Rain has destroyed part the 13-kilometre Nike Lake Junction-Harmony Estate-Amorji Nike- Adoration Pilgrimage Centre –Orie Emene road, newly constructed by Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State. News9naija reports.

Photos and video from the scene obtained by News9naija shows that part of the newly constructed road gave way to the rain as the asphalts were washed away.

The Enugu State Government has since issued statement blaming indiscriminate disposal of refuse and debris in the waterways as the cause the cause of the incident.

However, there are no clear sight of such at the scene as no debris nor refused was washed "ashore" into the road during the carnage. Rather more appalling is the fact that there are no drainage at some sections that witnessed the carnage.

[center]The road was awarded to Testimony Projects Limited[/center]

The road which was flagged off by Gov Ugwanyi in April 2019 was awarded to Testimony Projects Limited, at an undisclosed amount attracted praises to the governor by several influential figures in the state including the likes of Rev. Father Mbaka as it brought a fresh breath to ease traffic along the Abakpa Axis.

The fiery Reverend and Spiritual Director of Adoration Ministry Enugu Nigeria (AMEN), Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, described the road as unprecedented and a miracle. He said “this ultra-modern road built by the Governor of Enugu State, our beloved Gburugburu, before now was a thick forest”, stressing: “There was no road of any kind here before now. The governor started it from the bush clearing to this asphalting level. In fact, this road is a miracle”.

However, barely three weeks after "ultra-modern road built by the Governor of Enugu State" was commissioned, the road is now a death trap to commuters and motorists.

The quality of the road construction is nauseating. Can you imagine the thickness of the asphalt surface layer or the poor compaction of the sub/base course? The Ministry of Works Engineer that supervised this nonsense should be sanctioned immediately.
