Do you have a problem admitting that the response at Monguno isn't impressive.
First, we lost soldiers, 2ndly AHQ provided equipment that would deal with the threat & future threats presently torched by the enemy, depriving NA gallant men & women future response capabilities.

Repelling an attack at the cost of important equipment & lives of soldiers isn't a sensible benchmark for measuring success.
Im sure you agree at least.

I had too read this three times, found it hard to believe this is your opinion.

@ the 3rd pic. And someone will argue that NA front line troops doesn't have side arms or hand grenade. I think it is left to the troopers and their commanders.

Why at this stage in our development and awareness are we digging WW2 trenches in a Sahel savanna.

Things have moved on nobody is digging trenches. You need elevation to defend and to see your enemy, more so in the predominantly flat lands of the Sahel Savanna. The cost is very very minimal.

The HESCO bags have become the standard for for all military bases in this modern day and age.
They are constructed with collapsible wire mesh frame with a thick synthetic canvas type strong fabric covering.

It's like lego you can stack them up 3 levels that gives you up to 30 feet of elevation. That means you can with magnification remote cameras or just plain binoculars including thermal vision have up to 5km possibly more of spatial awareness and vision.

These HESCO bags can be VERY EASILY be locally produced 100% local content in Nigeria for peanuts. Just with simple revers engineering.

That will make a huge difference to our forward bases and defensive positions and stop them from being over run. Giving you protection from Rpg7's and even heavy mortar fire.

Examples below.

As u can see from the pics these are like permanent FOBs so the need for the HESCOSs unlike ours it's not troops don't stay there for up to two weeks they are always moving...

The use even for the two weeks will save the troops a lot of stress. Even if they are not stacked one on top another, the minimum elevation and protection will go a long way. These bags also don't discourage the use by mobile units as they can be quickly filled and emptied and can be carried around with less stress. Another fact I love about them is that when filled, they offer better projectile resistance and protection than your regular brick wall, all you need is BAG, SAND(and/or ROCKS) and people/equipment to fill them.
In fact trenches can still be dug and the sand evacuated from the trenches used to fill the bags.

Hammering on the bolded.....Can't we get Western style armed drones from Turkey or the other Arab Country(can't remember there name now) or even Israel?

The admittance of FAILURE is the beginning of SUCCESS.

The denial of FAILURE when there has been systemic failure will result in continous failure and the enthronment of mediocrity .

There is an issue of low expectations here. The same way we see our politicians they do nothing, indeed they are comprehensively inept, but we claim they are TRYING.

These incidents have become continous over the past years. Combatants abandoning equipment, thier positions in the face of Boko attack.

Instead of doing a proper post mortem and getting at the root of the problem we paint over the matter and say we are trying. Sorry it's not good enough.

With regards to the bold that's utter Balderdash.

There is a contingency plan, the UK has never fought a war on its soil for over a 100 years. But thier is a contingency plan for one.

There are fighter pilots stationed at multiple RAF bases on "High Alert" standby 24/7/365. At a moments notice within 3/4 minutes they are airborne and going at supersonic speed to intercept targets. There are regular drills to keep them up to scratch, there is no complacency.

On this platform we have hailed the NAF as being highly competent. But with what unit of comparative measurement, l don't know.

I made two assumptions first that we have some air assets ( fighter jets) in Maiduguri, do we ❓ The distance by road between Monguno and Maiduguri is about 85miles however "as the crow flies" and using nautical miles, it is a lot shorter.

With this in mind the NAF should be able to have target acquisition in Monguno within or less than 15 minutes. It is not difficult.

This has nothing to do with being an advanced country or not. It's about competence, organisational culture and effective management.

You claim we have very few operational aircraft. Then who decided to buy 12 aircraft that will take 6 years to complete the supply and three years before we get the first ones. I am sorry it is near deranged thinking.

Is the USA the only country that sells aircraft in the world.

