May D seems to be the newest celebrity to reach out Cynthia Morgan after Peter Okoye.

The former Square Records signing was forced to open a can on worms on the things he endured while with the now defunct Psquare after a Tweep alleged he left the label over greed.

According to May D, Peter and Paul, and possibly Jude Okoye made him live with them but in the BQ of their Square Villa, alongside their cook and driver while a part of the mansion was vacant and unused.

In a bid to claim greed wasn't the reason for his fallout with the group, he also claimed he never billed them despite being a heavy influence on the album, 'Invasion', the fourth album of the now parted twin musicians group.

There seems to be a recurring pattern of exploitation with record labels in Nigeria, which is why you see some drag court issues for years with an aggrieved artist who has chosen to leave after slaving his youth away.

I don't know who needs to see this; DO NOT SIGN A RECORDING CONTRACT in a haste. It is always easier when promises of a glorious future are made and presented but the after effect can be very costly.

Artists like Wizkid and Kizz Daniel are just some of the very few who took their former labels head on and succeeded. That doesn't mean it will be the same for others.

As an upcoming act, hire a lawyer to represent you when putting pen to paper and, as much as possible, negotiate your terms before you end up as a potential Gofundme recipient.

I think you're lumping Nollywood with the Nigerian Music Industry.

While suffering and smiling applies to both, I quite get it when upcoming acts slave to get something for themselves. The grey area is in the contract signing which seems to done out of ignorance EVERY TIME.

This was the case of Kiss Daniel who was alleged to be earning a paltry N30k from his label while they, according to the contract he signed, recouped all the money spent on cars, a luxurious apartment and even clothing just to make him look good.
