Take him to a reputable hospital and run kidney and liver tests...the results will change his life forever...it worked for me

Since he is not ready to stop, little can be done for him cos even if he's taken to a rehabilitation center or so, it might be against his rights as a human being, drinking alcohol is not illegal in Nigeria. He can only be 'helped' to stop drinking if and only if he is ready to stop

Even in common law, when a person is of unsound mind(which you clearly allude to in his actions), others can assume control over decisions to be taken in his/her interest. Anyone with a track-record of substance-abuse resulting in behaviour that can be harmful to him or the public can be compelled even against his wish to rehabilitation.

Go to any FMC with a focus on mental height, you'll get the assistance you need there

There is a plant called Ibogaine that is native to Africa Ibogaine used in the treatment of substance addictions. Do some research to find some or find a place that will help you get some for your brother.

Op didn't state that his behavior is harmful to people around him, he only said he doesn't have a job and is not married which, technically isn't harmful and isn't illegal in Nigeria. Best luck to the op.

There is more to what you see. Your brother cannot help himself. It seems someone cast a spell on him "efulefu spell" is there anyone you guys had issues with around the time this behavior started? Ask your parents and let me know. We take it up from there.

Why not arrange to see a psychologist instead? There could be an underlying issue that need be fixed. That said, I feel you guys are more worried about him being an embarrassment more but if the underlying issue isn't dealt with, it might relapse.

I am not trying to discourage you but for him to be forty and still in this mess shows that he may remain so for the rest of his life

I wish you guys can afford to go to psychiatric hospital in Yaba and make enquiries on how and what it will take to rehabilitate him

But in the absence of that, he may commit a crime that will keep him in jail and he will be off it

His joblessness and single life at his age could be the cause of the frustration that led to his drunkenness.

He won't be drunk 24/7, there will be time to sleep and he feels normal again immediately he wakes up. Meet him at that point, sit him down and have a heart to heart discussion with him.
If there's a way you can provide a job for him, pls do. Link him also to a girl in the village for marriage. His case is not totally useless, except it's spiritual....and even at that, there's no situation God can't change.

I have a cousin who is a graduate and almost 40. Since he lost his job some years back and he tried searching for another and couldn't find, he took to drinking and smoking. He's not married yet. He takes care of himself though.....like bathing, dressing well, and he speaks very good English too. He doesn't get drunk.

Most times, it's a person's situation that pushes the person into some dangerous lifestyle. Anytime I try to talk to him about the lifestyle, he tells me he wants death to take him....he's tired of the world.


So If you still insist on a rehab, we have rehabilitation centers in Lagos, I don't know of your state. Could give you their info if you want.

Personally I think this your cousin's own is very much better. In fact his case could change in a day because he is educated and enlightened. With the right connection he could get a good job,settled down. In fact he should try to be self employed. You cant compare his case with an uneducated villager with no vision and self worth.
Advice your cousin to acquire skills he can use to earn a living online especially. Education is always an edge.

I get one family member like that. He drink like fish, chase one fiancee out and can waste whole wage on alcohol
