You have no chill. I don't think Nigerians care whether its Zuma, Ramaphosa or De Klerk that built these. Neither do I - I'm just glad we have quality institutions for our people.

No excuses this time. The new Mpumalanga and Sol Plaatjie universities are built by the black government. And still no Nigerian institution can come close, even their best ones.

University of Mpumalanga is based in the serene city of Mbombela (Mpumalanga Province). The name of the province translates to "Place of the Rising Sun" and has a population of about 4.5 million. The University is in close proximity to the world-famous Kruger National Park. It currently caters for less than 500 students with plans for expansion.

grin grin nice stories, Zuma looted the country ,yet white men like rupert & openhemeirs ended up being the rich ones? grin. Who do you think you're talking to here boy ,one of the dumb minions who never ask you any sensible questions? grin.

1. Show me any transactions or contracts implicating Zuma in looting? Does he have any business with the state, if so please show me which SOE? grin
2. Show me anything Ramaphosa has done so far besides selling SOE to white men .?. He said the state capture would prove Zuma's looting,& guess what ? grin not one damn person has come forward to point us in the right direction, we have spent close to a billion now trying to find if a former president stole angry. How dumb is that, why not go through company transactions & nab him so that we can move forward ?
3. The NPA claimed zum would go to jail for his "crimes " referring to the arms deal ,why not investigate the crimes under his administration? grin state capture I believe that's what Robin renwick calls it grin grin.

Show us Ramaphosa's achievements so far, unemployment is worse than under Zuma. No transformation is taking place in key sectors & government institutions. I could go on grin grin

The same "media " that claims Zuma looted the county dry ,is now claiming he has no money grin grin

Re: Two New State Universities In South Africa (PICS) by onegig(m):
The buildings are beautiful but it's not like they are "out of the world" when compared to Nigerian University buildings except for the designs and how they accommodate nature to build the enticing structures. Unilorin has a flowing River and Dam. Instead of building stuctures to explore this natural asthetics. We run away from them or sandfill water bodies, cut down trees. Only OAU did a bit of this and that was like 50 years back.

The biggest problems of modern day Nigerian architecture is we use way too much block.

Like almost all buildings explore the use of cement based blocks for construction. Our architects don't like to explore the use of space or make use of other materials like glass, clay and wood to bring out beautiful structures.

Yes it may cost you extra and may need regular maintenance which we lack but they are lots of durable materials out there especially clay and iron that can be forged to make beautiful pieces.

Just slam a pillar down and start building blocks is what we know how best to do. Can't blame them, you get what you pay for. We believe glass is only for window silt and this is evident in most public structures and personal houses constructed.

If you didn't have the means i can understand but i sometimes feel irritated when i see people post pictures of so called multi million naira buildings of some celebrities and it's just a mold of block with a roof. Nothing special and the asthetic feels like a prison with the high walls and what not.

UNIVERSITY OF IBADAN lost its Glory long ago.
UI happens to be a University that entertained a lot of Africans and Europeans, including the Saudis.
But see where it is today....

Imagine what would have become of NIGERIA if the WHITES had stayed back and run this country till 1995...
Imagine the Edifice we would have been proud of.
As usual our IMPATIENCE subdued us and we sought for INDEPENDENCE to early thinking say we don get sense, now see where we are today.
ORDINARY UNITY we can't achieve.
To Govern ourselves has become a Herculean Task.

Nothing to show since 1960 except DECADENCE.
We think it's about having CRUDE OIL...
What's the use of Crude Oil without Common Sense

NONSENSE...

Hi. I truly have no idea. Check out the South Africa Visa thread in the Travel section. There's a lot of helpful people there.

But I would think if you studied for a critical skill then your chances will be great.

1. A contract that Zuma has with any state owned company .
2. Any transaction linking him to any looting of the state .

If you can do this ,I will apologise to you & your compatriots here. Infact,I will delete my profile on nairaland.

You can ask the Prosecuting Authority for the documents. They're the ones dragging his ass to court. No smoke without fire.

It's the smallest with 500 because it's new - so they have limited courses. They are planning to expand with time.

Anyway, here's the capacity of SA public universities. You can do the maths - 1,000,000 divided by 26 equals an average of 36,000 for each university.
the federal university in my state has a capacity of 75,000 student.

grin grin you mean the NPA who wanted to postpone because they claim they now dont have enough evidence ? grin grin. Mind you ,the arms deal case is over 20 years old, are you telling me a case of fraud takes over ten years to investigate, not just any fraud but government contracts ? grin. Another point; Zuma was not the president of SA at that time, the darling Mbeki was grin grin. Zuma applied to the courts & asked them to start ,why are they twerking ? grin.
And why is the NPA not dragging his arse to court for the looting that you claim took place during his administration? cheesy. How difficult would it be to simple go through the state records & SARS & expose him ? wink

So is your argument that Nigeria can't build or maintain quality universities because the student population is larger than that of SA?

The University of South Africa has over 400,000 students and I doubt any of it's various campuses is as big as UNIBEN.

The landmass of a university doesn't necessarily equate to the number of students it can support.

Our culture and security play a role in our preferences. Many people wouldn't want their privacy out there and people rarely mind their business. Even homes with large windows to let in natural light are often obscured with huge curtains.

If Nigerian universities were any good they would have taught you that black South Africans were denied quality education for over 350 years. It was the law. It was only in the last 25 years since democracy in 1994 that they could get into any university they chose and study degrees of their choice. And now they are giving Nigerians a run for their money as well as outsmarting you at the African Union level.

I understand personal homes but we have all these busy bodies everywhere and world over people want their privacy but public buildings, schools? Libraries, banking halls? Even buildings on enclosed streets?

And the fallacy of blocks fending off robbery is absolute fallacy. Your house is as safe as the security in the neighborhood. No matter the height of the fence the only thing you can do to protect it is maybe put in deterrents like cameras, electric safety wiring on top of fencess etc, but those are even useless in some scenarios.
