NABDA COVID-19 Test Kit: Nigeria Develops, Launches COVID-19 Test Kit by Islie(op): 12:01pm On Jul 09, 2020

The Federal Government of Nigeria, on Thursday, launched a diagnostic kit, RNASwift, for the identification of coronavirus’ causal agent.

The new diagnostic kit was designed, developed and validated by Nigerian scientists. It holds huge potentials for the country’s plan at scaling up testing for COVID-19, the acting Director-General of National Biotechnology Development Agency (NABDA), Prof Alex Akpa, whose agency produced the kit, said at the launch in Abuja on Thursday.

“The diagnostic kit is a product of cutting-edge biotechnology, which involves the exploitation of molecular biology to design, develop and validate a cost-effective but yet very top-of-the-range kit for COVID-19 testing”, Prof Akpa said.

This is certainly something good and encouraging coming from the Nigerian scientist, cause a lot thought we couldn't developed something of this magnitude since Nigerians generally have the scepticism to anything developed by themselves.
At least now we could get access to a cheaper option in testing thereby increasing the testing rate and you know trying to get a better and more realistic figure of the amount of the Covid 19 cases we have in the country.

They don't want to waste money on foriegn stuff again. Their time is running out, So they prefer to show us how serious they are and looted behind the scenes.

There is always effective and wonderful scientists in this country. But government are not ready to support them.
