Dear all, Thanks for all you do.

My younger sister gained admission to do an MBA in Canada last year 2019. We applied for a visa (paper route). Unfortunately she was denied visa. Reasons 'She does not meet the financial requirement'.

In the application, I, her brother was the major sponsor. I included property documents worth about 40M Naira. I also submitted certificates of investment with some Agro-tech companies worth about 30 million Naira too. I submitted a personal bank statement with an account balance of about 20M Naira, and a bank statement of my business account with an account balance of 20M Naira. However, my personal account has funds coming and going in very often with very huge turnover since I run a crypto exchange platform.
My business account was registered as a general merchandise, import-export, buying and selling business 2 years ago. However these days I just use it for my crypto exchange business when I exhaust the limit on my personal account. So for both my personal accounts and business, we have funds coming in and going out. It doesn't really stay for long. However 1 month to submitting the application, I ensured I always left a tangible sum of 10-20M there. (seems this did not work with the visa denial).

Also, most of my funds are kept in crypto assets (BTC and USDT), so I could not include these other funds when submitting documents as her sponsor. Immediately after the denial, I opened another personal account and tried to deposit funds monthly there to build a history. I wanted to build these funds for 6 months and get it to about 40M Naira. I could only do this for 2 months and managed to deposit about 11M Naira before I had to withdraw all and convert to USD cash after I got intel of the Naira devaluation in March. However, when I was withdrawing the money from the account, I always included a comment on each transfer 'Purchase of dollar'.

The problem here is, we want to reapply for the visa next month. However, I am confused on how to prove to the consul and Canadian High Commission that I am capable of sponsoring her education in Canada. Most of my assets are in crypto and stored in 'cold and hard storage'. My company is not registered as a crypto company. There are no crypto laws in Nigeria currently. There is more than enough money to support her financially, but I do not know the best way to prove to the Canadian high commission that these funds are readily available.

I still have about 30M Naira in Agro-tech. However, majority of my capital remains in Crypto. Also, I am still very young. Does this play a role? How do I go about this? What's the best way to prove that I can sponsor her.

Hello Naijaoyibo,

This post really got my attention in numerous ways. One for the fact that you have surplus funds for the sponsorship intent and two, you can't show this funds. My response may not suffice enough to the best advantageous way to your query due to certain limited information regarding the following:

Sponsor:

1. Age
2. Landed Properties
3. Parents circumstances/situation
4. Personal level of establishmet
4. Status
5. Outside investment other than Crypto

Applicant:

1. Personal circumstances
2. Financial status
3. Status
4. Previous program
5. Employment/current situation/circumstances

The house will be able to guide you better with info to these reverse querry. Maybe we could be help to each other because I am really interested in Crypto. We could barter knowledge.

All the best

Please someone should attend to this question. I'm supposed to resume by November. This exam is what is holding my admission. I don't what to ask them stupid questions like, can i come to Canada and write it there?

If you don't attend to this question this last time I'm sending it, I'll be very angry with all of you grin grin grin

My School just sent me an email that i will have to write an entrance exam in Nigeria. I will do that in any university or college or organisation that supports such exam.

The Below is the email he sent. I copied the confusing part

Step 2: Write the pre-admissions entrance exam. We are available Monday-Thursday from 9AM-5:30PM and Friday 8:30AM-2:30PM.

For applicants that are located in another city, province or country they may write the pre-admission examination at a local University or College that is equipped to proctor exams from other institutions.

How to find a proctor:

If you wish to write the exam closer to home, please provide us with the name of the Institution, the name of the proctor, professional e-mail address and business contact number that is equipped to do so. We will then contact the proctor and arrange for them to have access to the pre-admission examination online.
Mandatory Pre-Admissions Entrance Exam:

1. Who has written any such exam?

2. And where will i find the university doing it?

Please i await your response

Una dy make this stuff difficult.. all this money yet she was denied for the same reason insufficient financial resources.

Please if you wish to reapply,

Use your own personal account, using a company account isn't okay, don't even include it.. if you can just pay her full tuition fee if it's not fully paid, apply with your personal account, your sponsor employment docs can be the business u do.. all this investments remove it all..

Just make this application simple and straightforward, the VO probably only wanted to see your personal account balance savings, if it's sufficient for her upkeep and living expenses cos clearly you can cater for all that and also Cos the person you are sponsoring is still young. You have started well by opening an account just for her visa parole which has amounted to 11m..

