Biko for the sake of goodness, how did a steroidal antiinflammatory agent which reduces the efficiency of the immune system help people with covid-19? I will search for the full text of this study sha.
Think has something to do with helping with lung function and the fact that steroids generally are anti inflammatory drugs, infact one of the most powerful anti inflammatory drugs known.
Don't forget,in preterm labor for example, dexamethasone is routinely administered for fetal lung maturity.

The leaders of the RECOVERY drug trial in the UK, who are testing the effects of many existing drugs on COVID-19 patients, have announced that the drug dexamethasone, which is very cheap (for now) and available in most countries (including ours), has been experimentally proven to reduce the risk of death of people with severe cases of the Coronavirus disease.

They administered 6mg of dexamethasone daily (by tablet or by injection) to 2104 COVID-19 patients for ten days. After 28 days, they compared the results of this treatment to the normal treatment which 4321 other patients received. They discovered that the drug reduces the risk of death in patients who are on oxygen or on the ventilator.

* For patients who were so sick that they had to be placed on a ventilator, dexamethasone reduced their risk of death from 40% to 28%. For every 8 COVID-19 patients on the ventilator treated with this drug, 1 additional life was saved.

* For patients sick enough to be placed on oxygen, the risk of death dropped by from 25% to 20%. For every 25 patients on oxygen treated, 1 additional life was saved.

* For patients who were not sick enough to be placed on oxygen or a ventilator, the researchers did not observe any significant improvement.

This is good news for Ex-Governor Abiola Ajimobi and other Nigerian COVID-19 patients in intensive care. The benefit seems modest but remember, that improvement is relative to the standard treatment in the UK.

Yep. It suppresses immune system. And we know that over stimulation of immune system and release of damaging cytokines is a major problem causing severe illness and death.

Nice one, atleast there's beginning to be a breakthrough to ending this pandemic, meanwhile while we're on it you can aid in the initiative by FCMB and other organisations of providing upto 1 million meals for the vulnerable in the society.

...I don't understand the above statement ,does it means that the drug will only work for people that are very sick on oxygen or Ventilator alone and not for people with little symptoms ?
Yes. They said, "There was no benefit among those patients who did not require respiratory support"

What is the difference between 50 naira and 500 naira if you're on a ventilator? It will still be cheaper than other drugs, for those who need it.

I really pity you.
This was credible research by researchers with apparently no vested interest and not a pronouncement

It would actually be a liability for a news medium not to report it. Just check the source, it is not
from YouTube, Reddit or 4chan.

Also, medicine isn't based on a single poorly executed research.

You should have wisened up since most of the things they predicted for you turn out to be lies.
How about those vaccines that are being hidden?
How about the 5G?
How about the mark of the beast?

You are no longer a kid, stop thinking like one.

Your advice is useless.
You could have asked people to jump 10 times a day and the effect will be the same.
Unpredictable and non-causative.

The difference is not just for the person at the short end of the stick of Covid-19... Dexamethasone is a drug used by a lot of people battling dermatitis, COPD, Asthma management, etc...

Such steep spike in price of even a common generic will tell badly on most of them.

Same thing happened with hydroxychloroquine... This is a drug that has for long been indicated and regularly used by sufferers of autoimmune conditions like Lupus... Imagine paying as much as 25,000 for the very same drug they always purchased regularly for 2,000.

This is what I'm talking about... This is the injustice and aberration I would expect authorities like Price Protection Agency to guard against.

Who told you WHO, Bill Gates and CNN won't like it??

They would be happy...especially the WHO.

Look, the results on dexamethasone come from a randomised controlled trial. About the highest grade trial you can conduct regarding drug related research.

All your garlic, etc haven't been proven to work. Until they undergo a RCT trial and are proven to work against placebo or exisitng treatment, then we can talk.

What's your problem with WHO? The same WHO that spends billions on malaria prevention, protein energy malnutrition treatment, anemia in women, vaccinations against childhood killer diseases etc etc, is not going to be happy about a potential treatment for covid19?
