You are right @ Whyna. I have been able to send tens of CVs and received a few responses. At the moment a university I sent my documents to had accepted me but are asking for a short introductory video on my education and work experience.

I am hoping to do one tomorrow after pushing off some pressing assignments today.

At Whyna you have not been able to reply my email. But I am still grateful and content with what you are doing here. Thanks

This is great bro. Keep making progress. E go click.

Good morning bro, please did you apply with just your naija certificates without those their celta and the rest certificates? Please I am asking cos I am also interested in migrating to Vietnam. I have a very good experience in teaching especially in areas like phonetics, reading and writing.

Actually, the organization is a University and they are looking for lecturers. They did not specify TEFL, and CELTA but mentioned a Master's degree in English and above. They also specifically stated they needed native and non native English lecturers.

But the bottom line is that you need a TEFL or some other English teaching certification to be able to teach English in Vietnam. If you are able to get a school or organization willing to take you and then arrange for you to get CELTA/TEFL or TESOL, it's all beautiful. But it's not easy from what I am seeing.

Note: From what I am seeing, it might take till last quarter before the Viets will open their doors to the world. So why not as part of your preparation begin the online program? And please ensure that the certificate you are given after the program does not indicate the mode, that is online.

We are all striving towards the fulfilment of our travel dreams and I pray God grant us good speed! If I make any progress be sure I will report it here for everyone's benefit.

Well done!

Try and get the TEFL, after that, I'm confident they will take you 80%. You have a very good profile. The other 20 is probably based on your demo or online interview or intro or teaching video.

Good luck bro. Remember to negotiate big when the time comes

Hmmm to everyone jumping on a train and traveling to teach in South East Asia I will advise caution and pls try as much as possible that in addition to getting all your certificates in English, you also make an effort to learn the local language and understand their local culture... I have dozens of colleagues teaching in Vietnam, personally for me I taught in Thailand for 4 years from high schools straight up to the university level.
When you are dealing with people from this region be prepared to see things and actions you wouldn't understand especially if you are coming straight outta Nigeria.. First thing you will notice is you will be significantly paid less than your white colleagues (and some people will think no problem with this as they are still going to be paid right?) You will find yourself doing more or even expected to do more while earning far less than a white person teaching English with a French accent. Why?? Because they are white and in Asian culture nothing signifies class for parents like seeing their kids learning English from a white man.. The Visa rule in these countries change constantly without notification of any type, and trust me when it comes to sorting out your visa you are on your own as employers usually feign ignorance of the immigration systemAfter all that you still have to deal with casual racism on a daily basis and by the time you calculate your monthly income and expenses you will realize you are better off starting a better business back home... So I'm not discouraging anybody all I'm preaching is to be careful and aware of where you are traveling to... It definitely isn't some Utopia... In fact this is a path I will encourage for a lot of Nigerians as we are more than capable of being educators in these countries.. just don't think of it as a long term career path cos they can change their rules on you anytime in these countries and given how poor they are when it comes to human right don't expect to have things your way.. peace

I must commend the OP for bringing this thread up and consistently updating it. I’ll also like to appreciate everyone who has posted comments here. God bless and crown all our efforts and endeavors with success.

I have been greatly inspired after reading the thread from page one up till this last one.

I’m already in the process of signing up for an online TEFL program as my schedule will not permit me to attend any in-person training. In fact, I intend paying this coming week.

I’ll appreciate candid opinions from gurus here.

What are my chances of securing a job abroad after this program.

NB: I have a BSc and teaching experience.

Pls reply.

From my experience when it comes to obtaining the cert they might prefer the "in person class" to online ones but if you got the online one from a very reputable online school then it's all good... You might need a video demonstration of you teaching in front of a class and an introductory video proving why you are the best man for the job. It will help to know how to greet in the local language and a little of the culture. After that say your prayers and rest assured in a few weeks time they are calling you to come as quick as you can. Make sure to have an idea of the salary they are willing to offer and compare with cost of living in the particular city.

kudos to you @Whyna, you've done well& am inspired! Pls, what's d fate of I.T faithfuls in Vietnam? You said something about 'proof' b4 som1 can receive/deposit funds. Are there any exemptions for freelancers whom gets most of their pay online and abroad?

I think bank policies differ and you can ask questions before banking with them.

Also, I never said you need proof to receive money. Just to deposit and there are ways around this.

My brother you dey vex oh lol. He was just joking sha and I believe he has gotten the correction.

Please @all, beyond fun let's take this Vietnam seriously, if Nigeria never tire you guys e don tire me. @Whyna has wet our mouth very well. Please let's keep researching and saving money. Personally I have given myself this year and at most next year to be in vietnam by God's grace. From what @Whyna told us and from my personal research, 2m is The target amount we need to be there and have some change to at least last for month plus before we get a job.

Let's focus our questions to her on our findings that is confusing. Let's not repeat questions she has answered already and let's not ask her unnecessary questions. Remember she has not stayed up to a year there so she needs time to hustle hard, have some good savings and be more relaxed.

Let's know too that we will still need her assistance when we get there, whether we go through Agent or a TEFL school.

Above all, las las we go dey ok. Udo diri unu.

Oil dey your head bro.. that's the bench mark i have given my self, next year at most. She already mentioned it earlier that 2mil will be enough when i asked her and since then i just dey on low dey hustle for money. Don't wanna keep fantasizing on travelling anymore as i believe once the money is ready, the dreams becomes real. It all boils down to OKPO lol... we can work together by sharing infos bro one love.

@Millionstars you are right. But have you ever been inspired by other people's dreams?

Well I have. Don't go back again, let's concentrate on the task ahead, okay.

@ House, I was eventually able to send the introductory video as requested by the institution yesterday afternoon. But the way is still far from the dream, so I'll keep pushing relentlessly. Will update if anything positive comes up as promised earlier.

Modified:

Dear Mr. C....... G....n,

The video was well received and I will inform you if you're qualified for the next phase of hiring process. Thank you.

Regards,

Above is the response I received from the Institution. Meanwhile my chaplet is in the water; praying and waiting phase.

I am in need of your prayers ooo @house!