Hello Anon123,

The bolded isn't always the case. There is difference between family and third party sponsorship. There is no harm using a company account for a parent/sibling sponsorship especially in the marital status of the OP. Let's not always mix up this things and cause unnecessary fear or panic. Notwithstanding, your posts are insightful.

I am expecting to get my second semester tuition fee plsu living expenses from my sister I stated I would be using as main sponsor, using myself as sponsor should I have her send the money to me as a gift deed? My sister in Canada has no family and status, she lives in a 2bedroom apartment that has anotherr occupant in the other room but she has informed the occupant to vacate as I will be arriving. God bless you for your reply.
shyle02:

My opinions are my own

Firstly, I am planning to use my two sisters as my sponsor. ==> Is it possible you combine the sponsor to be just one person to make the application less cumbersome. (if two sponsors, make it yourself and the other person)

My other sister which is the Co-sponsor has a PR in Canada and I want her to give me a sponsorship letter to proof she will take care of accommodation and probably a little of feeding. ==> When you mean, she will take care of your accommodation, is she going to let you stay with her or support you in terms of cash for your accommodation.
Some things matter here, there is a Canadian National Occupancy Standard, Single household members 18 years or older should have a separate bedroom, does she stay in a house/apartment with additional room available, remember Canada knows her address, family size also and the kind of house she stays, if this will mean she will have to take a new house, they know her income level through tax to know if she can afford it.

So I will advise, you still show your 10k

Secondly, I have a registered business and also I work in a company owned by the family and earn 300k will this be good enough as family tie ==> this is good for family ties. You could also use your daughter as family ties, and don't forget to state her in your application

Lastly, for the rent, can you quantify the amount you do receive yearly, collect some and save them and show it to Canada, Canada is interested in available cash as at the time of application.

Go through the GCMS note and deal with the VO's concern. Also, get your siblings to sign an affidavit on your behalf, stating your application for a study permit is solely for studying. You do not intend to immigrate to Canada. You will return to Nigeria after you complete your studies or before your status expires. That you will not rely on Canadian public funds or social assistance.

This means you need to get an invigilator to invigilate your exam. Usually, such a person would be a lecturer, teacher or anyone in the academic field. The person must have a school email address. something like ojo@unilag.com.
If you are unable to find an invigilator or if your invigilator does not have a school email, send an email to your school and explain your situation. Also, let them know schools are closed and physical distancing could be a hindrance. Ask them if you can do your exam online.

Your financial situation is strong enough to sponsor your sister to any level she wants, but then with all these money yet she was denied reason might be that they don't believe such money is real or available, due to our economic situation here and the level our country is in terms of corruption they hardly believe us even if you show 100million.
My advise is, make it simple pay to one of your account maybe one million, like that u can transfer to some People to deposit into your account like thrice a week till you reach to a reasonable amount you wish to achieve for her sponsorship.

Secondly, transfer the money she need for her living expenses to her personal account, pls if her account doesn't run in millions u pay in sparingly depending on the strength of her account.

Lastly, please make my last suggestion your second, pay her full tuition for the first academic year, because you have the money and that could convince the VO better that you are financially equipped. if you don't have the strength for the second suggestion I gave after paying the tuition, due to balance reduction, consider paying everything to your account and make use of your personal account as long as it is genuine they don't care to know where the money is coming from except they doubt your geniuety, and once again make sure you are consistent with your previous application and don't show too much documents be straight and direct to the requirements, since the main reason for her denial was based only on finance.

All the best!

Hello Nairalanders

Please I want to ask
I was denied because of purpose of visit and family ties
I was going to a year college program wirh an intent of switching to a univeristy
My dad paid my full tution fee and I had someone in Canada to pay for a year full apartment for me and I also submitted the receipt

I felt thats one of the thing that made the VO raise an eyebrow cause he/she thought I wanted to use the college program as a means of immigration
My question is I'm applying soon and I'm not including the apartment receipt again
Will the VO go back to my old application to check my Documents?

Hello Mobi22,

The VOs always think that every applicant until proven eligible for a SP wants to use it as a means to facilitate entry. It will be best not omit any relevant document esp that which shows any financial commitment et al. If you're expecting more open contributions to your query, give a more detail profile regarding your application so people can give inputs.

You're absolutely right Bro.

As for my colleagues, majority of them if not all got their job offers through international job fairs. I think the best and easiest way you can secure a job is to register for the job fairs which are usually held at Dubai or France. In this present time, most companies in Canada are not recruiting foreign nationals due to the current global pandemic, instead some employers are laying off workers as a result of decreased business capitalization or low income to pay up their on ground staffs.

