These kind of uni the Catholic school is setting up might not be able to fetch needed development. Cause the uni looks low level to me

Please, where exactly is Gregory University then? I'm asking because someone posted a picture of their teaching hospital being built in Imo state.

All these ones you listed are "proposed", and might not even see the light of the day. That'll mean we have just three "functional" private universities in the state

@you and @Sanctity454, thanks for the correction. I just erroneously believed the uni is in Imo because of that their teaching hospital

Mr/Mrs Clever by Half,

if PRIVATE UNIVERSITY is it for you to usher in development in an area,
why then did Owerri/Mbaise people nearly start a CIVIL WAR each time former govs Udenwa, Ohakim and Okorocha talked about removing Imo state university from Owerri?

Ok, relocate Imopoly, FUTO, IMSU, AIFCE, FERCOLAT from Owerri to Orlu, but establish PRIVATE UNIVERSITIES like Harvard, MIT, Afe Babalola, Convenant Uni, all in Owerri.

If we do that, I bet you that before 10 years, Orlu shall become more modern and more urbanized than your Owerri home area.

He knew what you’ve just explained.

Owerri develops and rapidly expands because of the universities and polytechnics in Owerri. Natives of Owerri sell a plot of land and become too rich overnight. If a student from Orlu spends N1000000 to complete a four year course in a tertiary education institution in Owerri, his counterpart from Owerri zone may spend half of that because of closeness to the institution.

Some smart by half people from Owerri tell Orlu to build private universities to usher in development. Private universities are not subsidized by government. Thus private universities charge a lot higher fees than government university.

Recently, a Prof from Owerri advised gov Uzodinma to open another university very close to Owerri by converting Imopoly Umuagwo to a university of Agriculture.
Primitive greed in a group in Imo state has confined development in the state to only Owerri.

Thanks, someone answered that.

Is Uturu that close to Okigwe for them to have their campuses in different states?

Uturu-Okigwe used to be the name for ages until Abia state was created.
Uturu is very close to Okigwe. Okigwe reaps loads of the economic development benefits of location of the university at Uturu.

Abia state university Uturu used to be called Imo state university Okigwe before Abia state was created and Uturu carved out from Okigwe for Abia state.

Yea, I understood what he meant. However I believe the massive building of hostels and flats around schools is not really the development that should be praised. Many of these off-campus hostels are as a result of poor management in the schools and inadequate hostels in the school premises. Students barbing salons and multiple off-campus hostels are not really the economic and human development that are worthy of praise.

However if you notice, lots of Nigerian private schools manage their industrial sector very well, sometimes better than public Nigerian Universities.
Many of them have bakeries, Table water factories, Plazas, Farms which supply the area.

I will still choose this form of development 100 times before I choose a development characterized by multiple hostels, student barbing salons and betting shops

You overrate the value of Nigerian public universities, if it was back in the days when they usually maintained industries to generate income, I would have agreed immediately, but these days even sachet water is difficult for some public Nigerian tertiary institutions,
I know you want to talk about land, houses , hostels etc. Yes yes yes .. presence of schools caused faster building of houses and estates etc.

But how has that helped the common man who is not a student ?
When these public schools go back to how they were back in the days .. , public universities used to own poultry, fisheries , cow ranches then I would agree with your statement

I even see nothing stopping them from owning other industries maybe in Tech or anything.
Real estate and housing is development, but it's too shortsighted, prices of goods and services keep increasing in S.E cos of inadequate industries..

This is the shortsightedness right here.
You need to understand that our system of government is not allowing public universities to thrive well enough, in the world it's in UK that you would find the best public universities, but Nigeria models after US unfortunately..

MIT, Havard, Stanford Universities are all private ,
Silicon Valley started due to a lot of effort from Stanford university and their staffs/students. Now silicon valley is home to HP, Apple, Google, Facebook etc.

Tell me that isn't good development,

It’s like you confuse Public university with private university.
FYI, Public university is a university owned by government.

All your foresightedness here is about: let Owerri retain all public universities in Imo state, let people of Orlu and rest of Imo state build their own private universities.

When did Nigeria develop to the level of the Uk and the US, Mr foresight?

Do you know that it takes more than 3 tines what it costs to graduate from a public university to graduate from a private university?

Why would you wish people of the same state with you to suffer, while Owerri people enjoy all the dividends of democracy in Imo state?

Abagworo, isn't it better that Okorocha didn't construct a flyover instead of building an elevated deathtrap for Imolites to use?

Flyovers are a mark of unplanned towns, except where used on fast moving roads for change of direction.

But semi-literates in Owerri clamour for flyover in Owerri. They see flyover as mark of big city. They never got bothered by the fact that flood was eating away parts of their state in Orlu due to absence of common urban drainage gutters. Iberiberism.

Nothing is wrong with the bridge, every story about the bridges and tunnels is propaganda. People were brainwashed not to use the tunnels and bridges that they where constructed with ordinary blocks which is a total lie. At least 50 - 65% of roads shown in the video were constructed by sen. Okorocha.

Blueprint?
If we make you governor of Imo state tomorrow and you have a BLUEPRINT of investing about 98% of your development efforts on development of Owerri capital territory, like Okorocha did, you are a big CLOWN in politics. How many votes or support come from Owerri capital territory? Most of the Imolites living in Owerri capital territory look at what development projects done in their LGAs outside Owerri, they don’t care a hoot about your ten lane roads in Owerri capital territory.

Onyeagocha and other Owerri people made Rochas Okorocha an unwanted man in Owerri.

No saner person in Orlu wants to hear Rochas Okorocha considering the way Rochas abandoned or destroyed existing development projects of government in Orlu.
Define political paralyses via a vis Rochas Okorocha politics in Imo state.

You are onto something, bro. No wonder peeps from Orlu always get the nod for the governor of Imo State. Orlu zone has corned all the reasonable urban development in Imo State.

Wow!!! I never heard about this phrase. It used to be Isiukuato\Okigwe. Then there was Ohaozara which houses Uturu. In order to accommodate the aforementioned folks and Afikpo axis, the university was cited at Uturu in Ohaozara.

Ha ha ha. Was Rochas Okorocha asleep when he was building the flyovers and tunnels whereas houses in many parts of Orlu were being washed away by floods due to uncompleted flood control duct started during the administration of Amadi Ikwechegh?

The floods from Orlu move down to Akokwa-Orlu road, usually cut the road in pieces frequently.

How could a man elected as state governor be so vindictive in office, such that he even inflicted injuries to his place of birth as he thought he was undermining Orlu?

The flyovers may never be utilized because the governor who built them used them as an offensive to a large majority of people in Imo state. Rest of the state was rotting away while he was building flyovers and tunnels and inland roads in Owerri as well as roofing Owerri streets.
