The problem with Kogi State is the high level of illiteracy. A state with over 87% illiteracy and poverty index. It is also a common knowledge that voodoism is predominantly practiced.

punitive cost may be awarded against the applicant's counsel personally for bringing an application lacking merit, thereby wasting the time of the court.

Sorry how could that be avoided?
Since the judiciary (Court) is the only place where laws and regulations are being interpreted and applied appropriately.

Or does it mean their application wasn't back up with any evidence?

Just curious!

The coming of Yahaya Bello was to balance the system in kogi. The igalas have ruled for 16yrs and watching another igala man like Wada will spoil the pattern.
I've come to a conclusion that in Nigeria, it is not how a leader emerges that matters but it is what the leader has accomplished

2 - 1? Narrow escape definitely. Shows Y Bello is not made yet. More work to be done by Y Bello. Next to appeal court and finally supreme court where governors are finally made.
Re: Tribunal Affirms Yahaya Bello's Election by backbone503(m): 5:36pm On May 23, 2020
The Constitution and Electoral Act (as amended) makes it extremely difficult for a petitioner to win an election petition case. You only stand a chance of wining if the powers that be are behind you. Or if the defendant(s) has a very wosky legal team.

Politicians know this, and that's why they do anything/everything to be declared winner.

so long as you do not bring vexatious App, you will get a fair hearing and the app won't be thrown out.
Our court frowns on applications as that brought by the petitioner's counsel.
