Coldie:what I mean is the nature of the settlement...the nature of settlement of se is different from sw for example...a random look through google earth will explain what I mean |

asha80:You are right. The Southwest adopted centralized settlement which actually created space for forest preservation and availability of large cimmunal lands for farming. The Southeast has a pattern of settlement that wastes land |
| Re: Few Pics From Imo State by Chibuzo15: 1:38am On Jun 18, 2020 |
Abagworo:As in ehn, land that we don't have in surplus. government needs to adopt some socialism tactics , they should take hold of the lands and make sure people only build what is required in that particular location. That way farm land would be available, and forest reserve would still remain. |

| Re: Few Pics From Imo State by whirlwind7(m): 8:06am On Jun 18, 2020 |
Abagworo:I don't entirely agree with this. Like most part of the SE, the SW isn't planned around major settlements. Just happens that the SW has so much land mass compared with SE. Like the SE, the Yorubas also site their rural settlements in close proximity to pre-existing ones for security reasons. They just have more fallow, uncultivated land, which the SE doesn't. |

proeast:You're not exaggerating. I have witnessed this first hand. But then, I know people who are snapping up lands around there, especially in places with close proximity to Afọr-Oru Market. Which is how I got to know the very scary price that a small piece of land commands around there. This person told me that, if I think land is expensive now, then I should wait for 10 years ![]() One other reason why land tend to be expensive is from the way land is fragmented to be shared among siblings. For instance, a piece of land no bigger than a plot may be owned by 3 brothers who inherited it from their father. One may decide to sell his own portion, while the others aren't ready to sell yet. To induce them to sell, a potential buyer will have to offer something above the prevalent market price. Once the transaction is sealed, others who own lands around there take note of the price at which it was sold and that becomes the price at which adjourning lands are pegged. Bottom line, prices are driven upwards by short supply and the sentiments attached to land. Which makes me laugh when ignorant folks from the SW say that Igbos don't sell land to non Igbos. The very few who dared were scared shitless from the high price, and felt it was a ploy to dissuade them from buying lands in alaigbo. |

Coldie:I think your meant ground floor, not last floor for parking garage. You know, I don't know why they ain't thinking in your direction. Southeast isn't Northern Nigeria that can afford indiscriminate usage of land because they have an enormous supply of land. Imo state is lucky to have some high-rise buildings, government just needs to buy into the idea also. You'll even see some agencies that have less than 50 people working there occupying over 2 plots of land. Mehn we need a rethink jare |

SmartPolician:We definitely have smart people on this thread, Kudos bro. We have so demonized agriculture... That's a fact We have a lot of value orientation going on among youths in South West... Another fact. Look at what young people in southwest are doing in Agriculture, you'll marvel. Nobody should tell me it's because of the market, because I know people eat in EVERY PART OF THE COUNTRY. Yet, go to relief market Owerri, and you'll find out our people rely on food crops all the way from the north, EVEN VEGETABLES. In all my study and even farm groups I am a member of, I haven't seen any tomato farm situated in the east among other things. Even most vegetable farming in the east occurs during the rainy season, once the rains subside, we go back to depending on truckload of vegetables from the North Thank God our people are going into poultry business now, but we really need more. |

| Re: Few Pics From Imo State by Yampotatocarrot(m): 10:12pm On Jun 18, 2020 |
whirlwind7:You know Afor-Oru market? You be area o... Lol Question now becomes, is there any area in Imo state where one can get land that is FERTILE enough for agriculture? Someone already mentioned that Okigwe area is out of it cos of the rocky nature of the ground there. Which area can one face now? |

| Re: Few Pics From Imo State by whirlwind7(m): 9:57am On Jun 19, 2020 |
Yampotatocarrot:As for fertility, that isn't guaranteed. But since you can make a barren land fertile yourself, it shouldn't be the main yardstick for purchasing farmland in the SE where it is in short supply. Not all part of Okigwe is rocky. If you get reasonable offers there, go and inspect the land to see the amount of stones in it. I learnt about farmlands for sale at Mgbidi over 3 years ago, but I didn't follow up due to lack of funds. Not sure they are still available now. Also learnt about lands at Okigwe, after Umulolo. My inlaw went to check it out, but was a bit discouraged due to it's remoteness. He wanted something close by a good road. But lands like that would be too costly. I got info on lands at Eziobodo. Want to send someone to inspect and give me feedback, then I can decide. Generally, farmlands would cost about 200k per plot and above. For me, I'm not averse to farmland any location in the SE, so long as the place is easily accessible and motorable. Only thing I'm wary of is the menace of herdsmen. |
| Re: Few Pics From Imo State by Yampotatocarrot(m): 10:56am On Jun 19, 2020 |
whirlwind7:Yeah, you are correct about making the land fertile yourself. However, I haven't heard any news about herdsmen in Imo so I don't really think that should be an issue. I don't think there is anywhere in Imo lands will go for 200k, even in the hinterlands. I stand to be corrected though |

| Re: Few Pics From Imo State by Coldie: 2:00pm On Jun 19, 2020 |
Igbos we need to be against secession. Be against restructuring. Be against resource control. I just found out today that Aguiyi ironsi was the best thing that ever happened to Igbo land. We need to place all resources and waterways in the hands of the FG. Theres this plan I have, that I know that Biafra cannot give us but the federal government of Nigeria can, it will change the fortunes of Igbo land for the better. |

Coldie:Be against restructuring and resource control? Can you explain your reasons for this, please? |
| Re: Few Pics From Imo State by Coldie: 2:08pm On Jun 19, 2020 |
Yampotatocarrot:I just discovered that if there was to restructuring it won't benefit us in anyway. It will only benefit the west and the south south. With the way these two regions have been acting it seems to be all man to himself, so I think we should be laying down our own plans. If we push for an extra state, it cabr be created from the east cause our quota is complete. We had 2regions then 3 then 4 and it went on. Right now in the south in state creation the former eastern region has more States than the former western region. East has 9 while the west has 8, do the math on what will happen in the next state creation. Unless they create anioma state and zone it to the SE, we have nothing to gain from restructuring. |
