ProfAmaben:I understand you clearly. How did you come about such statistics, do you have any reference? You should know better than just making up stats. You see why I say it's prejudice? Is every one a criminal that wears a tattoo? Do you have the numbers or are you recalling from your experience? You experience is not an objective picture of the world or Nigeria for that matter. What happens to those who have turned a new leaf, are they damned for life? What happens to the Presumption of Innocence, should we throw that out the window too? My problem is that people act like it's normal and even give "tips" on how to "stay safe". It's all band-aids and whitewashing, because you haven't been affected today doesn't mean your safe. I've never been harassed by SARS or FSARS but I do not claim that my appearance or status has been my saving grace. The only time I came close to being harassed by a police officer was when I was stopped at a checkpoint on my way home. I stood up to this guy because I had nothing to be afraid off, he expected me to cower and bribe him. My papers were intact and there was no reason for him keeping me there. He threatened to shoot, I dared him to. He then threatened to take me to their station, I told him I wasn't going anywhere and he had no right to force me. When a bystanders intervened, I heard him make side remarks -- "see this small boy, you think say I no get car...". The only reason I refrained from engaging him further was because I could perceive the strong smell of alcohol on him and I had kids in the car. I've never begged or bribed any uniformed agent. I know my rights -- even if I'm wrong, you can't harass me. You have no right, not on God's green earth. And if I have to die protecting that right, it's better than living like a coward. |

Miyachi:Good, but when are we going to be free of molestation. |

proudevil:Quite agreed, that is a wrong approach. But his response is a direct fall out of the violence being perpetrated by some of these Gov't outfits against innocent Nigerians daily. Nigerians need to take a hard look at Nigeria, and stand up to rescue their country. No other ambition is more worthwhile at this point. |

ProfAmaben:oga prof, with all due respecr, you have an underlying prejudice towards people with dreads and tattoos. you are just using fine english to cover it up. beat your chest and say it... you dont like tattoos and dreads, and stop saying its the clean one or the okotomeow skrr that you are yarning waaaaaaaaah. You are profiling without even knowing it. maybe you do, but hey, who cares? Doubling down on the same thing despite differing views shows where you lie on the matter. please refrain from commenting on the issue abeg. you are one of the reasons those animals justify what they do to young people |

mctfopt:I think they might be benefiting from it too. Coz if it is not that they are under a spell, they should have found a way to solve the police menace all these years. I'm very sure they all know the solution to all this, just that they don't have the political will to proceed with it. |

Whenever i see threads such and this and answers provided by people, i'm even more convinced that Nigerians do not know what their problems are. SARS is not a problem just like PDP or APC are not problems. The problem of NIgeria is Nigerians themselves. Whether SARS is disbanded, the regular police or just about any agency will take up from where they stopped as long as they have some kind of powers. Before SARS, police has always harassed people. Same with the military and even traffic agencies such as FRSC, KIA and LASTMA. They've been known to harass and demand for bribes from people. The lack of morality on the part of Nigerians is the reason for all this. |
