Abiola's Family Urges FG To Recognize Him As Ex-President by jarawa: 6:05am On Jun 13, 2020
The Abiola family in Abeokuta, Ogun State yesterday demanded an official recognition of late Chief M.K.O Abiola as a former president of Nigeria. The head of the family, Chief Olanrewaju Abiola, made the demand on President Muhammadu Buhari at the family house in Abeokuta. What The late M.K.O Abiola was believed to have won the June 12, 1993 presidential elections. Abiola said the recognition had become necessary for Nigerian leaders to rule in peace.

He commended Buhari for conferring a posthumus highest national honour of the Grand Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (GCFR) on late Abiola and recognising June 12 as Nigeria’s authentic Democracy Day.

He urged the president to actualise the mandate that Nigerians gave to his late junior brother, Moshood, on June 12, 1993, by conferring an official status of an ex-president of the nation on him. Abiola also demanded that all the entitlements that should have accrued to his late brother from 1993 to date should be fully paid to the family. He called on Buhari to liaise with the National Assembly to debate the issue and subsequently pass it as a law.

“On June 12, last year when I spoke with the president, he said he had given him the honour, but we want it in black and white. Let the members of the National Assembly debate it and pass it into law. “Moshood was the bread winner of the family and since his death, the family members have been suffering,” he said. (NAN)

Last time I checked, The federal government is not a charity organisation.
He might have won the election but he wasn't sworn in, meaning he wasn't a president.

truthfully, M K O Abiola deserved to be recognized as former President of Nigeria.

If Abacha , with his brutality and authoritarianism , can be regarded as former Nigerian leader . There is nothing wrong for Abiola to have the same treatment.

Moreover , Abiola has been honoured with highest recognition in Nigeria which is only awarded to President and former president ( GCFR)

No beef..this is the simple truth. You were not sworn in,in any nations of the world it takes swearing in to be a president of that nation and that did not happen to Abiola.

The FG have already declared a day for you guyz and tagged it as Democracy day, even though we know the actual Democracy day is May 29, so pls don't push it.

If you are given a hand shake don't take an arm shake.

That's how you guyz will wake up tomorrow and say Nigeria/Nigerians should just install his son as the president without election as a way to honour Abiola ..imagine who does that, enough of Abiola issue is high time we face important issues bothering the living.

No be only ex-President, na ex Pressman.

He was a coupist, and a chief coup sponsorer who got played by his fellow goons.

They simply used and dumped him as usual, and as karma is want to do.

Na one of him coup sponsoring beneficiaries dey in power now dem no even send am and him memory.

Tinubu own dey come. They were even magnanimous enough to have allowed MKO contest but were very quick to realize their mistake hence the sharp sharp annulment when it dawned on them. But this present oga? Him no go even smell the ruling party primaries.

They can conveniently and confidently turn history on it's head to deceive kids born from 1998 upwards, not agbalagbas like us wey listen to plenty " pellow Naijeriyans" with transistor radios.

Was it not just yesterday we read how his son Jamiu opined that his father had the same vision and programs as this present government?

If I were to be one of the children, I would rather work towards becoming the said president rather than telling FG to give title to the dead. But who knows may be the children are his blood because I don't trust those most elite wives.

In the late 80's to early 90's, I never fancied this MKO until around 92 when I began to evaluate his effort and gestures towards others, I came to realised he was not just a generous man but a true lover of others. Therefore I have no choice that to support his presidential ambition as demonstrated by the vote of others who also belived in him and my single vote which was actually the last time I voted. This man was denied his right by the Ibb junta after he aborted the rolling out official compilation of the result in the face of a overwhelming win by MKO..... It was actually a daylight robbery that ignited the hidden anger in majority of Nigerians..... I was almost becoming a casualty when a tear gas narrowly miss my head in ibadan.
....... Only for someone who was never a supporter of MKO from the onset, probably one of those that gave support to the annulment (OBJ) was last later scripted to become the overall beneficiary of the June 12 struggles.....
Southwest states in the beginning of this 4th Republic gave due recognition to June 12 but OBJ refused...... Until Jonathan came up..... Now pmb did better on that but I still belived nothing stop Nigeria from recognising MKO as an ex president.... He truly died for the sake of Nigeria and for Nigerians. And let me add, only the name of MKO will be mostly remembered for centuries when the future generations begin to discuss what happened in Nigeria between 1980—1999. Leave it or take it, forget his ills, that singular act made him an Hero than other Awo, Zik, Balewa, etc.

Rest in peace MKO

I pray that the daylight robbery going on in Nigeria will stop soon :

Coup plotters are more recognised than those that work their way to the top,

Illegally rich people oppressing the middle class who work legally,

Thief becoming owner and owner getting punished,...

God heal your land

Am simply quoting you cos of the bolded cos there is no truth in what you are saying, the fact that a child was the most intelligent student in a particular class is not a necessary/sufficient condition to promote him to another level if he did not sit for the promotional exam is unheard-of.

In saner climes, he was not supposed to be honored with the Grand Commander of the Federal Republic (GCFR), but we let that slide for Peace sake. So weather Abacha was bad, brutal or whatever the truth here is that he was once a president and that cannot be swept under the carpet even at death. So including this in your write up was very unnecessary.
