The matter we will begin to settle is if some one of good repute in the state (even if na president) dies and you don't take this stance

I am from Anambra o. I welcome curbing the excess of burial but the issue of creating burial ground is rubbish o. People should bury their loved ones where they choose o.
The law isn't against people burying their loved ones at their desired place of choice... The burial ground there is for abandoned, rejected, unclaimed and unidentified corpses. I think it's there..

They have to talk about traditional and white wedding too. During traditional marriage, only the two families and not more than 10 friends outside family will attend. Pride price must not be more than N10,000. During wedding, only church members and those who come to the church will come to the reception and the reception must not be more than 50 people and food and drinks are not compulsory. I want to marry

I don't think they have the power for this decree.

Lawyers please weigh in.
It's a law, passed and assented to by the Chief Executive of the State..
What other power do they need?

A welcomed development.
This is actually a bad market for some people in the villages that depend on feeding from the family of the dead, exploiting them by pushing them into expensive burial ceremony just because they are not grounded in the culture and tradition of the town. A case of people born and raised out side their home towns. Some even sell properties like lands to source money for all that.
Except for the death of a person that lived a very long life and has rich descendants that wants to celebrate, the key thing is bury the dead and pray for the peaceful repose of their souls.

THIS IS STORY FOR THE GODS, AND AS ALWAYS THE LAWS WOULD BE FOR THE POOR.
SO IF
ARTHUR EZE'S,
VINCENT OBIANODO'S,
UBAH'S,
INNOSON'S,
UMENYIORA'S,
DOZZY'S
OKEKE'S and SEA HORSE....etc
JUST TO MENTION A FEW
IF THERE PEOPLE ARE DECEASED AND TO BE BURIED, THIS SO CALLED LAWS CAN NEVER BE APPLIED TO THEM.
There are fines and penalties for contravention of the law..
If you are too rich and you are ready to pay for the financial implications of disregard for the law, then you should not have any problems..

The Constitution...

Any laws contrary to the constitution are null and void.

Do they have the power to do this under the constitution?

Is this how low and bad official reasoning has descended to in Anambra? What are the uses of laws that are not worth the pieces of papers they were scribbled on? This ogogoro seeping governor and his rubber-stamp legislature are a laughing stock now, sorry.

Nawa o. One can't even spend his own money. While it's logical it still rubs off as very weird.

Very very eurocentric. Extremely eurocentric.

I support the law
Why will someone spend almost a million on burial when you are owing school fees for your children
Respect the dead does'nt mean you should kill yourself over burial

This thread reminds me of what happened when I buried my late father in 2009,I have been saving money to change my old opel Omega to a Singapore used Toyota Camry xle thiny light with full options at #550k in onitsha,I have already test driven the car and will pay next day, when my father died suddenly from cardiac arrest in the evening, that's how the car was left and I ended up spending almost #1.5 million for the burial and didn't change that opel Omega for another 2 years.

when the person is alive, no one in the community will show care but when the person dies every one wants to eat and run down the family finance via expensive burial
