I'm Officially Retiring From Tribalism... by Bobonnukwu: 6:14pm On Jul 07, 2020
For those that care to listen, I'm officially announcing my retirement from tribalism and bigotry henceforth. Not only is it draining, pointless and toxic to my well being and self-growth, it has ended up tilting towards a more paradoxical twist in recent events in my life.

I've fallen in love with a Yoruba girl, met her at in my last semester of pharmacy school here in Texas, and e be like say na this girl I go marry... her parents absolutely love me and call me "Omo Ibadan", I was born in Ibadan. Sad thing is I wasn't born with hate, all my closest friends, neighbors, childhood besties etc back in Ibadan were Yorubas and they loved and accepted me like no other. My dad met Tai Solarin before he passed away and he motivated my dad to be a better man till his last days. For those who know the owner of Exide battery in Ibadan... he was my dad's closest friend. I'm still in contact with his family members till today.

Nairaland taught me hate and I can't make excuses for how pathetic I allowed myself to be misled by the hate that exists here.

This girl has been my light through my darkest moments in life, even when man no hold shingbain, she has been supportive and understanding through those tough college years... I'll say no more than this but I've found my peace and I'll protect that girl like a Queen that she is.

F**k tribalism, it can kick rocks! I'm done with Nairaland and it's toxicity for good. I wish you all ALL the best in your endeavors.

I'm out!

Some people don’t know how lost they are based on tribal bigotry. Fight your crooked politicians, don’t fight one another

Nigeria is entrench in tribalism; but it's the bigotry that kills.

Only the very smart people are able to compartmentalize.

Anyone who calls the tribalism and bigotry that happen on Nairaland mere jokes is deceiving himself/herself.

I have friends who stopped visiting Nairaland because they want to remain sane.

Tribalism and bigotry are evil

People should stop it

Before religion, tribe and party, we are humans first

Yoruba ladies know how to stick with men. Its just that their men are mostly womanizers..

Yoruba women are humble are hardworking.

Go round yorubaland, you see the uneducated ones trekking long distance, hawking goods just to feed their children and even husbands.

They're different from the women of other southern tribes. The closest to them are the urhobo women.

I was shocked too when I got to NL. My grandpa had a house in Ladipo with half of the tenant being Igbos. I grew up not knowing any difference btw us. I know for a fact it is definitely not Lagos Igbos that disparage Yoruba but those fools PDP raised to insult every other tribe from alaigbo n they have limited knowledge about Yorubas. Most Yoruba will not watch injustice meted on you single on the basis of tribe n that is why the likes of FFK George n Co still reason along with Igbos but I know for a fact they are mistaken.

You are very very wrong. Yoruba will never do that. Have you not been reading what other people have written above? Anyone who choose to hate does it on his own volition. I have been a friend to many ibo as far back as 1970s when I did not know even know the difference. They came to our village and we hired them to work on our farm. We lived together and ate together under the same roof. No fear, no acrimony. You need to change your mind.
