From what I read...it means only the camping will be suspended but placement will still carry on.

This is actually wise, there are more to it. That will also cut federal government expenditure. 2020 budget was footed with loan, how will we foot 2021? We really need this suspension.

Trust me the budget of NYSC is not what is drowning Nigeria's economy.
My dear look at the National Assembly undecided it's even worse than the executive arm and judiciary combined.
I know how much people save and earn from NYSC not just the alawee but the side jobs that come with it.
When I served it was not even up to 10k but I made some money that helped for the subsequent months until job came then. Now my young friends earning 30k I see how it's helping their ministry at least. Mind you some private schools and businesses still pay 15k per month as salary oh! This 30k for 12 months coupled with exposure to new areas and people and extra work can never be watered down by the dangers and stress of the service year. For the deaths, soldiers are posted and killed so are NGO workers and Federal civil servants who don't have any connect which deserves total condemnation undecided not just shock. So instead of scrapping the programme because of deficit budget, drop in finance and fear of killings, FG should secure the lives of corps members (as for every other citizen) and improve the economy from reducing the pay of senators and their kins men in the lower chamber and other leakages and wastefulness (imagine chartering a whole plane for a state judge? Even if it's a supreme Court judge angry, the same people used a whole plan to take pictures, picture, the same air power that is not available in Chibok and Dapchi, is available for Naira Marley and Photographer, tongue look, that's the waste)

FG knows how else they can save and generate money, they are just being insensitive and mischievous, as Benue people wink

that is what is done in Ghana and there is no essence of khaki uniform? They aren't paramilitary . They are educated civilians. Identity card is enough. Money spent recklessly should be minimized and channel to productive energy that can create employment


Even the camp should be optional if It is eventually rolled back. Not every body want to have or interested in millitary exercise.

They may not pay tax, they pay indirect tax, which you don't know about, they provide cheap labor to the government and private sector... some sch in Nigeria have only one or two teachers, they use nysc members as support staff, instead of employing a full time workers, same with organization, industry, and public and private cooperation. The scheme only degrade professional to mere messenger and errands boys and girls all in the name of national integration, nysc cheap labour.

The 3 weeks orientation camp should not be scrap. But the unproductive one year of going to ppa should be scrap and Corp members Should be given their monthly stipend in a lumpsum.

The suggestion didn't say scrap the entire programme but the camp, we have heard
But this is just a prenup of suggesting it's totally scrapping which we are agitating against.
For me I also agitate against the closing of camps.
As the VP said after things get back to normal they can organise camp for them so there's no backlog, fine. This is the point of reference - no stop camp or PPA

Scrap the nonsensically nonsense called NYSC, I hate that nonsense since my younger days as a kid, seeing different faces (prostitutes and criminals) coming to my home town at AWGU all in the names of serving the nation

i think the scheme should made better used of them. They should even be thinking in mobilising selective corps member to international community . The unity shoudnt focus on Nigeria only. Corps member can go received selected training abroad that are important to national co-operation and institution, instead of just being used as cheap labourers. Once they learn the skills abroad in their respective organization , they quickly come back home to occupy needed position. It will eliminate dependant on foreing labourers who over charges the nation and keep the nation progress abreast. Maybe by now China doctors will not be needed.

The scheme shouldn't be made to degrade corps but enhance their jobs skills and prospect.
