The first App I’m going to share with you is:
Google: Everybody knows and uses it; but the question is, do you understand and appreciate what Google is? You see, growing up in my little town, I usually visited the Cyber café in order to buy cheap browsing time; which is usually overnight because, the internet wasn’t as common then as it is today.
I’d spend some quality time at the cyber café at night, simply reading and learning from Google. I loved it, and I appreciate it.
Now I’ll ask you; what’s the foundation of education?
Very simple! The foundation of education is neither the uniform that we wear to school, nor is it the tests, or the degree we get. The foundation of education is INFORMATION! Nothing more or less.
If I can get enough information about my field—be it medicine, or law, or engineering, or accounting—I can get an education about that field.
Google gives you valuable information without you having to pay an unreasonable amount of money to get it.
Google literally changed my life because, through that simple app, I’ve been able to learn valuable things that have been the architect of my success in life.
I’m very sure you’ve got a Google app or browser in your phone; but what I’m not sure of is what you’re using it for; I’m not sure whether you’re using it for information, or for entertainment.
Take my word; assuredly, Google-set gives to us what no university can.
The second free app—more important than a university degree—is;
YouTube. I’m one of the few individuals who are not in the band wagon of the pet-dogma that YouTube is a social media. I don’t believe the YouTube is a social media. What is the definition of social media? Is anything social-media because our definition says so?
Well, like I said, to me, YouTube is not a social-media, but a university—and even worth more than any university you can think of.
Listen to this; YouTube has a crazy algorithm which studies what content you consume on in it.
Let’s take for instance; you come to YouTube everyday to watch funny videos, YouTube will bring your way more funny videos.
If it’s entertainment videos you come to YouTube to watch, you’ll get more of it.
But let’s say you consume educational videos in any field—be it history or law or sciences or arts—whenever you log into your YouTube app, you’re bound to see more videos in that field coming your way.
This simply makes the YouTube one of the most valuable libraries in the history of mankind.
The last app I’m going to share with you is;
Podcast. Some many years back, I read a piece from Brian Tracy saying, “If you listen to audio-training programs in your car, you can consume the equivalent of the university degree information in 2 years.” Fortunately for us, we mustn’t be in the car to listen to podcast anymore.
With just a simple app on your phone, you can learn wonderful things that’ll alter your life for good.
Now, do I honestly think that the three apps mentioned in this article are more valuable than any university degree? Here’s a way I’m going to answer that question.
First off, I’m going to ask you, what’s education? As far as I’m concerned, education is all about information and practice.
If I can get an education about my field—no matter what source I get it from—and if I can practice what I learn, I can do anything in that field.
If you’re in agreement with me that information is the foundation of education, then you should also agree with me that information has been democratic.
If—in the 21st century—you absolutely think or believe that you need to go to a university to learn how to be a sales person; learn how to be a writer, or even a software engineer, an inventor or an entrepreneur; well, I don’t know what exactly you know!
Because our society today has placed so much premium on the school system, as well as getting the university degree, I know so many people won’t be in total support of the opinion shared in this post.
But get it right, I’m not in any way speaking against education—which is what we go to school to get (as claimed); but my submission is quite simple, take away the trophy—the degree—from the university, and I bet you so many people won’t find themselves going to school to learn.
The main reason the internet exists is to make things and life very easy; and if that is true, the internet has equally done a great job at making knowledge easy and affordable in this time and age. 19 Likes 2 Shares |
