Let me teach you how to calculate the amount of fish feeds you would need daily in your fish farm.

First get the weight of your fishes, in some cases especially for big farmers, you can do an estimate by picking out 5 fishes and getting the average, then multiply by the total number of fish in the pond.

It is appropriate to feed your fishes between 3-5% of their body weight daily. Anything beyond +/-6 is already a waste, that is what causes pollution, depletion of oxygen, stress and leads to diseases and also mortality.

E.g to calculate amount of feed to give 2000 fishes of 20 grams for example is given below:-

Ikg = 1000g
Weight of fish =20*2000 = 40,000g

Now to feed them, the formula is

Weight of feed= 20*2000*5/1000*100

Using 5% as our choice of body weight used for calculation (remember between 3-5% is OK, though 4% is good)

Which is equal to 2kg daily, to be accurate, you have to check their weight through random sampling every week or biweekly, depending on how convenient or increase by 10-12% after a week.
BEST IS TO CHECK FISH WEIGHT

THE 2KG CAN BE GIVEN TO THE FISHES BY dividing into 2, I.e 1kg in morning, 1kg in the evening, preferably before 6pm or at worst 6pm.

In the evening oxygen content in water reduces and feeding them late can cause mortality to not bore you with details.

Share with other fish farmers, more than 70% just feed and later come to complain

N.B: since he will be the one to build the farm, should we pay him for this or must we start to pay him from profit earned when the farm start functioning?

then ur consultant isn't experience afterall...if not he will know there are times whereby fish go plenty for market and u won't sell all ur fish at d stipulated time u want to sell it, thereby affecting future plans...my brother, build ur market first before stocking big else u will run into debt... profit in fish farming isn't fully on what u stock ooo it is how u stock and management practice. Have u thought about cases whereby one batch of fish stock might have a disease and u need to dispose them. Will u stock again inside that pond without treating? My brother taste the water before diving fully into it ooo...start small, make ur first sales and grow little by little from there

What is your basis of saying that someone who wants to start big can start because SE and SS consume alot of cat fish, have you ever sold catfish in the SE market? Or do you know about cat fish marketing in the SE?

I did not only fail, hundreds if not thousands of others also did,the biz is overhyped.My senior bro lost over 15m on that useless biz not that we didn't plan well and we even hired the best of consultants to guide us,with state of the art hatchery and other facilities,we even use the best fish feed that money can buy.Catfish biz has destroyed so many lives, caused pains and sorrows to families.Its just like forex trading biz,the more you look the less you see..... losses, losses upon losses.
The only people profiting from the biz are catfish information marketers and consultants,fish sellers in the market,feeds sellers while the farmers end up in pains and sorrows.

PS.Pls check the figures you used for the calculation. There is an error.

Those figures will eventually give you 20kg instead of 2kg.

This forum is meant n created to help catfish farmers not d other way round. some people r just taking d advantage of this tread to form watsap groups without my consent. please if u have joined any watsap group created out of dis tread don't patronize them, I'm not aware of any of them. For little elaboration, answeing vulcan. The calculation is correct.

First you can use fish net or sleeve to get your fishes for sampling without killing anyone

For the calculation, lets break it to small bits, the reason why 1000 is down is simply because 20 grams to kilogram =20/1000. Hence the 20 is up and 1000 down.

The reason why 100 is down is because it is a percentage. 5% used is 5/100. That is the reason 5 is up and 100 is down.

And the last up is 2000, the number of the stock rate used. There is no need to put it over anything because it is a stand alone factor.

Nothing else to emphasis, it have been broken down to pieces.

There is something that is called fish net that could be use to bring out your sample from the pond.

About the calculation? If not correct, by His Grace, you won't see it here.

Let me help you clarify

First the number of fishes=2000
Grams of each=20 grams
Body percentage used= 5% (Feeding)

Now, 1000grams =1kg

20x2000x5(at the top as shown and quoted)

1000x100(at the button as shown and quoted)
I believe you can see the slash sign that means divided?

20x2000x5=200,000(@ top)
1000x100=100,000(@buttom)

If you divide 200,000/100,000 what will you get?

The Answer is 2kg
