! Corona is sure laughing at Us, Everyone! I didn't even where I kept my Facemask while running. I'm so sorry Nairalanders Got to the slippers warehouse, paid for the good and started looking for my Facemask

Forget about Corona, I'm more worried about how all Nigerian cities are so backward and under developed after seeing all these pictures Upon all these trillions we see on the news everyday non of it can be Chanel into providing us Good and modern cities! Damn!!!!!!!! No stable electricity, No good roads, No Mega city!! Nothing to be proud of as a Nigerian!! Some countries Don't even have half of what nigeria generate in a month, Yet they are far better than Nigeria in every term Things are getting worse everyday, and there's no glimmer of hope that all these will change anytime soon! I weep for this country!! Just see this mess of a place below:: 3 Likes

Chrisbella24:There's nothing in this picture that is out of place. These are popular markets, the crowd is not much,I was expecting to see larger crowd from the way you carried it on your head like gala. I see people wearing face mask, they are there to earn a living so as to feed their families, you were there for business also,so what's the fuss about? |

After dispatching the goods, I trekked to CMS BRT stand lo and behold . Unimaginable Crowd BRT now closes by 6:00 PM. I got to BRT stand by 3:45 pm. Waited and waited for it to get to my turn but it didn't. Initially, they were carrying 1per sit but the crowd was too much and everyone was complaining. They had to carry two per sit plus plenty of standing . Man must reach house las Las. I waited for complete 2hrs yet, it didn't get to my turn. After the last BRT in the picture below, the Ticket sellers boarded a bus and left us I left, climbed the CMS bridge and yet, there was no bus due to Traffic Plus 8 PM curfew GUESS WHO SLEPT AT THE POLICE STATION YESTERDAY? ME! YES, me. I slept there

That's why the virus keeps increasing in Lagos everyday. Just take a look at those people in the pictures. I know they are all there to hustle and make a living, but at least they should use precautionary measures to ensure their safety first. Na person wey dey alive go enjoy him money. CIAO!!! 1 Like |
