Bro u speak my mind .... U see these guys complaining .... They will also complain when fed govt increase schl fees .... Dem dey compare schl wen student dey pay block....How can u compare a South African Uni to Nigeria wen u can't and won't pay Even 500k as schl fees..

Pay 100k una go dey complain.... Buh u masturbate wen u see schls abroad forgetting u pay millions as schl fees....If u want quality education u pay quality money for it... tongue

kikero:

Okay, note that all those beautiful universities abroad with nice buildings, their students pay fees in the region of N3 million and above.

Here in Nigeria, university fees are kept as low as N50000 or less for government universites. Some manage to charge N300000. South Africa that you are admiring, the cheapest fees for unviersity there is equivalent to N850000 naira. Ghana pays between 1.3 million to 4.7million naira (that's for the University of Ghana)

Attempts to increase fees in Nigeria are always met with resistance. ASUU spent several years fighting for an extra N3 trillion promised, yet you people told them to go and sit down.

You can't get N5million worth from just N50000. If you want nice bulidings in your universites, then allow government to INCREASE THE FEES. And stop all this talk about poverty. University needs money. If you want nice buildings, pay for it.

Re: Nile University Of Nigeria In Pictures by Amya(f): 10:39pm On Jun 12, 2020
Nigerians love to to look down and thumb their nose down at everything Nigerian. They fail to really understand that the almost free tertiary education we enjoy can hardly be gotten anywhere in the world. In the US for example, only people whose parents are very rich, people who are high performers in academic/sports and those ready to be saddled with student loans ( which take years to payoff) get to go beyond high-school level.

I went to a federal University and studied law and for my entire 5 yrs in the university, my tuition fee totalled to just 56k. This same benefit is being enjoyed by millions of people, yet we complain.

I believed I got a quality education irregardless of my school's infrastructure. I believe I can go toe to toe with any lawyer in any part of the world. All from just 56k.

At the end of the day, while infrastructure is important, the most important in my opinion is the transfer of knowledge, and I believe we're doing that in our universities.

All that glitters is not gold. In Nigeria just because a University has fine building, does not make it good!

You can have fine buildings, good lecturers, but rubbish lazy entitled students, where the knowledge comes in one ear and out the next, but they remember popular songs and dance moves!!

It is the quality of the students a school attracts, and the the quality of the graduates it produces that determines it's success!

Don't compare the fee like an exchange. Nigeria money is devalued hope you know that. If you must know now Nigeria money is lesser than Ghanaian Cedi=66.81 naira(I ghana cedi) while the Rand is just 22.76 naira. So don't say that fees must be Increased. How much does Esut, COOU,AAU,ABSU etc. Quite high you must know.
Don't defend Nigerian govt and education board Instead ask for more checks and prosecutions. There you are talking about 50000 fees. In millions you are talking about in Naira but in Cedis 7000-10000. So be factual

Nigerians keep making this mistake. How many times are people going to explain the currency issues of Ghana on this platform. Purchasing power is what matters. Ghana money is simply mechanical calibration. According to the exchange rate you gave, 1 cedi will buy 5 sachets of pure water. 66.81 naira will buy 6 sachets of pure water. You should know the difference now

Thank you.

because Ghana pays 20% VAT on all items and petrol is not subsidized buh rather taxed to fund social interventions such as free national health insurance scheme which covers every citizen including foreigners, free compulsory education from primary to secondary schools including free boarding qnd national school feeding program for all students and other social programs thus averagely things in Ghana will be slightly expensive than that in Nigeria than in Ghana, smuggling hardly works in Ghana so all imported stuffs pass through the ports and the port tarrifs are not cheap so automatically it will affect prices of goods aside that 1 cedis will always be 67 naira and it's a fact that if you send 1 cedis to Nigeria you get 67 naira, buh Nigerians guys hardly even pay the right taxes.1 dollar will buy very little in America buh can do a lot in Nigeria too.

1. Like, yeah....10000 cedis =670,482 naira.

2.Meanwhile Nigerian universites charge 50000-100000 naira on average. That's like 75-150 cedis.

3.If Ghanaian universites were on 150 cedis from their students, they would look awful

4.You can live in denial, but your comment has proved my point. Ghanian universites look nice because they charge more than Nigerian universites.

5.Let's even talk about taxes. Nigeria's tax to gdp ratio is 5.8. Ghana's tax to GDP ratio is 14.7. South Africa's tax to gdp ratio is 28. That's why both countries have higher tax reveues, and thus more money to spend on education

6.And for heaven's sake, stop accusing me of supporting or defending the government. Which defence?? Isn't it proof that in additon to icnreasing fees, government needs to do some things like changing the way the economy is run? Like stopping looting.

Education is not cheap. I'm sorry, but that's the truth, and I don't like it.

Good points made .

But eventually, the lack of quality infrastructure is going to tell on that 'good education'...to the point that something has to be done...and in my opinion, that means fees increase, or tax increases, or we keep on taking IMF loans .
