If he wants to work in a the field of science, SLT is better..... there isn’t much hope for biochemistry at the moment as we don’t have to many research institutions that needs biochemist...
But as a SLT is more versatile, they can work in hospital, NGOs, even oil companies ...besides biochemistry is a lot harder....

However if he just wants to get his degree, he can do any one .... he should just make sure he gets a good grade like a first class that can attract scholarships abroad or jobs in any place in Nigeria..I have friends who did SLT but they are head of operations in banks now...so the choice is in his hands...

He should go for Engineering. Forget those science courses, except for med surg.
All those science courses are not professional. You hardly get jobs and you can't stand on your own.
A civil/building engineer will easily get a job in a construction company or better still start building for people.
A mechanical engineer can have his side shop and fix machines and even get jobs in engineering firms or oil and gas.
It's only chemical engineers that struggle to get jobs.

It's when you enter the labour market that you will understand.

But since he's into sciences and switching to Engineering will be difficult, he should do med lab, instead of Science Lab.

Greetings everyone

I have a cousin who is currently a 100level student studying SLT in UNIBEN, he has asked me several times if he should transfer to department of biochemistry.
Personally I don't have much to tell him about the courses because I'm an engineering student and I have little knowledge about life science courses.

Please guys which course would you advise him to go for?

No.
SLT is offered both in the university and polytechnic.
It is Under Faculty of Sciences.

MLS is offered only in the University.
It is under College of Medicine/Health sciences.

As for the OP's brother,He should Continue with SLT.
SLT is not bad at all,They are professionals that are Licenced.
If he is so interested in Chemistry Let him specialize in Bio/Chemistry under SLT.

Biochemistry is not worth it at all. Except he will continue to Postgraduate Sha....
