While in the banking industry, I incorporated my business name as a limited liability company in 2014, provided only screen printing services in a room out of my three bedroom apartment( rent in kano is relatively cheap, depending on your location, I was paying 100k annually).

I resigned in August 30th of 2015 with just 5k and a debt burden of up to 200k.
I spent 24hrs praying and listening to powerful gospel messages ( still do it till today).


My first job came two days after i resigned, AKTH (Physiotherapy day, 65 T-shirt) made a profit of 30k.

I started going in and out of schools, churches and organizations in kano trying to get them to do some printing jobs with me.

One month later in September pricelessly, I got a job with a highly recognized and respectable school in kano(Y......college),
they asked me to bring samples, that was how I met the owners(Nigerian man and German wife)
Oh boy! I talk tire... added with lies..
Thank God the Admin was a correct gee( told him i will settle him if i get d job).
They called me after 3days, gave me a cheque of my annual salary (nearly run mad when I got outside d gates), my annual as a contract staff was 1.1million.

The story too long. Maybe for another day.

Summary now be say...

I have 7 NGOs( well recognized ones) both in kano and Maiduguri that gives me jobs regularly.

In 2019 we got a contract from a Microfinance bank, we supplied from the wall signage, pedestrian signage, deposit slip, account opening packages, Id cards to branded gift items etc.
We signed an MOU with one of the NGOs last year for partnership( no go tell u how much).

We have moved from Printing to branding to fabrication to construction to trainings and to logistics.
Thinking of creating a thread to share my stories.
Bottom line is... U must read books and understand Nigerian business terrain, add em with spiritual powers( no joke with prayers, leave women alone, sex na distraction and demo notion).

it is better for you to save little and quit as soon as possible,because if you don't quit now bank will soon send you parking any time , I work will first bank as a teller for 10 years my pension is just 2500 a month , when bank quit us we stay for 3 years without job because they needed experience person,no organization will want to employ you cause they don't see you as an experience person.it take grace of God that I see this one , but you see those my friend who stopped every early and join business? some off them now a big boy , some are abroad , look at me here still struggle .... say no to contract job not when u are still single because when you start having children ,to quit na wahala , to start business na war, it will be waist of youth age ( God forbid

Those contract staff in other countries have skills, expertise and experiences that are above those of the regular staff. If you do not contribute something special, no one will be dolling out money because you are a contract staff.
When you start your business, you can pay all your profit to your staff as salary o.

You have something doing and you are complaining. Do you know the respect that society gives you for having a verifiable job you do? And there is no way you can be a banker and have anytime for online business unless you are into bet9ja, Bitcoin etc which are not even reliable sources of income.

I know someone who was earning 30k a month in a microfinance bank and he got married with that salary and you are here talking nonsense as if you were forced to take the job.

Keep defending them.. This is why there is zero dignity of labour here. For your information many of these contract staff do much more and produce more direct results than the regular staff. It is just Nigerians taking advantage of government docility as usual. Even multinational companies are now taking advantage of this same lack of governance, stuff they can never do in other African countries not to talk of other parts of the world.

Keep defending them, that is what you Nigerians do best. No wonder your government sh*t on you guys everyday. Such a docile group of people eating sh*t daily for breakfast.

I am not defending the bank chief. I am only saying every employer is out there to make money. They will surely pay you less than the full value you contribute. The profit banks declare is for their shareholders, not for the staff! Only few do profit sharing and bonus packages. As it is in Nigeria, so it is else where. Once the banks pay above the minimum wage....no problem. What is the minimum wage in Nigeria??

Contract staff are to open accounts, do tellering, pick calls in call centers, chase some deposits, perform support roles basically. The core of the bank's profit comes from loan creation, FX sales, trade services and ebusiness. Most of these are not directly handled by the contract staff.

Also the big accounts that generate the deposits and take the loans from which the money is made are not handled by the contract staff.

Contract staff basically handle non sensitive roles and all their activities are monitored by the core staff.

Businesses, banks, multinationals are cutting their costs because these are austere times. This is happening all over the world. If you cannot create your own business, then be ready to face same anywhere you are.

If you wanna work as a core staff, wait till the bank wants to recruit full staff, apply and run through the selection process. I know many contract staffs. Some earning above the regular guys because they are more of consultants and several others who are using the job as a bridge between today and tomorrow.

Well, there is dignity of Labour where I work.

Ensure you focus on the business without anyone distracting you. Don't jump from one business to the other no matter what, stay on the business you are doing and have passion for, until it starts paying you. When you quit, don't look for any other job, focus on your online business. Finally, draw close to God, pray fast and ask God for favor in the business, trust me the Holy Spirit will reveal so much hidden info to help you. As hard as this sound to some people, it still remains the number one principal thing to grow financially - Pay your tithe as the business is bringing in the money, 10% is for God. It is my Spiritual insurance and it has not failed since 2017.

