Nigeria Should Adopt Yoruba As Official Language by BigBashiru: 1:12pm On Jun 22, 2020 |
- Having English as official language is a sign of mental submission to the white man and this should be changed immediately - with increasing confidence by the black man comes more power on the global scene. - Another alternative: "Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa" as official languages and English as secondary language. Black man - take responsibility for your lives and your countries! 1 Like |

If we want we can force Yoruba as the official language. There are ways to do it, easily! Ask the question, how did english become the language of the majority? There are politico-economic strings to pull to install socio-cultural changes....permanently! 1 Like |

I agree with your sentiments but I don't think Nigeria should not have an "official" language at least at the federal level. This idea is not radical as there are many countries with no official languages including the US. It only makes sense because of dissatisfaction by its various 500+ ethnolinguistics and minority fear of domination by the majority groups. The traditional languages would still have recognition at a regional level. English would still play a role due to its international status, but it won't get an "official status." |

B3ACHSIDE: Look here.... Its not about what's good for globalisation or global integration but what's good for a nation.... English is not the language spoken in most homes in Nigeria...and few Nigerians can express themselves confidently solely in english....graduates are no exception..... Yet we expect students in our educational institutions to assimilate knowledge in a language they have a poor grasp.... There are numerous reason Africa is struggling....one of it is a poor educational system designed not to meet the local need of the continent.... Show me a developed and successful nation today with a foreign language as the medium of instruction or lingual franca.....show me just one... Let me ask u a question.... A Nigerian bricklayer or an electrician's thought process is in what language.... Do u think he's thinking in English when at work? Of course not...he's thinking in his own native language.... They analyse and overcome challenges in their line of work thinking in the native language..... But if the same electrician wants to learn about electricity in our polytechnic, we will insist he must be proficient in english.... how does that help him....Ignorance and naivety is killing us.... Go to VI, Ikoyi... most plumbers, electricians, bricklayers working on those luxurious high rise are from philipines, cambodia, thailand, china.... They can't even write their names in English.... Yet Nigerians will look down on our own artisans who cant speak proper English claiming they are not good enough.... |
