Oga. The naira is 387 to the dollar not 430 please. Stop defending the undefendable. DSTV makes more profit in Nigeria than any other country. What do we get in return?. Poorer content, no pay as you view as should be the norm and a marginal hike in dollar rates or VAT calls for an immediate increase? I am opting out once my current subscription ends! Enough!Startimes here I come!

There is no such thing as pay per view...in Nigeria, in South Africa or any other African country

I personally 'divorced' DSTV and Gotv years ago. I use Free-to-air both in my home and office. Free-to-air gives me over 600 channels including most of the channels DSTV and GOtv offer, so why should I throw away thousands of Naira every Month when I spent less than 20k on the Free-to-air?

Why can't NCC stop DSTV/GoTv from cheating Nigerians?

We've said it times without number that the South African company should embrace "Pay as you go" system of billing just like it is in SA and other sane climes.

Why increase tariff when people hardly get value for the money they pay. This rubbish has to stop.

As for me, I won't blame dstv as they about to increase their subscription. 1. The government doesn't care about the wellbeing of her citizens. 2. The Tax government put on this people are unbearable, 3. Our government doesn't have the guts to exploit, because, how will you call yourself or country a giant of African and all u could do is to always depend on other countries to always provide sort of means for you, because I do think what these people has been doing since 1960. Nothing in particular we can point to as an achievement.

A common Nigeria using Gotv can't even enjoy it without a Generator, because of poor electricity, one will be baffling with how to subscribe and in the other hand, how to fuel your generator, we are just fishing money for another country with our daily sweat, Baba Fela called it, suffering and Smiles.

Truth is this dstv is a rip off and we Nigerians are the cause. We overhype things and don't encourage competition with our consumption pattern. O remember few yrs ago I brought a babe to my crib on a weekend, she saw me watching startimes and was like why would a big boy like me be using startimes. I looked at her and pointed to over 3 different decoders I have and my dstv and startimes dish outside. I simply told her that I stopped USI dstv cos I wasn't getting value for the money I was paying. My friend an hotel manager once told me how they lost patronage in a month when they decided to subscribe startimes during world cup. The same world cup that startimes was airing guest were still complaining that they LL prefer to watch on supersports. In Nigeria, we always like to jump on bandwagon and that's why u see dstv taking advantage. After all this noise most ppl will still renew subscription.

It is a big shame to some of the Nigeria billionaires who will instead spend their money on having private jet(s).....instead of investing on what will promote dia personal image and our own country image and the masses benefits.
If Dstv can not increase dia tariff plans it is left for them.
After all they know we don't have a good government that can fight or challenge them.

Pay as you can never come to fruition...

These people bribe the presidency.. The national assembly... And there is nothing Nigerians can do about it... Because the youths are useless..

Very very true...The youths are busy uploading pictures on Facebook, instagram, social media and also exchanging insults across tribes. Useless generation whose priorities have no meaning!!!

They bribe the presidency and the NA according to you but youth are the useless one? Are you okay at all? What power do you think the youth have? Protest? Do that solve anything in Nigeria?
In case you didn't know, youth in USA or UK are not responsible for the easy life they have there, they simply have responsible governments over the years.

No, that's the montly prices for the packages in Kenya. Yes, it is like Nigeria.

South Africa has a similar packages system to Nigeria, and for 2020, they pay, on the average N1000 more than Nigeria.

I don't think we can bring in pay as you go for Nigeria...plus, as someone has said upthread, pay as you go is not necessarily cheaper.

(Note...A pay as you go system would 'in principle' have you pay for the number of hours you use to watch TV. I doubt any African country has the infrastructure for that kind of monitoring).

P.S Off topic, but in addition to South Africans paying for DSTV, they also pay tv licence fees. which is N5085 (265 rand) per annum

Too many illiterates in the land. The federal government imposed VAT payment on all DSTV subscriptions. How can a reasonable human being blame DSTV for that.

The best they can do is create a hashtag to protest their grievance. Meanwhile these guys have offices they can peacefully go to and protest or mobilise themselves and demand a meeting with NCC or something.

LIES!

The best thing to do is stop patronising DSTV. it is that simple, use your money elsewhere. Why do you think you have the right to dictate for a company how to price her services? If you don't like it, stop patronising them. I don't understand Nigerians, it is simple economics. Look at the vast majority of the comments, people who failed economics in secondary school. Nonsense!

Yes, too many stoopid and nonsensical people these days. Can you imagine these comments, telling a company that she cannot increase prices as she deems fit? Years of being fed through the bottle has destroyed the thinking of the vast majority of Nigerians.

@Everyone who thinks she can dictate to DSTV on how and what to price her services, try elsewhere! YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO DICTATE TO A COMPANY HOW TO PRICE HER SERVICES. IT IS THE FREE MARKET!

Re: Nigerians Groan, Protest DSTV/GOTV Tariff Increase by Reference(m): 9:30am On May 31, 2020
Cost is not the issue. Value for money is. And the best way to determine that is competition. This is where governments all over the world step in. To ensure there are no monopolies. One player on the court, one team on the pitch is not a game or match so cannot be regulated or umpired as it were.

Nigerians should charge their government to stimulate more private sector participation in the international sattelite briadcasting industry. If we don't do that Multichoice will have a free ride forever. Once again, a nation that doesn't produce stuff cannot dictate uts standard of living.

Na until this people put tariff at 1million before a serious Nigerian will invest thoroughly in this lucrative goldmine.

If not for Globacom, other telecom operators would still be charging calls per minute, and people would still be making calls outside.
