Wow this is deep. Really deep.

This story makes me remember a statement by the former emir of Kano. "There are only two tribes in Nigeria, the elites and the masses". Every time we fight about religion and etnicity we are actually foolishly doing the elites a favor, they actually set off this fight to ensure we don't hold them accountable.
We need to stand up, hold hands and put a stop this foolishness. So help us God.

Very touching story
Most times,it seems like it's only girls who suffer in the north,but boys have their equal share of suffering there too.
My problem is,this story happened around 1990 and down.
This is 2020,yet we still have almajiris suffering like this.
From the story,I can conclude that there are a few government officials,even if just one or two who have actually been almajiris at a point in their lives.
Why isn't anything being done to abolish this system?

Seems like a good topic for fp too.

Ya, u heard even atiku was once an almajiri, the problem is illiteracy. Majority of Northerners are illiterate and so much believe in their religion. Their religion tell them to practice almajiri. Even the educated northerners cannot tell the illiterate to go against such practice because it's endorsed by their religion.

Correct me if I'm wrong,but I don't think almajiri is a Muslim thing,at least not now.
In the middle east where islam originated from,I don't think it's still being practiced.
Even here in Nigeria,yoruba Muslims don't practice it too.
It's not about the religion.
It's the set of selfish people who practice it.

To the northerners is a religious way of life, it require the children to learn the Koran from tender age till adolescent. They believe learning the Koran is better and important than education.

Those are not almajiries. Those ones are with their mother. Almajiries are alone with no parents or family member. When those illiterate northerners give birth to a child, if the child is a boy, he send him to a far away state to learn the Koran from a malam. The malam normally own a small house were he houses the children and teach them Koran. As for their feeding they are strictly on their own, this is why the resort to begging.
