The House of Representatives has voted against a prayer seeking to recommend castration for rapists.

The House, at the plenary on Thursday, considered and adopted a motion on the rising cases of sexual violence in Nigeria.

A member, Mr James Faleke, had recommended that persons found guilty of rape should be castrated.

Just before the prayer was subjected to a voice vote, the Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, however, asked what would happen to an older female who rapes a younger male.

The comment generated noise in the chamber, The PUNCH reports.

Putting the prayer to vote, the nays had it.

Whoever that suggested castration for a rape case is mad .

I heard a woman threatening her Ex Lover some days back that "I go show you Wetin I take be woman." because he dumped her for another girl .

Such woman with a mindset as that could falsely accuse the guy of rape just to punish him .

Castration is well in order. It will make many think twice.

For ladies who rape men, sealing up their vaginas surgically is also apt punishment.

I'm also concerned about those who would be falsely accused out of envy. We know how easy it is to get false witnesses once you have some wads to throw around.

I believe there's already a punishment (prison) in place for rapists. The only thing that needs to be done is enforcement, not all these unrealistic punishment like castration or death sentence.

If we X-ray our society, rapists are found among both genders, not men alone.
