Hello house, my sis just called me yesterday evening saying they've withdrawn about 300k from her account after she misplaced her phone in the bus 2days ago.

She said she has not used her ATM card for a very long time now.

Please is this possible, and is there anything she can do about it?

She uses GTB.

Immediately she shud HV gone to the bank and complain now, there they will deactivate the ATM..
She made a mistake hoo, she shouldn't HV felt comfortable after loosing the card now, even knowing the amount she has in it.
Tell her to go to bank, customer's service, they will deactivate it for her..

I dont think anything can be done. She should have done something the instant it was stolen. Blocked her bank account. Or moved all her money to another account. She probably had a bank app so they can break into it from there.

Next time. People should be installing trackers on their phones. Its easy and free.

Something can be done,there is always a transfer to another account holder,let her get her bank statement from there she will be able to get the name and the destination where the money has gone...
The name of the thief and his bank is already on the statement of account..

She should to the bank and lodge a complaint about illegal withdrawal from her account.

EFCC will do justice to the culprit

From what happened, it seems she obviously can. And most of these banks would claim they deactivated it, but if you try it, you go see sey e still dey work.

I've once called Stanbic to hot list my mastercard, and some months later, I just said I should try the card as I needed cash urgently, lo & behold, the tin vomit money oo!

Imagine I had thrown the card away

Something calls USSD. Its how money is transferred without the internet. If she blocked her sim it would have been impossible. Sadly she didn't

Well the banks should be able to handle that sir, but you should involve police too so they can track and trace the phone

.. Best way to sVd your money

1. Take all ur huge but not always in use money to a micro finance bank:there you Re free from online banking and atp and bank app.

2. If u want to continue with ur current Mega banks.. On the acct you have huge money, disconnect that acct from ur fone. That is, use only Online banking and not USDD. That way, if ur fone gets missing they can't bring up ur BVN from dialing any code on your fone cuz its no more connected.... With this u won't b getting alert anymore. You can b using the bank app to check your balance or go physically to bank. U will also not b using ATM for that acct......... But gud news is dt ur save!

Too bad. I can remember vividly about this time last year july. I went to drink and got drunk.misplaced my phone or it probably slipped up when i was rushing to get into the car. Aft 2hrs when i got home .the highness don drop to 30%. That was when my eye open.i drove straight to the atm by 11.30pm to do transfer.naso network hook. I was so lucky sha cos i was having my last 600k in my acct. Found the phone with a stranger after parting with 10k 4days later. Those 4 days i no bother transfer the owoe i allowedit breathe.knowing how hard it is to unbrick an iphone when locked

To d best of my knowledge,they went to her GTB app,reset her password,(email and mobile number still on phone to get otp) from there,they dusted her account.

To avoid this:
1. Lock your phone with a password
2. Account with bulk of your money should not have access to atm.