The cost of two A29 will give us 50 Wing Loong II UAV today not in 6 years time. Do you know if you had those UAV Boko will be almost rendered impotent. That will give you complete situational awareness over the whole NE.

They UAV operates very silently not like a noisy turboprop, with a ceiling of over 30k feet. Once again l am talking about the HERE and very present NOW.

What I don't understand is how the NA in Monguno doesn't have any outposts to give them situational awareness. It's like they were asleep when Boko attacked.

But that not withstanding, Boko did not invade with 100 T72 tanks just in my estimation not more than 15/20 rickety gun trucks and combatants with light arms walking around like it's Sunday afternoon stroll.

The Vickers MBT is able on its own to completely halt the advance. It may be old but it's very capable, it's 105 mm gun is stabilised it can shoot on the move 100% accuracy any target under 2km. By the time just 4/5 of the gun trucks are decimated the rest will run away.

Finally, something many will not like to consider this but we should. Imagine there were Chadian soldiers in Monguno what do you think would have been thier response

Armed Turkish/Chinese drones are expensive misadventures. They work but down the line, they start cropping up with reliability issues and later grounded.

The man talked about operational reliability. Getting them to work everyday, day and night. We need to stop thinking like amateurs and start using real thinking. Also, the waiting time for drones from Turkey is +2years, Operational time is maybe 3 years. Nigeria could get something developed within that time frame.

The idea that there is equipment just waiting in a showroom for pickup and ready to drive the next day, that's another annoying fantasy that amateur defence commentators yammer about.

Yes, let's buy some $ million drones with tethering and reliability issues because we have' crude oil money'.

Nigeria is better off with MALE drones for reconnaissance and intelligence, a few more helicopters and fixed wing assets than payload restricted UCAV. Besides this is an insurgency not a conventional army like used in Syria or Libya. Great to take out one or two targets, then what happens next?

Strafing runs, multiple hits and so are required dealing with BH convoys. Not your one hit wonders.

Holistic mindset not throwing money at a target is what's required here.

They even complained when the army bought Guided anti tank missiles from China saying it's useless against Ragtag BHT Hilux..
And they still suggest for a more expensive Air to surface missile firing drone against the same Ragtag BHT

If u talkin' 'bout time frame;we could get atleast 20 ucavs from china within 1 year 5 months.
You guys keep saying nigeria can develop a drone within 2 years.lol.
First,it was amebo and gulma uav(s).now the tsaigumi and they ain't still operational.mind you,we've been talking about these drones since 2012 and they ain't still operational.this show incompetence and unseriousness to end the war and develop the airforce

Gulma and Amebo were just technology demonstrators Tsaigumi UAV is confirmed and it's active
CAS in 2018 said some Tsaigumi UAVs will be deployed at the AFB in Cross rivers,Shell company is Procuring Some For NAF for Pipeline surveillance, Kaduna state procured some for Surveillance in the state.

Look, drones are even more suitable for COIN warfare than the coventional.
With ucavs we could track and take out those bhts in larger numbers.ucavs got a higher service ceiling compared to our gunships and the ucav(s) are 'stealth' compared to our fixed wing aircraft.if u talkin' 'bout drones being too expensive,
You gotta understand that presently nigeria airforce is kinda spending much to get little result.e.g.we spend over 5 million bi monthly on fuelling our aircrafts.if we got ucav(s) we don't require to spend much to power them.we could arm the drones with rockets instead of using 'expensive' missiles to take out bht technicals and bases.if u sayin' drones carry limited weaponry;you gotta note that a wing loong uav can take between 10-20 rockets.thats more than our alpha jets and l 39s.so,with a ucav i could have an increased combat range and have the ability to carry out ISR on that ssme platform, instead of spending on different platforms with little results

arm a drone with rockets and you'll have to fly at a closer range to hit target accurately. You stated with a UCAV you get to Carry out Combat and ISR at the Same,What comes to mind is the Super Tucano Built for COIN operations and has more payload that UCAV..
