UNN is one of the best schools in Nigeria.

If You are looking for an institution with mordern structures, I don't think UNN or any of it's Campuses, is d best place for it.
..

The kind of structures there, were built in the 50's....when many of us were not even born...
..

The school helps us to know the kind of structures that trended in the early 50's and 60's......
...

it's not the structures that matters, it's the kind of training and education offered there that matters..
...
oga structure too matters, it affects the mental faculty of a student. Go and visit Yale or Oxford now

UNN was built with palm oil money.
Yet allocation from crude oil money cannot sustain it properly. I blame the school authorities who are very myopic and could not follow the dream of Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe to fund that school properly using agricultural proceeds.

They need to learn from Covenant university to see what their entrepreneurial department is doing.

School fees for UNN this year is N70000-77000 per annum. Which in dollar terms translates to less than $200 per annum.

School fees for covenant university is N857,000-N1million.

And you are expecting UNN to look nice on scanty school fees. Compared with Covenant which is charging high fees to begin with.

Let's be honest. Universities are EXPENSIVE. Yes, it was built with palm oil money. Now, how does the school get money to maintain what was built with palm oil money

The money you spend on buying a car is not the same as the money you will spend maintaining it.

Either UNN students pay higher fees, or we take more LOANS.

Unilag students pay 56000-66000naira as fees

Either way, it is still too low,.and you know it.

The fact is, unilag is supposed to be at a higher level than it is, and why it isn't is because of funding issue.

Education is expensive. And to be honest I hate the fact that it is expensive.

When?
That's only for fresh students which is always higher across all levels of education in Nigeria
Subsequent fees is 15k
I won't debate that with you

And you think 15k is enough for a university?

That's $38

That's why we will never have world class universities.

Thats why unilag won't be able to conduct world class research, and why in several years the private universities will surpass the government ones.

Compete with them in terms of what?
1. Infrastructure: The eyesore of a video portrayed as UNN, Enugu campus (hopefully, it's not the main campus) shouldn't be compared to most state schools across the country, not to talk of UNILAG, CU, UI, ABU, FUNAAB or OAU. Please, this is not about tribe so if you're trying to make it so, don't bother replying me. If you need further enlightenment on how UNILAG along beats UNN in terms of stable power, conducive air-conditioned classrooms and libraries, free internet almost everywhere, working CCTV surveillance camera everywhere, maintenance culture and all, please, be my guest.

Academics: Only CU, UI and UNILAG are on top 1000 universities in the world according to reputable THE ranking and only UI make it to the reputable ARWU ranking. If you'll get schooled on the criteria which include student/lecturer ratio, percentage of international students, international outlook and all, be humble to ask. And please, don't bring up a portion of one web metric system which ranks UNN well on citations and badly on other indices. Whatever that is though.

If you have any other ranking index for the dick-measuring contest, state it and you would be disappointed how terribly bad UNN has sunk.

1. UNN has two campuses and what the op posted there is that of Enugu campus..the main c
ampus is in Nsukka. apart from Abu, oau and maybe Ui and I don't think any other university has more structures morethan UNN..

2.ranking unilag above UNN shows that you never left your village before..
https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/286731-three-nigerian-universities-ranked-among-worlds-best.html...it was covenant, Ui and UNN that made it to the world best..

Nigerian universities with the most employable number graduates in Nigeria UNN came second after Covenant University..

Baba, UI fees is a whole lot less than what you have posted, and they have the best facilities maintenance culture amongst federal universities, admit the fewest no. of students and remain far ahead of any other Federal uni. in the Country. They also receive less allocation than UNN. You can look for other excuses, but this isnt one

Structures matter o, but of what use is an 'olodo' in fine building to the society?

No it isn't right. UNN, UI and Unilag, like all Nigerian universities are severely underfunded

That's why they can't compete with other African universities, or on the global stage.

Add the fact that the education budget is less than 3 billion dollars, and you get the picture.

Education is expensive, and God knows I don't like that fact.

So, in the past weeks, i saw a couple of threads showcasing various Nigerian universities in Pictures and i must say i was impressed by most if not all.

I personally visited the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus and i thought that i document it both in pictures and images.

Basically, i just drove around the school and i was most impressed with the vegation and environment but not so much about the structures.

You be the judge.

I wasnt going to comment until you compared UNN with other Unis to make it seem like it is underfunded viz-a-viz other Nigerian Unis. While I agree with the quoted comment, its important for UNN management to introspect particularly regarding how some Unis have been able to utilise relatively low funds to run a more efficient system. I will keep mentioning UI until due recognition is given to that institution. How it has been able to maintain such consistently high standards in spite of meagre funding is nothing short of a "miracle."

The thing is, no University in Nigeria is properly funded.

Education is expensive. Government has to face that fact now, or private universities will surpass government ones in the next decade.

FG will do Nothing.
Private Universities will surely Surpass Government universities.
The Best Universities in the world are private. Infact the best of Most things are private. Though you pay through your Nose, but you will get what you paid for.
Education is Very Expensive.
What the Government does in Nigeria is to Give the poor Masses a Mediocre Education while their children are either in a standard private University in Nigeria or are schooling Abroad.

FG know what to do. Unfortunately, they can't do it because an Average Nigerian cannot Afford it.