God help you as you take this life-changing decision.

OP if you like your future, better quite and start hustling on ur own now, though it'll be a bit tough at the start, but trust me, you'll live never to regret this as you'll get to find out that you actually made the right move later on.

I resigned from my contract job as a teller last year with Access Bank when I realized that one "small guy" like that in my branch was getting times 5 of my salary, just imagine that, d guy was getting 280k monthly with an official car to aid his marketing outings.

bros, I couldn't be at my best since d day I got to find out abt his pay.

Outside this salary thing, you're totally like a slave to both the bank and real REAL bank staffs.

You need to see the way my manager used to talk to sm contract staffs in my branch then, you're nothing but a boy to them no matter how you look. They're your boss even if you're their senior, whatever they say, you're expected to do it, be it in a rude or polite way, you're just expected to sh*t d fk up and do ur job.

my people, the kinda fights and quarrels that used to occur then at my branch wasn't just here. I in particular don't use to talk nor laugh with them, except they call in to avoid being insulted cos this is what I got to find out then at my branch, the more u get to open up to them, the more they get to talk down at you especially if you're on contract.

guys to cut d whole thing short, I left the job to further my school, currently on my M.Tech( Masters) now.

I rather go back to school than waste my life working for a peanut pay and still not being seen as anything by my follow workers.

I'm not yet there, but I'll surely get there. I am also into online business and I mk far more than my pay now.. To the glory of God

I'm speaking from a position of pity for these people, the direct victims of a failed system. I can as well pretend and mind my business like most of you do but no, I prefer to bare my mind. Most likely I earn far more than you but that doesn't mean I don't feel their pain. That's the difference between both of us.

A few points though :

* Banks declare huge profits for their shareholders but does that mean they can not do better for their helpless contract staff? It's just greed and wickedness. They are taking advantage of a failed system. If proper laws are in place to protect workers and shore up minimum living wages to reasonable levels they will still work fine and declare huge profits for their shareholders.

* Some contract staff involved in marketing have been known to bring big businesses. In some cases these businesses are hijacked from them to meet the targets of main staff. Not all contract staff are involved in operations. They are however mostly treated as second class staff. The weak has to be protected. That is what makes us human.

* Cutting cost is normal in every organization, but this menace of contract staffing with graduates has to stop. It is demeaning and inhuman. Greedy slave labourers are taking advantage of the whole situation. Stuff that can't happen in saner climes - this is the point. There is a line that should not be crossed when it comes to humans. If you can't pay, don't hire.

If u are business oriented person ask urself questions like :
1. Where do u see ur online business in 2-5yrs time
2. Are u ready to stick by the business no matter the challenge u face during the teething period?

If u aren't strong emotionally, going fully into ur business might bring regrets. And once u regret starting a business, it means u are left with zero zeal.

I personally chose business and investment over paid employment cos of my old age.
I will rather keep making money myself than waiting for stipends(pension).

But before u resign from ur job, kindly make sure ur online business is grounded and yielding exellent returns.

Same with me. I was working with a private firm and was earning 62k after tax plus HMO and pension.

Transportation from my house to work is just N120 so in a day I spend N240 on transportation while most time I trek it since it's not far.

I stayed in that job for 2½years but was always complaining and felt wasted.

During this lockdown pay was reduced to 30k and my frustration increased. I checked my skills and the company and didn't see myself earning up to 100k in the next 5years if I stay put with them.

2020 is gone already and in 2021 if at all they will increase pay it could be just 10k increment, 2022 to 2025 the same thing.

I had sleepless nights and after prayers I arrived at a conclusion to quit my job and face my fears.

My family depends on me but I had a meeting with them about my decision and how I intend to let go of the certificate mindset and hustle like a school dropout. They obliged and I resigned.

With my little savings I relocated Faraway to Igando (from Surulere) so I can stay away from the normal lifestyle and hustle knowing fully well that there is no family to support when the hungers comes. Let the hunger be a source of motivation to double my hustle. Let the bills to pay stir up a new fire.

I am looking at my fears and daring it in the face. It will either make me or teach me.

The past two months have been very tough but God has been faithful. Presently the hustle is paying my bills and it's just a matter of time before I settle fully in life.

I have a big dream, my destiny is in my hand and not in the hand of any boss.

I am confident that the testimonies will start pouring in very soon. It's just a matter of time.

I am so determined to face my Goliath and defeat it.

Hi Dare, you did 10 years in FBN? Why didn't you upgrade your OND qualification during the 10 years?? I know tellers who completed their BSC and masters on the job. I know several who got converted and others who moved on to other jobs.
Bro, please try to work on increasing your qualification and improving your communication skills. What you typed up there doesn't show that you did 10 years in a corporate. Continous self improvement is key to success. I am sorry if I sounded rude. See you at the top
