This is purely taken out of context. In the United States, you can apply to 20 universities in one year. He was sending applications to different medical schools. His mom ask him to include John Hopkins which is one of the best in US. Thankfully, it was only the John Hopkins that gave him admission.

Take note, he spent $300,000 to go to this school. But this usually come in form of federal loan for a residence or citizen of United States
