UI is a stressful school.

Countless TDB's. . .

No tangible regret though.

Why do Nigerians call universities, school? I know Americans do (Trump loves the poorly uneducated grin grin grin), but that's not the English/British legacy. Is it?

My school days was bliss! I was the life of every social activities back then in Malabor Republic. I had the words of one very great writer in mind, 'Colleges and Universities are not education itself but a MEANS to education'. The social and rugged life i led in school gave me all the education i needed. Nope no regrets.
malabite!..

I wondered too o. Which Nigerian lecturer will tell a group of JJCs that school isn't all about studying... cheesy

From my experience though, nigerian lecturers would make school look like that's the only reason God made heaven and earth

Both ain't worth it.
But rather be social than torment your mind in studying a course where your you have no intellectual curiosity.

I was everything doing my university days- A kegite member, a viking, an evangelical born-again Christian, and finally a philosopher.

I passed through all the phases very well and it made me a quiet responsible man I am today. The experience is worth more than every academic knowledge I acquired. I can always see through the drives of young men having gone through those phases.

N:B- I ran away and gained admission in another school after joining vikings confrat. The thievery, violence and ruggedity of the confrat was much. I was only seeking class and not violence or extortion.

My advice to any young man in school is to start a small business as early as possible, manage it well and be financially responsible.

We will all end up as a business owner either as a retiree or entrepreneur. Learn financial education early and embrace means of self-sustainability.

Education or grade is no longer a guarantee of a good life here.

I wish I knew this early.

Dear Good people of Nairaland, please kindly take a minute to read

Earlier this year I got an admission offer from a school in US but my application could not be evaluated for funding due to late submission. I had to differ the offer till next year and will have to submit GRE score that was initially waived because of the pandemic to be evaluated for funding. I was told if i could write the GRE and score very high coupled with my good academic background I'm sure going to get the funding. I already saved about 50k for the exam until I was told I'll be needing an International passport for the registration. I inquired about the cost of doing that which was 17800 on getting to immigration I spent nothing less than 40k to get the passport done. Now I'm back to square one and already running out of time. I was told if I didn't register for the exam on time I might not be schedule for this year due to limited centers. Please come to my aid and support my ambition.

Hello,

Don't be misguided, some "Nigerian undergraduate relationships" are very much beneficial to both parties academically, emotionally, financially, and in the path where they acquire relationship maturity and wisdom.

Certainly, not ALL Nigerian undergraduate relationships are shallow. At least, mine is not and that alone faults your assertion.

Oshey!!! Symbiotic relationship! grin

I never met an undergraduate (or anyone for that matter) who thought the relationship they are/were in isn't/wasn't beneficial. It is AFTER THEY'VE LEFT the relationship that they get different (not necessarily correct) perspective.

NB: Please this is not to say you are not in a beneficial relationship. No way I can know that, or even you now. Not until we see how it turns out. Please keep us posted. I'm rooting for you mate wink

So I ran into an old school mate of mine sometime last week, she was my roomie, very reserved and bookish.

While I and my friends / other roomies were very social and went to the occasional club parties, she was always indoors with her books and well, I guess it paid off cuz she graduated with a 2.1 while we struggled with 2.2.

Back to when I saw her, after exchanging pleasantries we reminisced about school days and I was shocked to hear her say she envied my days in school, like she wished she lived a more social life, I was so surprised I on the other hand wished I was serious and concentrated more on my studies, maybe just maybe I would have graduated with a better grade.

We both laughed at the irony of it all and this made me wonder ; do we all wish we did things differently in the university when we look back?

There is no how in double hell i would have made first class in the law faculty of my school. So i had all the fun i could and left with 2.1. No single regret. To God be all the glory.

All through Uni, my dad's advice kept re-echoing in my head - "My son, do everything (good and bad) your mates are doing but don't be caught at it or be a victim - Never soil your hands with human blood and never force yourself on a lady". With that in mind, I did ALL other things guys were doing.
Glad that i still left with 2.1 in a very Professional Course.
I past through Uni; Uni equally past through me!
No Single Regrets! I had much fun.

One thing I also regret is not being manipulative and persuasive, I lose interest easily and it really affected some parts of my life
Same here. I just lose interest easily. I find it hard to just try and convince someone for anything.

am in my final year, and this relates to me a lot.

the young age but older look and attracting older girls............

Please it will only end in premium tears, am telling you the earlier you leave person wife the better for you, funny thing is she would still send you invitation letter! grin grin

High school is a great time to be alive and in love ... You have few cares except making good grades—and making your bed in the morning. Probably, your parents are still paying for your shelter, and you’re not embroiled in the rough, hard real world of adulting.. because my brother adulthood is a bigSCAM!
Search diligently for a young girl now be4 it's too late, you still have a year to go, because if you do !

Mutual understanding and open communication would be guaranteed thus you can skip the first few years of getting to know your life partner better, you can be yourself and dont need to impress her and there will be no need to feel insecure.

You are saved from the risks of marrying a person u don’t know. For instance, if she didn't disclose that she had an ex boy friend...some exs always come back to hunt even after marriage!

You will have other mutual friends, which is very good for the future.

I don't think you reserve the right to tell me if I am in right frame of mind or position to assume the usefulness or the absence of it in my relationship. You can go on to stand firm on it but it's all in your head and I won't let it drain into mine.

More so, I am over 20; an adult who knows his rights and what are beneficial to him. In my wisdom and experience, I certainly know what is useful to me and when to pull the plug if the benefits expire.

Furthermore, your assertion that post-graduation outcome decides whether a relationship was worthwhile or beneficial while it lasted, at best can be said to be wrong.

In a scenario whereby family disagreements is the root of a break-up which was headed for marriage, does that severe all the academic benefits you enjoyed while at school? Does it take away the emotional stability you enjoyed while it lasted? The fidelity your partner helped you build and strengthen as a virtue became worthless? The crucial words of advice?

These things to me are irreplaceable and whatever tragic that happens after graduation, won't make the relationship worthless or non-beneficial while it lasted.

Me I regret joining bad gang in year 2 and was always partying and drinking and carrying women . Made me go astray and graduate with a 2.1 .

I was on a perfect 5.0 heading for a first class but I messed up and scattered everything

I regret a lot, when I was in school I had a lot of time and money, but did not learn any new skill or invest my money, although I am doing well, but I still wished I was wiser when I was younger

Yep. I was so reserved and not social. I regret not being social and just always indoors.
I pray I can let go of the ( introverted and anti-social) aforementioned traits , I hope I can change before graduating.

Yes I do have regrets from my days in the university.

However, it was a shameful regret and not one i would share on a public forum. Everyday I hit my head on a mirror and wonder what went wrong with me on the day I took that decision.
Please share. You never can tell who might learn from it pls
