The Cross is a Roman symbol of DEATH. They copied the ancient Egyptian Symbol (representing a penis/ Vagina and womb), symbolizing LIFE.

The cross you find in Mathew 16:24 where it says "take up his cross" is referring to an upright stake. So it should read, "take up his stake..."
Besides, we shouldn't turn any object into an object of worship.
