I just want to make an adjustment to a similar post, I think we have different reasonable reasons staying with our parent or in the family compound,I'm 27 and still in our family compound, because my place of work is close to our family house but I need privacy and independent life, should I continue staying there since I don't have to pay rent or am I stressing too much for privacy or independency?

Please what's your own reason staying at your family's residence and your take on my thoughts, thank you!

angry how can I be paying 400k annually for rent?things are getting bad by the day.. So plan very well for a better tomorrow.

I will tell you my story. I stayed with my family I.e siblings and mom in just a shared flat with some other family. That is two families not related by blood or anything sharing a flat.
I was there till I bought my first land and started building and before I knew it i had finish 2 flat. That's where am staying now.

Once I have a place to lay my head l, that money I would use to rent 3 bedroom flats and pay for 2 years, agent fees, etc I will prefer using such to get a land off town where I can use my vehicle to get to town.

Where I stay I got it less than 500k but now is over 3 million now just for land in space of 5 years.

What work for me might not work for others. While others prefer luxury, to me i could adjust for the main time to get what I want.

Today I move from one room to another like say tomorrow nodey.. No landlord wahala. To cap it I recently got another land... Though times 4 the price I got the first one

Stay there and build your life. It should be a platform for easy start so why the rush.

I left my parent house in my twenties but 10 years later I came back there when I moved back to Nigeria. I lived there for another 2 years and moved to my personal house from there.

Please remain their and plan your life. My former colleague picked an apartment in his father's house, got married there, 7 years later he bought a terrace duplex around Abraham Adesanya estate.

Life is a solo race I concur.

was staying in our family house till the age of 30, they didn't deny me anything, and I didn't misuse the opportunity, now am doing better, never fit yourself in a tight situation just because you need freedom, some freedom is captivity in disguise, you just have to persevere, plan, execute your ideas and become better tomorrow.

MY MISTAKES
I rented a room n parlour self contain after my service year, furnished it and I got a fairly used Toyota sienna for hustle.
I was able to achieve the above from the proceeds of my service year as a corper.Let me not forget to say that my family house wasnt far from my rented apartment,it was just a five minutes driving distance.I just needed to do that simply because I prioritize privacy over anything belse.I just wanted my privacy at 28 not even considering the fact that I was yet to have a stable income.
THE CHALLENGES
The bills was just too much for me,my car became problematic, had to fix it,light bill, security bill, fuel etc.To pay the subsequent house rent was difficult,I had to pay in installments.I was stagnant financially n I regretted leaving home.My family house is a 5 bedroom flat appartment. My siblings are all currently in school,my mother works in another state. We have three unoccupied vacant room but I was just driven with the mentality of being alone and independent after service.
SOLUTION;
Considering the problematic situation I was,I decided to go back home n re-stategize.I decided to eradicate those liability I mistook for investment;I sold my car, started a business n even married in my family house at age 30.
ACHIEVEMENT
Within the limited time I went back home,I started my house n now it's already roofed (All to God's glory ).Also I have another side business. All thanks to God n the woman God gave to me.If not for her,I wouldn't have achieved this because if she insists I rent a new apartment,I might have to oblige. But she saw the vision n she keyed into it.All to God's glory.
MY ADVICE:
Pls save, save n save.If your work place is not far from home, pls still stay in your family house n invest.House rent is what make people financially stagnant in life.I do advice,if God gives you the grace to build before marriage, please do.It will give one financial speed in life n make you achieve more.
Note:Some people would advice you to be a man,be independent n be on your own, they would always do that because they don't have the opportunity of working from home.Be wise n gain financial speed in life..Also pray for the right woman oooo
If your woman no gree with you,u fit not make am oooo..shallow!!!

Home is one of the basic necessity in a man's life. I keep saying this.
You don't necessarily have to buy a land in a place that is already open. There are places off town that if bought now in 5 years time it will be open.

Buy, build and speed up your progress in life

They'll regret it too because you'll be a liability to them. They're considering their life and planning to secure their future.

I'm currently in my father's house/family house.

The other flat was given to my aunt when her husband couldn't meet up with d 800k rent in Lagos.

I will be stupid to go and rent a place inside Lagos considering how expensive rent is in Lagos.

My friend recently got a place at Itire in Surulere for 400k, when I went to see him I couldn't believe my eyes, the place looks like what you rent for 50k in Jos.

This Lagos is too expensive. Stay in your family house and plan yourself, any woman who can't settle down with me here should go and build her own house or perhaps find another guy.

Next thing on my mind is starting a big biz, maybe buying a car and saving for my unborn kids future, rent is out of it completely for now.

If ur family house can contain you and your daily routine(work, business, church, etc) is within the city then no need paying rent to someone else when there is a room for you. I will rather use that money to start up a business and grow it till am ready to get married then I can begin to think of moving out for privacy and home building. No go put yourself into unnecessary pressure.
Re: Why Are You Still In Your Family's House? by Nobody: 1:03pm On Jun 28, 2020
There is no big deal in wanting to live alone if it gives you sense of adulthood neither is it if you are still in family house. Na Nigerians just prioritize moving out as soon as you hit 20+ like it's easy.

Don't you ever leave your family house if you deeply know your financial strength isn't enough to start a full life. Save up to a point where you can easily rent a house for three years on a spot.

There is no shame in staying at your family house till everything settles well for you. It is you for you.

People often say your mind won't open until you leave your family house to stay alone. It's all an illusion. Infact having no responsibilities on your salary or business profits due to free family house shelter ND food is such a good platform for your financial growth.

What of those who don't have family house where their work is located or whose family house isn't convenient? To each his own, but staying in family house as an adult has also limited some people and made them entitled.

I wouldn't blame a woman who doesn't want to live in a family house with a man. Some families will drive you crazy. Personally I wouldn't stay in my family house even if it is a gold mansion. I come from a small family who are easy going but I still wouldn't have stayed back after school.

Never ever consider it.
You see I know of someone that married into the family house. They lived well together with the mother because the father is late.
Then the sister in law left her husband to stay together and boom! Fire for fire. No peace in the house again. The wife was considered an out cast they treated her anyhow. She ran away leaving their house for them.
You can consider it though, IF they are a very good family.

Oh! Some men are lazy, they want all for free. Free apartment, no bills to pay, they even want free pussy. They better grow up by leaving their comfort zone where they are being fed and pampered.
