The truth is that there is no course that is good or bad. Iv seen Doctors who cant meet up with their mates and lawyers who have nothing to show for it. It is all left to you what you do with yourself after school.
I studied Animal Science and also did my masters in it. I currently earn over 250k monthly from my job and other side gigs but i still complain like most Nigerians do. At the end its all about how to increase your capacity to earn and your network.
Just for your information, if you work with the Federal Ministry of Agric you will earn a little over 100k as a fresh graduate of Animal Science

Lol it's actually good in a sane country, but not in a zoo like Nigeria...

Animal science? In Nigeria? Why not study biology or biochemistry or zoology self? Animals are not a subject of discussion unless we are talking about food.

Yes, especially if you want to go into livestock farming. Work in a big farm / Govt, get the experience. Save money or use family inheritance or loan to establish your own farm. Live within your means. You are set for life.

There are alot of courses that should be exponge from our curriculum and animal sciences is part of them. The job prospect is very bleak in Nigeria except you want to be a lecturer. Come to think of it how many functioner zoo do we have in Nigeria

That course has more prospects than some courses like petrochemical engineering, biochemistry, microbiology, chemical related courses...

Many graduates from those courses are still stranded because opportunities are limited, hence the job market is over saturated but funnily enough jambites are still filling them.

You can establish an animal farm and feed comfortably when you graduate.

Food market moves always as people must eat nah.

From my previous discussion with those I know from the department I think it's a very nice course... I was told they write professional exams just like medicine

Am a proud animal scientist. Studied Animal Nutrition @ FUNAAB and had my M.sc in Agricultural Biochemistry at U.I .
This last few month really opened my eyes to alot of things particularly how important farming is.
I work in An integrated Farm as the manager and during this lockdown, I placed an advert on social media for job opportunities. People with B.Tech, B. Engineer, and political science graduate applied for farm attendant Job.
The pandemic lead to alot of company and industries to lay off some of their staffs and there is massive unemployment in town at the moment. but farmers are still working, birds are still laying eggs, ours Pigs and goats are producing good litters and our staffs and labourers are still earning and meeting their needs.

To cap it all, the management increased salary for all her workers during the lockdown rather than lay off some like is happening in other sectors of the economy.

My guy just study hard and ensure u know the tifun tedo of animal science, the technical know-how and u are good to go.

For 10 years she kept waiting for job to come.!!! No sir. an average Agric student is a potential CEO of her own farm. instead of waiting for jobs that were not forthcoming, she ought to have start a small farm with some amount of birds, groom it till it becomes big.

The question the OP is asking is Animal science a good course. The answer is no. if the op have option, please change to better courses like Computer Science, Accountancy, Nursing and some engineering course. You can only go for this course if you want to be a practicing farmer. A good course doesn't have to be until you own a farm just like having a degree in Nursing or medicine doesn't mean the only option open to you is to own an hospital. You should start with a paid employement and be an apprehentice first and train before you established yours later in life. Going into farming will make you old quickly than your mate who works in offices

Even outside Nigeria you will struggle. I have a professor of Animal science who have to look for something else after he migrated

My guy, I don't want to deceive you the way my lectures deceived us in school .It is not a good course .Where will you work when you graduate ? You will be wasting 5 years of your life if you take that course.You better go in for professional courses like engineering , computer, medicine and so on

To me, it happens to be one of the best courses that I've ever known. Honestly, if I'm given the opportunity to come to this world all over again, it's going to be the course I'm going to study any day, any time. What matter most is the passion you are having for it. Study hard to know everything that can be known in the field and you are good to go. People might be discouraging you cause it requires capital. But I want you to know that it isn't when you have with you millions of naira before you are capable of setting up your farm.

animal science is a very good course, majority of my mate that did it are out of the country already, cos they get scholarship easily

You can study any course in this country. After you're done with whatever years you want to use, drop the certificate and hustle like you did not go to school.
If you have a skill or something you love doing, pls don't leave it. work hard on it and use your educational knowledge to develop that skill. You ll be glad you did.