When the travel restrictions relaxes, interested candidates might also utilize the AIPP route by registering for any of the available job fairs as mentioned above.

It will end in praise

My brother,

You're right but this on its own isn't also easy. Well, most people still don't understand the influence of Google. Your insights are valid.

Hello, sorry about your refusal however the TRAVEL HISTORY is not what you should worry yourself about. your major concern should be the purpose of visit. many applicants have made the same error of declaring their post-graduate qualifications. I can also testify that 2 applicants that applied for a PGD program with their master's degree and still got approved. GCMS notes may sound repeated but you need to be 100% certain that your refusal was strictly based on over-qualification reasons.

My advice for you would have been to apply for a POST BACCALAUREATE DIPLOMA PROGRAM. This is the only recognized PGD program in Canada that allows you to obtain credits in a different discipline. let me explain how to make use of these programs;

scenario 1: An Engineering student that wants to understand the business aspects of running an organization but obviously did not take business courses in the undergraduate and even masters level can enroll for POST BACCALAUREATE DIPLOMA IN BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION. Therefore gaining valuable business credits to supplement his previous qualifications.

Scenario 2: An accounting professional with a master's degree who wants to understand the relationship/nexus between IT AND FINANCE can undergo a program in POST BACCALAUREATE DIPLOMA IN DATA ANALYTICS. Therefore once again gaining credits in an unfamiliar field to supplement previous qualifications.

A lady I know personally as a BSc degree in Accounting and MBA. she is also a chartered accountant and still got approved to study a program in POST BACCALAUREATE DIPLOMA IN FINANCE. Please note that accounting and finance are two different things. hence, The difference between finance and accounting is that accounting focuses on the day-to-day flow of money in and out of a company or institution, whereas finance is a broader term for the management of assets and liabilities and the planning of future growth

all the best.....

Thanks

Hello Strongwind1960,

It is always advisable to declare any health issues. It may have work for your friends doesn't mean it will for others. Every applicant is suppose to truthfully declare or intimate IRCC with accurate information in order for the VO not to induce error. Asthma and even Turbaculosis doesn't ALWAYS end up in denial if the applicant can prove that its under proper check. For the application to be more transparent, its best to declare it in the IMM form because the panel physician will definitely find out and revert to IRCC. So why take chances of not declaring it ab initio? These VOs are discretionally active and vibrant. Immigration process is a very complicated process and honesty is a consideration.

Good morning gurus in the house @justmellow @justwise and everyone else.
I am an old timer and I have been delayed twice. I am planning to re fire and I would like some light to be shed into my documentations.
Firstly, I am planning to use my two sisters as my sponsor, the main sponsor is in UK and I will be having her transfer my second semester tuition into my account as I have made payments for my first do I still need to show her SOA and does she need to have a reasonable closing account balance(note my program of study is 3years) ,plus some extra funds for living expense. My other sister which is the Co-sponsor has a PR in Canada and I want her to give me a sponsorship letter to proof she will take care of accommodation and probably a little of feeding. Do I still need to show 10k cad even after she will be sponsoring accommodation and feeding or will showing 5kcad miscellaneous be enough. Secondly I have a registered business and also I work in a company owned by the family and earn 300k will this be good enough as family tie(I have a daughter but I am not married is it advisable to include her as family tie or not). Thirdly I get rents annually form properties inherited from my late dad but you know how polygamous families are we are all joined together in various properties but I am a beneficiary in more than one places. Will including the last will of testament and explaining in my SOP how much I get annually plus the turnover of my business be reasonable enough as proof of funds accessible to me in subsequent years. Thank you all as you help shed more light to this. God bless you

Hello Shizzleadedapo,

You've failed state the reasons for your previous refusals and did you request for your notes between intervals? If yes, what did it state and/or was it generic?

With the limited information at hand, get them to pay your first year tuition fees and show the required $10k in full. Also, for proper guidance from the house, you ought to state the financial and personal circumstances of your sponsors. In as much as inflows and outflows are relevant in a given situation, the closing balance is utmost.

Furthermore, you should declare your child and provide evidence proving you're a single parent. This makes it easy for future referencing of the child to IRCC in terms of immigration when the time comes.

For your personal status and financial situation, you should demonstrate these things to the VO with substantial and cogent proof. My response was based on the provided info.
