Let Me Introduce You Guys To My Dog... by coolcentbigman(m): 12:16am On May 21, 2020
I developed this gr8 love for dogs when I went for holidays at my uncle's house who had a German Shepherd and I was made reasonable for it's care during my stay in his house, the dog was so huge and well mannered and my Uncle name him RESCUE but we later lost him to death

Since then I have always longed for big dogs, breeds like Caucasian Shepard, Rottweiler e.t.c.
but unfortunately I'm not financially stable to have the desired breeds.

Let me introduce you to my beloved and amazing pet dog called Pedro. He is loved by everyone in the family sometimes his behavior makes me doubt if he's a pure bingo(local dog) or mix breed.

My uncle bought a puppy which is a foreign breed(Rottweiler), it was imported and he gave it to the family as a gift but I was not around then so the puppy wasn't given much care, so it died from a deadly illness. It was stooling and vomiting blood before they could get any help the puppy died.

Pedro was so fond of the puppy that they were always seen together and the puppy made him aggressive because the puppy barks and he attacks whenever strangers come into our compound.

When the puppy died Pedro turned to something else people come into the compound whenever they feel like and he will just be there looking at them, I hated Pedro for that because even my friends mock me whenever they come to visit...he would run away whenever they charge towards him.

I don't have the puppy's pix because I was not around to take any and it name was Jasper, the name was given to it by my kid brother he also loves dogs

Hahahaha, Pedro has been attacked severally, sometimes he returns home with deep wounds and he would remain indoors for weeks before going out again after recovering.

At times I wonder how this dog always escape this attacks without getting caught even our neighbor's dog was killed just moment spotting her and Pedro only to see Pedro return, my neighbor's dog has remained history since then.

This dog can climb fence for Africa and I don't know if that's the advantage he has over other dogs who are victims Lols...

We have tried stopping Pedro from going out but he keeps using the fence as an escape route and Pedro doesn't like chains so we barely use them.

Why I said Pedro doesn't behalf like our said local dogs, he understands basic commands and he eats what we eat, if we eat rice for instant and you serve Pedro swallow he wouldn't touch that food until you serve him his own portion of the rice.

Pedro can never do his business at home even in the compound, he cries whenever he's in chain and can't go outside to poo or urinate.

Pedro is very protective of the children in the compound, he also escort them on errands just to scare off strangers and the kids loves him too, they even share their snacks with Pedro especially my kid sister but my kid brother took after me, his love for dogs his natural.

I know I might not receive more likes or positive comments because it's a local breed but Pedro dey burst my brain with some of the loving attitude he displays, can you imagine a little girl who cried and had exact same voice of my kid sis was heard outside crying do you believe Pedro started barking and ran out of the compound using his usual route (fence) and I also followed to know if it was her but it wasn't her but he scared away the brother who was bullying his little sister and I settled both of them, calling back the boy asked him to console the sis them we(me&Pedro) both went back into the compound.

Oh! did I tell you Pedro is harmless and not a security dog, guess I'm right these few months Pedro has gone back to it's old self and he attacks fearlessly, he has attacked several people and now people are now afraid of coming into our compound. They first call out to our names to check if we are around before coming into the compound...

OP, lovely write up. Thanks for giving us a glimpse of what Pedro is like to you and your family.

Pedro is cute. Local dog or not, he is cute and seems to have a nice personality based on your description.

You just reminded me of one of my dogs, his name was also Jasper and he died too. Sorry for the dog losses you've suffered.

I hope you get to keep Pedro for a much longer time.

Thanks for the compliment and for the weight i observed that also, Pedro has loose a bit of weight, when I came back to the house seeing him this slim due to the pandemic I really got angry.

I spoke to my aunty if they have been starving him because he looks so slim unlike the way I saw him the last time and she assured me, they have been feeding him with enough portion even the rest of the family supported her claims.

Someone said it might be normal that he is losing weight because he is getting very old. Pedro doesn't look that big compared to other dogs of the same breed we had before him but honestly he has lost some flesh.

Pedro being served his meal as we dish out lunch, like I said earlier my dog doesn't eat anything else unless what the family eats.

Pedro doesn't like any form of disturbance when having his meal.

The local breed is better than foreign breeds; you can take it or leave it.

My local breed has survived attacks that would kill other smaller dogs, not once and not twice and it still managed to wag its tail when it saw me. shocked This was even in its heavily bloodied state.
It didn’t not become docile because of this, infact it is like its power increases and it has refused to back down. cool

Even if you do not get likes, it does not remove the fact that the Nigeria sherperd is on another level. All you mentioned is not new to me, I have one and of the four dogs i have had (the others are and were foreign breeds), the local stands out abegiiii. It is small but mighty, the most feared too. No one can cross my gate anyhow because of this dog.

The local breed is very wise. The annoying thing about the one I have is that it’s choosy with food. And it may be because I spoilt it a little. It’s meat or food mixed in meat water that it eats.
Better not give it food without ‘obstacles’, it will not touch it and the food will finally get spoilt.

Once it’s on leash, it will hardly poo, no matter how long you chain it except it’s chained for days which is rare.

The dog is almost excellent on leash too. Without training, it falls in step with you, looking up at you from time to time like its trying to maintain pace.

If I had my way, I would trade my other dogs (and I am talking large breeds) for original local dogs. grin grin grin. They have no stress or hassle as they are self confident by themselves.
I have no apologies or care about what people say. The dog has proved itself, so be encouraged OP.

Theres nothing bad about local dogs, people disvslue them by categorising them with guard dogs, local dogs are watch dpg with a lil bit of guard instincts making them even better than our over priced toy dogs behaviour wise

Nice one, thanks for giving that dog all the care it deserves. I guess our love for dogs made us over pamper them Lols....

We had this local breeds some years ago and this squard na die
Tiger
Jasey
Pedro the 1st

Pedro the first was very huge with large head and very well mannered too, it hardly bark but very aggressive when visitors come into the compound. He was my favorite after losing him we have to name our puppy Pedro again and that's the current Pedro.

This dogs were very aggressive, I was even afraid of entering our compound from the front gate where jasey always stays. We lost others to the hands of death except jasey who was sold by us to Calabar people living around because it became very aggressive that we had to let him go after attacking one of my uncles, who also feeds him at times because he was trying to prevent for him from attacking a visitor.

can you please drop a pix of your dog whenever you are chanced??

Local dogs can be great guard dog and I am speaking from experience, we had dogs that are very aggressive that makes every visitors afraid when coming to visit us and they were all local breeds.

I just have this desire to add a Large breed to my dog collection.
