In my honest opinion, this is a senseless project for the simple reason that spending that $2.8billion to build just the pipeline would have built the largest Solar farm in the world(2500MW) right in Kano which could probably supply all of the Electricity needs of North West Nigeria.
There is so much sunlight wasting away in the north it’s a no brainer spending that much to build a pipeline to transport gas from the Niger Delta when gas availability is not even guaranteed.


The current largest Solar Power Station in the world is in Pavagada, India @ 2000MW. It cost $2.1b.
With $2.8bn there is no reason not to do something like that with that kind of money.

If you spend $2.8bn to build a pipeline to pump gas all the way up, you still need to build a gas power plant costing same amount, you also need to ensure maximum security of those pipelines over hundreds of kilometers etc.

A solar plant would have made all the sense a million times more.

I guess you did not read the part that said the project would be by BT (Build & Transfer) where the funding will 100% provided by the contractor.

BTW Nigeria was once described as a country floating on Gas with a speck of oil; which sufficiently indicated the relative abundance of untapped natural gas (some of it also in the north, especially the Benue Trough); that could be utilised not just for generation of electricity (as you wrongly concluded) but as well for many other uses, including fuelling of cars & generators (after necessary conversion), cooking and powering of present and future industries.

Note the project is part of a national network covering the whole country; the AKK is the one covering the north; while those covering the south are either completed or in the process of completion.

If you read anything about the Nigeria economic sustainability plan you would know that they want to power over 25 million homes by solar energy by 2023 or 2024 which is almost 5000MW of power, and there is a point in this project because it provides more inter connectivity between all african couturiers which is what we are trying to achieve, and finally 2500MW is not enough to power the whole of north west kaduna alone needs 961MW to power it and that is with 70% connectivity if everyone in Nigeria’s as connected to the grid we would need about 160 000-200 000MW of power depending on consumption.

now I didn't compare Akwa ibom with any northern State, am comparing the standard of living of Akwa ibom with even Kano and you will know what am saying.

Yes we have a few roads and stadiuma and all that but we have a relatively better image.
Yes all the 15 northern states might not be bad but what we are saying is that, Small issue especially religious and before you know they have started killing.

Yes, we just started seeing development 20 years ago compared to Kano and KD that have been there for ages, but we are contributing very well.
Today if you check.most developed states in Nigeria, Akwa Ibom is in the top 5. Most neatest states we are also there, most beautiful statesz we are there. most peaceful states, we are there.
Every nice thing you will say about States in Nigeria, we are there.
So I don't see how any state apart from (Kano cause of it economic development) is better than my state.
Check the ranking done not only by Nigerian organizations but also by non-biased international organizations and you will see us there.

Edo state is almost in the west and even if it wasn't ,you will see that we have about 3 Yoruba own media in Nigeria compare to others...
Edo is in the west to me.
So it means the west controls the media and the headquarters of those media is in Lagos which is in the west.

That means, the Lagos State govt indirectly controls them
