Breaking: Anambra And Delta State Government Reach Agreement On Onitsha Bridgehead Barricade (Photos)

IgbereTV reports that officials of Anambra and Delta State Government met on Tuesday to agree and strategize on the barricading of Onitsha bridgehead, as part of the measures to ensure proper compliance to NCDC Protocols on partial relaxation of lockdowns due to the spread of the Coronavirus Disease.

Recall that the government of Anambra state erected iron bars to inhibit passage of non-essential service providers.

Secretary to the government of Anambra state, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu and his Delta State counterpart, Mr Chiedu Ebie including Commissioners of police of both states, as well as task force teams from both states participated in the meeting.

At the end of the meeting, the two states agreed on a number of measures including; processing points within both states, should be shifted backwards, the two states should stick to the definition of essential services provided by the presidency.

During the meeting, It was also agreed that the two states should swap personnels.

Fredrick Whizer of Julius Berger Plc who was also part of the meeting said that the Federal Controller of Works had already written a letter expressing concern over the integrity of the bridge as a result of accumulation of heavy traffic on the bridge.

Good that they reached a truce.

Anambra Govt did well, bc the Federal security positioned there were sabotaging the effort of the state Govt in combating the covid 19 spread by collecting bribe and allowing all manner of travellers into the state at Night

It doesn't matter who owns the land, Onitcha and Asaba needs each other. They should work out some sort of agreement. But the COVID thing is over dramatized. If people wear mask and stop physical contact, we will be OK.

A part of the bridge is in Onitsha while the other part in Asaba.

The Anambra state government built a barricade at the Asaba end of the bridge so the Asaba youths got angry and dismantled it. The barricade has now been installed at the Onitsha end of the bridge.

It is difficult to restrict people from moving between the two towns because a lot of people live in Onitsha while their offices and businesses are at Asaba and vice versa.
