There are too many quack AC technicians all around town across Nigeria. My 2011 Toyota Corolla was working perfectly well until I had a bursted high pressure discharge hose, probably expired.

I began to experience one problem after the other with my car AC system after I took my car to one AC technician in port Harcourt.

Since I had to recharge my AC system after replacing a bursted high pressure discharge hose. I asked the AC technician to vacuum my AC system before recharging but he said there was no need. So the AC technician never vacuum my AC system before filling the system with new refrigerant and oil

The following day after this AC refilling, my AC that usually kicks in immediately to blow cold air began to delay for like 30-45 secs before blowing cold air.

As time goes on, this graduate to AC not blowing cold air until I put off and on the AC switch button.

Furthermore, as time goes on, the AC no more respond to putting off and on the AC switch button. So now until I rev up the engine by pressing the acceleration pedal in neutral or park, the AC never blows cold in idle.

I guess this technician had probably put too much oil or any other oil different from the existing oil in my AC system, causing the compressor to perform poorly. How do I know if there's an excess oil in my compressor?

Also, no doubt about having air moisture in my AC system as the poor technician never pulled a vacuum on my AC system before a recharge.

Please guys where can I find a good AC technician with a vacuum pump in port Harcourt as most of all these road side AC technicians are only there to suck out our hard earned pepper...?

Sorry about your ordeal.
Bring it to my workshop, I will help you fix it.

Funny story... And you're correct about our technicians.

You might need to look for an official Toyota service center and find out if you can get your a/c system vacuumed there. Hope you get lucky.

I can pull vacuum for those in Ib.

You have blockage in the system that was why the high pressure hose got busted.
You need to replace your condenser too because some particles from the hose most have found there way into the condenser.
Any technician that is going to work on your car most check the compressor too properly.

Good morning, I noticed something on my car ac last week in the afternoon , I entered the car and switch on the control to 4 cos d car was hot due to the sun. And next thing I heard was as if a paper was stuck in the fan and making a slight noise. I later reduced to 1 and 2 but d noise reduced and was continuous. I switch off the AC and drove some few mins, I switch it on to 2 and I heard no noise. Ever since then I put the ac switch on to 2. Yesterday I mistakenly switch it on to 4 after entering the car and the noise came on again, after reducing to 1 and 2 still it persisted but noise was low and one cld hear it. What can be the cause, it's an 05 corolla and wld b a year by July, haven't done anything on the ac since it came. D noise which seems as it d fan is blowing a paper nearby seems to be coming from d dashboard area. Sir What can be done if I may ask?

You need to check the cabin filter, and also loose out the blower some particles are trapped internally.

Thanx to all that contributed to profer solutions to my AC issue. I'm delighted that I finally solved this issue by bleeding off the refrigerant and vacuuming my AC system of air and moisture.

I pulled a vacuum on the AC system for 30 mins after bleeding off the entire refrigerant. I put in new refrigerant without adding oil (technician tested my AC system for lubrication and certified oil level ok). So I did a test run for two days now and my AC system is performing exclently. No more epileptic cooling.

Compressor no more delays to kick in. It kicks in immediately after switching on the AC button and cold air starts blowing immediately. Compressor is now performing the way it should.

Lesson learnt:

Foreign substances like air, moisture, dirt e.t.c can go a long way in causing a clutchless AC compressor to malfunction and if preventive maintenance is not carried out in time, it may cause serious damage to the compressor as this compressor is super sensitive to foreign substances in an AC system.

I'm happy that I took this step on time before serious damage to my AC system components. Gracias to you all!

Hi.. pls i need clarification, my 2003 camry ac compressor was serviced and i just realized that a flat square shaped thermostat was attached to the compressor. is it normal? cos i think the compressor for 03 camry is manual that uses clutch and doesn't require the use of external thermostat.

The crazy thing was that the technician installed it without my consent, i went back to have it removed & ac is working perfectly. He thought that the compressor needed a thermostat to prevent it from working non stop to make it last longer.

Check the suction pipe going to the rear evaporator if it is cool.
If yes(check your heater control knob).
If NO (your refrigerant is low).

Check if the compressor coil is engaging, that is if it uses magnetic coil.if yes then compressor isn't compressing but you need manifold guage to check the pressure reading before anything.

Good morning Mosbus. I did a general wash on my car yesterday and the engine bay was washed too. While driving out of the carwash, I discovered my A.C stopped working . No light is blinking, the fan is blowing but not discharging refrigerant. A Toyota Matrix 2003.

I hope your engine RPM is no too low,and your car isn't misfiring.
If all those things above are intact, check the fuse and magnetic coil relay.

Thanks for the effort sir. Its been fixed already, A socket connected to the A.C hose was removed in the course of the engine wash. Infact, if I had opened the bonnet to check, I would have found it . It didn't take 2 seconds for the technician to fix it.

Yea, sucks.. but I've had the improvised thermostat removed & ac operation is back to normal. It stopped cooling after 3months though, there's no sign of leakages under the bonnet so our conclusion is to have the evaporator checked.. dashboard will have to be removed and i haven't really have the time to have it checked.

Whenever you are ready you can always bring it to the shop to find for you. You might be lucky and it takes only a can of stop-leak to fix. If it isn't you can always fix it wherever you choose.

Okay. Find ac uv dye and run it through your system. 9 out of 10 times you'll find the source of the leak.

Good morning, I drive hyundai elantra 2010 which I purchased last yr.After using for three month it stopped cooling.I changed the condenser and refilled the gas. Recently it stopped cooling and gas smell comes out from the 'Glover Box". Was told I need to change the Evapourator by removing the dashboard, how true is this and is it compulsory to remove the dashboard before it can be fixed.

Unfortunately, yes if it's the evaporator core however get a second opinion because it could be the expansion valve. The videos below show some evaporator core replacements we've done and before you let that happen, make sure it IS the evaporator core.
